“The Importance of the Unlearning” – Cathy Dimarchos Interview

View descriptionShare

I love what I do because it brings me into contact with people like Cathy. She is a force of nature – an indefatigable force for good and accountability in the world, someone who has goals of sustainability and equity always in the forefront of her mind.

In this hour or so of our conversation, we talk about how she founded her own business, Solutions 2 You, when many others are figuring out how to retire. She shares about her time in Africa and how her experiences there taught her that even the smallest interaction can change a person’s life forever. When she came back, she wanted to use her background in the business world to make a measurable difference.

Our conversation is about how to create a business that makes change, but it is also about spirituality, service, resiliency, and accountability.

It filled my cup and I hope it fills yours.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

- look for the joy in the very small things. You don’t need a certain accomplishment or dollar amount to be happy.

  • Look for the ways you can be of service to someone else, every day.
  • You will make mistakes every day and you can learn something new every day. Don’t hold yourself back from taking those lessons, wherever you may find them. It may come from someone older, or someone younger.
  • If you are completely present in the moment, each action you take will be the right one.

BEST MOMENTS

  • “Almost everything I do comes back to: ‘is this going to get me closer to where I need to be or is it detracting from what that end goal is.’ That’s the question I ask constantly, together ‘what else’.”
  • “It’s all about acceptance and understanding we all have biases…but it’s to catch ourselves in those moments, to be present for who I’m with. Honoring you and understanding what you’re willing to share with me, but not necessarily having to agree with you.”
  • “I continuously look back and check in on myself, to make sure that I don’t actually follow the same sort of patterns, to be more aware, to really listen in.”
  • Sustainability is a key part – which is why it’s so important to know what it is you’re wanting to achieve. If you don’t know that, it’s a perpetual hamster wheel….’yes, I’ve received that monetary amount, now what?’”
