Briana is a coach, nutritionist and speaker. After years of struggling with her own self-esteem, Briana wanted to help other women with emotional and binge eating issues.

She talks to Pete today about her own journey to healing, how she managed to overcome her own trauma and difficulties and how her life purpose is to help others.

 KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Fire in the belly to Briana, is the thing that gets you up in the morning, the thing you feel compelled to do.
  • Briana becomes the coach her clients need first, she then works with them to meet their goals and needs.
  • For years, Briana struggled with her relationship with food and her body image. Like many women she had insecurities and was either battling with restrictive eating or binge eating.
  • If you have created the habit to use food to solve our emotions, you can become confused with what feels like ‘cravings’ but is actually disordered eating.
  • You need to develop self-worth that isn’t tied to food, how you eat or your body. You then need to learn how to deal with your emotions without food.
  • It was after losing a lot of weight, something Briana believed would bring her peace and happiness, that she realised that weight had nothing to do with how she felt about herself. It was time to try something different.
  • Socially women have been conditioned by diet culture, which makes their relationships with food frequently difficult and complicated.
  • Trauma doesn’t have to be ‘big’. Often smaller situations and trauma create these unhealthy eating habits, because we have learnt to deal with our emotions via food.
  • Journaling is one of the tools Briana used to change her mindset and thinking around food.
  • Personal development and self-improvement was always something Briana had been interested in, it was when she got her own coach that she really started to understand the power of working with someone else on your development.
