MSNOW's Lawrence O'Donnell describes the midterms as a potentially historic break in the political map, arguing that Republicans are now paying the price for Donald Trump’s inability to appeal beyond his base and for a party that has failed to speak to independents and Democrats, with Susan Collins offered as a rare exception because she has tried to talk to a broader electorate. He says the first Senate vote matters most because it determines control of the chamber and its committees, which in turn affects Supreme Court appointments, and he points to Trump-era corruption and incompetence as examples of what voters may reject. Reflecting on the 1994 midterms, he recalls how unexpectedly Democrats lost both the House and Senate and how that election permanently changed Bill Clinton’s governing style, while arguing that if Trump loses this cycle he is unlikely to respond in the same conciliatory way. MS NOW launched its MS NOW Membership. It is now available for download in the App Store, on Google Play, and online at ms.now.
