The Latino Vote Podcast's Mike Madrid joins host Molly Jong-Fast to explain why Latino voters have become the nation's biggest swing bloc, capable of shifting 20 to 25 points, and why Democrats may only be "renting" their support this midterm. He argues that economics drove Latinos away from Democrats, but aggressive ICE enforcement, which has affected an estimated one in four Latinos, is now fueling an unprecedented turnout surge, especially among young, U.S.-born voters from mixed-status households. Pointing to triple-digit increases over 2022, he notes that more than half of Texas's 4.5 million early voters reportedly have no prior vote history, with similar spikes in Nevada, Florida, and Georgia. Madrid predicts South Texas candidate Bobby Pulido could beat Monica De La Cruz by double digits and explores the rise of a non-ideological, anti-establishment Latino populism that fits neither red nor blue silos and favors border security paired with a pathway to citizenship. He also weighs in on Ruben Gallego's appeal and expects Democrats to win the House and reach about 52 Senate seats, then closes by arguing that the party's future lies in Sun Belt states powered by Latino blue-collar workers, not in trying to win back Rust Belt voters.
