She says the book shows how the administration repeatedly pushes extreme ideas, like the Insurrection Act or suspending habeas corpus, as “loaded weapons on the shelf,” while also noting there is no reporting that such a move is being discussed for Election Day. On the midterms, she argues Trump tends to keep pushing until he can’t, but he appears more focused on legacy, power, money, and attention than on another term, and she believes he doesn’t fully process what the next two years will look like.
