Fred Wellman is running for Congress in Missouri’s 2nd District on a message of change, accountability, and pragmatism, saying he’s built a broad coalition of labor unions, suburban and rural voters, and newer immigrant communities in a district that’s become more diverse and frustrated with incumbent Ann Wagner’s lack of town halls, debates, and constituent engagement. He says the race is in a dead heat, with strong fundraising and early-vote energy, and that the biggest issues he hears are cost, corruption, and chaos—especially the affordability crisis, access to health care, and fears about the future for kids and small businesses. Wellman, a West Point graduate, Army veteran, former aviator, and veterans advocate who also ran a small business, presents himself as a “day one Democrat” focused on getting practical results like banning stock and crypto trading in Congress, restoring ACA subsidies, and working across the aisle to help people in the district.
