607 - Peter Gabriel! Chic! Greg Keelor of Blue Rodeo!

View descriptionShare

In one of the best interviews from our archives, we have a chat with Peter Gabriel from 1986, as he talks about “So”, which is about to become the biggest album of his career. Peter also talks about his work with Amnesty International and how he feels about “charity fatigue”. Gabriel also fights back at the notion that he has sold out just because “So” is a success. He also discusses the myriad of reasons behind his split with Genesis and the painstaking work behind the classic “Sledgehammer” video. It’s a wide ranging and captivating interview.

A hidden gem from our collection is a 1979 interview with Chic, from the peak of their popularity. Bassist Bernard Edwards, whose work has influenced a generation of musicians, talks about the early days of Chic, teaming up with Nile Rodgers, playing to Canadian audiences and writing “Le Freak”. He also talks optimistically about the future of disco music in a way that makes you sad that it all came crashing down just a few months later.

And finally, we have a lively chat with Greg Keelor, co-founder of the legendary Canadian band Blue Rodeo. Greg talks about the trauma and joy that inspired his new album “Share The Love”. He also addresses how severe hearing problems almost ended his career. Greg explains why Blue Rodeo will NEVER surpass Gordon Lightfoot’s record at one venerable Canadian concert hall.  And at the end, Greg hilariously describes what “doing my job” really means.
