LGBTQ Community Face Health Insurance Discrimination

View descriptionShare

63 percent of LGBTQ people planning families expect to use assisted reproductive technology, foster care or adoption to become parents. Yet insurers that do cover assisted reproduction, including in vitro fertilization (IVF), often have requirements that discriminate against the LGBTQ community.

Board-certified OB/GYN and fertility specialist Dr. Mark Trolice regularly advocates on Capitol Hill for non-discriminatory infertility insurance coverage.

Dr. Trolice describes how Gay men, who have only one option to start a biological family, are especially affected by discriminatory insurance companies and the current medical definition of infertility.
