Feeding Kids During The Summer

View descriptionShare

Hunger and food insecurity is a critical problem that gets much worse in the summer months when millions of kids who rely on free and reduced cost lunch plans face an increased risk of going hungry.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture states that more than 22 million kids receive free or reduced cost lunch during the school year, yet only 3.8 million kids have access during the summer.

Stacey McDaniel, Child Nutrition Advocate and Anti-Hunger Initiatives specialist for the Y-M-C-A explains what the YMCA is doing to help feed these hungry teens and kids during the summer.
