Concerns Over Bail Reform

View descriptionShare

Bail reform has become a popular social justice cause in recent years. However, twenty-seven top researchers from Harvard, Princeton, MIT, Columbia, NYU and UC Berkeley jointly issued a scathing criticism of pretrial risk assessments tools which use an algorithms key to determine which offenders are eligible for bail.

Jeffrey Clayton, Executive Director of the American Bail Coalition, a trade organization committed to developing the most efficient means for the pretrial release of criminal defendants, came on the program to discuss the latest developments with bail reform.

Clayton explained how the 27 researchers sent individual letters to three specific jurisdictions all in reference to the pending Senate Bill 10 which would essentially abolish cash bail and replace it with pretrial risk assessment.
