"Do not let evil get the best of you. Get the best of evil by doing good."
Romans 12:21

What happens when someone hurts you?

Do you respond like them... or like Jesus?

In today's episode of Everyday Joy, Ash and Shaylee unpack one of the most challenging instructions in the Bible: overcoming evil with good.

Together, they discuss how easy it is to allow other people's actions to dictate our reactions. When someone gossips about us, we're tempted to gossip back. When someone is rude, we want to be rude in return. When we've been hurt, we often feel justified in hurting others.

But Paul's challenge is clear:

Don't let evil change you.

Ash and Shaylee explore what it looks like to remain kind when others are unkind, to choose grace over retaliation, and to refuse to let disappointment, anger, or bitterness shape your character.

Shaylee also shares a personal story about receiving a hurtful comment online and the temptation to respond, while reflecting on the power of responding with kindness instead of revenge.

This episode is a powerful reminder that overcoming evil doesn't mean pretending wrong things are okay. It means refusing to let someone else's actions pull you away from the person God has called you to be.

If you've been hurt, criticised, disappointed, or frustrated by someone else's behaviour, this conversation will challenge and encourage you to choose the better way.

Because one of the greatest victories isn't getting even.

It's refusing to become what hurt you.
