The National Assembly (NA/Parliament) has taken a significant step by adopting a transformational amendment to its rules and guidelines for petitions. According to the country's highest legislative body, these regulations have been introduced to foster more open, transparent and responsive legislative processes. Previously, public petitions required an MP to act as an intermediary between the House and a member of the public. This decision has been as a progressive by parliament. The questions remains on how this will work, seeing that we had the Public Protector’s office and the National Council of Provinces where citizens could be able to voice that grievances. What happens to the other institutions? Will people still be able to access them? How will the process work? Political Analysis: Now ordinary citizens can approach Parliament directly

Our South African doing great things we talk to the  founder and MD of Mayine Development Institute, a Pan-African private company, Nomveliso Mbanga. Novemliso is passionate about youth development. She’s a teencoach, who assists teenage boys and girls that she hosts, as well as mentor them about the emotional and mental well-being of teenagers. Growing up in Transkei at the height of apartheid, her father introduced her to developmental work at age 10 where she was able to work directly with families in her community. She has 28 years of experience in this sector and in 2015 she left corporate work and created her own company “Mayine Development institute”. She owns the trademarked concept called Teencoaching that specifically focuses on the developmental challenges of the African child within the African context. She is considered an expert in her field with most of her young people now graduates in the top 5 universities of South Africa. She is also the go-to person on all challenges experienced by boy preteens, teenagers, young adults and families.

As May is Africa Month, the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (Contralesa) and popular beer brand Castle Milk Stout are pressing ahead to have May 8 declared as National Ancestors’ Day on the national calendar. Contralesa and Castle Milkstout have launched an online petition on the company’s website, which has been running since 2021. Contralesa said it was making a humble appeal to South Africans to support the motion of the Ancestors’ Day campaign. Zolani Mkiva, secretary-general of Contralesa, said ancestors are the unshakable foundation upon which we build our present and future. “Recognising and honouring their enduring wisdom, guidance, and sacrifices is a profoundly unifying sentiment shared by all Africans,” said Mkiva and he Joins us this evening to talk about the significance of having Ancestors day.
