In our political analysis we talk to Dr Harlan Cloete, a research fellow in the Department of Public Administration and Management at the University of the Free State, who wrote an interesting opinion piece titled “Coalition Governance in South Africa: Current Realities and Desired Futures” in other words ‘Can coalition government be the answer that South Africa are looking for in our next elections?’. Dr Cloete writes “If we think a coalition government is the answer, we are making a big mistake. Such a government may even be more complex given the different egos demanding to be fed. Rather a Citizen Coalition (social solidarity) is needed, where citizens lead and the government follows. Unless we make that transition in our heads, we will forever be at the mercy of politicians trapped in a system that rewards only them.“ Definitely food for thought and Dr Cloete joins us this evening to discuss his opinion piece.
