Chronic kidney disease (CKD),is a gradual and serious loss of kidney function (kidney failure), that affects up to one in eight South Africans. More impotant is that worldwide it had resulted in over 3.1 million deaths (2019). If left untreated kidney failure can be life threatening. At the moment the kidney disease ranks as the 8th leading cause of death, and it is projected to be the 5th leading cause of life lost by 2040. The Urology Hospital in Pretoria, is presently offering free kidney health screenings to the public on the 14th and 15th of March 2024 and to tell us more about the chronic Kidney Disease and the free screening we’re joined by Dr Fikile Tsela, Nephrologist at Urology Hospital in PTA.
