The last week of August holds great significance for traditional healers and herbalists across South Africa and the continent as we observe African Traditional Medicine Week. From August 26th to 31st, Africa recognizes the crucial role traditional medicine plays in providing accessible and affordable healthcare, along with its valuable contribution to global health. Remarkably, around 80% of Africa’s population depends on traditional medicine for their basic health needs. Tonight on Medical matters, we will be joined by Prof Nceba to explore themes around how traditional medicine is used in the modern world, challenges facing traditional medicine, e.g. commercialisation of this, we can look at how to preserve indigenous knowledge when it comes to creating the herbs, any collaborations between “modern” medicine and traditional medicine.
