KwaNtu Feature: National Literacy Month focusing on children’s literacy.

View descriptionShare

September is National Literacy Month, and on tonight’s episode of Kwantu, we’re shining a spotlight on children’s books. A 2021 study by Progress in International Reading Literacy revealed that illiteracy among South African children increased from 78% in 2016 to 81%. With books readily available, what’s causing this issue? Is it time for parents to be more intentional about making reading a habit at home? And how often are children’s books actually purchased by consumers? To help us unpack these questions and discuss her own children’s books, we’re joined by award-winning author, Kagiso Molete.
