The transformation of education begins with teachers. According to School-days, a fundraising programme, more than half of the current teacher population is over the age of 55 and will soon be heading for retirement. In addition to that, is the shortage of maths, science and technology specialists, which is where student teachers can come in. We will be joined by Wynand van Heerden, co-owner of the Edify extra-lesson schools to discuss how student teachers as teaching assistants can influence SA’s education system for the better.
