This month's featured resource: Praying the Bible
Well. Hey there friends, welcome to another exciting edition of equip with Chris Brooks! I'm so thrilled that you've joined us today. Do me a favor strap on your seat belt as we navigate through the contours of culture, as always with the lens of the biblical worldview on. But before we do that, let me remind you, this is the day that the Lord has made. He is giving it as a gift so that you and I can rejoice and be glad in it. So let's do just that. Let's follow the words of the Apostle Paul. Let's rejoice in the Lord always. And again I say, rejoice. Today I want you to help me welcome my good friend Roy Patterson to the host seat. Roy is a man of God who has ministered through radio and the pastorate for decades. He's the host and originator of the Urban Praise streaming channel, and also host Celebration of Praise and Music for Sunday here on Moody Radio. Roy, thank you for leading this edition of equip.
Chris Brooks is one of my favorite people on the planet. So grateful for his heart, for God, and praying for him and for his daughter, for Jody, his wife, and the whole family. And just knowing that God is able to keep us and to be our refuge and our strength. Hey, welcome to equip. Thank you so much for hanging out with me. Uh, we've got a tremendous show today. You have an opportunity to hear from one of my favorite sisters in the Lord. Her name is Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth. She is the founder and lead Bible teacher for Revive Our Hearts, a ministry dedicated to calling women to freedom to fullness and fruitfulness in Christ. Nancy's love for Christ and passion for His Word are evident through her writings, her conference outreaches, and her two daily audio teachings Revive our Hearts and Seeking Him. Her books have sold millions of copies and are reaching the hearts of women around the world. Nancy and her husband, Robert. They live in Michigan. Nancy, how are you?
I'm doing just fine. Roy. So good to hear your voice. And I have to say, when I heard Chris at the top and I knew you were guest hosting today, and I thought, that voice sounds a lot like Chris. I know. And in fact, it was. But it's good to hear yours and his.
Well thank you. And some people think we're vocal twins. We've got a running joke going that I'm him and he is me, but in reality, he is uniquely who he is. And he's a wonderful man of God. Hey, I want to dive right in. I've been listening to you for years, and I know the program has been designed with women in mind, but I've been so edified, so encouraged by the teaching. Tell me about your journey. How did you come to Christ?
Oh, well, I'm so grateful. Thankful, blessed to have been born into a family with parents who were first generation believers. They had come to know Christ as young adults and were hot hearted for the Lord, and within the first five years of their marriage, they had six children and and were just devoted to bringing us up in the ways and the word of the Lord. So that was the the water in which we swam, and just making sure that we were in gospel preaching churches and being formed and shaped in the word. So my first conscious memory, Roy, is when I was four years old, I was by myself in my bedroom, in our home and giving my life to Christ. I didn't know any big theological terms and couldn't explain some of the things that maybe I could explain today, although it's still such a mystery and amazing grace. But I knew that I needed a Savior, and I knew that I wanted whoever and all of who Christ was to have all of me and turned my life to him. And the the evidence of that in those next few years was just so sweet. As the Lord was drawing my heart to himself, I knew within, I don't know, probably by the time I was 7 or 8 years old that the Lord had set me apart to serve him. I didn't know what that would look like or what that would mean, but just that I wanted. I knew I was his and I wanted to serve him. And so growing up in that environment, not a sinless home by any means, but of of parents who were intentional about about being in the word and the ways of God themselves, loving Christ, serving people, winning people to Jesus. So growing up in that and having so many wonderful opportunities to choose to follow Christ have asked, as he had chosen me, to be his first. And it's been a journey I'm now in, approaching my late 60s, and I look back and I think say, thank you, Lord, I don't deserve any of this, but the joy of knowing and belonging to him and now serving him for all these years, it's it's precious. I'm so, so thankful.
I'm so thankful for you. It sounds like the word was core to your family. Is that where you really started getting into the word and letting the word get in you based on what you saw in your family?
Absolutely. And I'll tell you, the the one of my early memories is my dad in particular. Ours was a very busy household. He was a businessman, and he traveled quite a bit. And, um, he was starting a business at the time, and he and my mom had a lot of ministry going on in our home. And, um, we were active in church, so, so many things going on. But I remember this habit of my dad's. My dad has been with the Lord since 1979. Okay. So on my 21st birthday, he was suddenly taken home to be with the Lord. But in those that whole growing up experience of my life, I remember my dad starting every single day of his life from the time he came to know Jesus at age 28, until the day he went home to be with the Lord. Um, he was in God's Word every single day in the Bible reading he had. He was very, um, routine oriented. He would read two chapters from the Old Testament, one from the new five Psalms, one proverb. So he would go through Psalms and Proverbs every month. And and then he he would be on his knees praying. And Roy, I don't know how many kneeling pads think of like.
Wow.
A wedding, you know? Um, but he had one just tucked under his bed. And how many of those he wore out over the years praying through a long, long list of people that he was burdened for, people he wanted to see come to know the Lord. And of course, I wasn't in those times with him. That was his private time with the Lord. But we kids knew that before we were up and into our day, he was up and into his day seeking the Lord no matter what else, no matter what kind of meetings he had, no matter where he had to go. And because he was so committed to that, it meant he was very intentional about getting to bed at a decent hour the night before. And so because of that. Now, this may sound crazy, but we didn't have a television in our home. He didn't think it was evil. He just didn't want the distraction of late night hours wasted away. You know what he would do today with our phones? And I don't know how he would have handled all of that, but he was intentional and we had people in the house. I can remember him saying at 10:00, y'all can stay as long as you want. Be sure to lock the door and turn off the lights and lock the door when you leave. But he was up and out and gone to bed so that he could get up first thing in the morning and be with the Lord. And let me just say to moms and dads, here I am some 50, 60 years later, and what a huge impression that made on my life about what matters most. And that set the pattern that set the course for me. Yeah.
Well, I remember when I left Moody back in 1981, I'd graduated and I couldn't afford a television. I don't know if we even had colored TVs back then. I think they might have been black and white, so I couldn't really afford it. And I just listened to Moody Radio. I listened to great teaching Erwin Lutzer, David Jeremiah, etc. and and how impactful that was. I didn't grow up in a Christian family, but it sounds like because you did, you were impacted by the mark that your dad had left on you. Is that what sort of propelled you into the teaching ministry? What what sort of pushed you into that direction?
Yeah. And let me just say, for so many listeners who did not have the kind of background and family that I did be, the start a new generation. Sure, sure, sure you can. My dad was the first in his generation. My mom was the first in hers. And they started, by God's grace, a new generation. But yes, that made a that gave me a love for God's Word. We were encouraged, not required, but encouraged to spend time in the word ourselves. And then growing up in a church where the word was preached faithfully. We didn't have like all these, like we had these great radio and TV preachers today, you know, who are national and international figures. But this was local church and just under faithful men who loved the Word of God. And that gave me a love for the word and a just a joy in it. So when I was eight years old, don't laugh. But a Sunday school teacher in our little church was going to be gone for the next week, and she asked if I would substitute teach.
Really.
Little third grade class, and I did. I have no idea what I would have said or done, but I know I was hooked. Wow, I just and it wasn't that I aspired to be a Bible teacher. I hear that a lot today. I want to do what you do. You know? I want to have that kind of ministry, and I didn't. There's nothing I'm doing today writing books and broadcasting and podcasting and teaching, doing conferences. I didn't aspire to any of that. What I did aspire to was to know the Lord, to love him, to love His Word, to know His word, and to out of the overflow of that, share it with others in small settings, wherever the Lord put me. So a lot of that is, you know, we say I don't have that kind of platform or that kind of audience, but we all have platform. We really do. Audience. We really just to share out of what God was doing in my own heart through his word. And that's really how all this evolved.
I remember being on the streets of Chicago, saw some kids playing, and I told them to come to where I was at. I was on the steps of the church and I said, let me, let me teach you guys the Bible. And, I mean, I just came to Christ. I was 14 years old. I know, I know.
I love that.
And so but I'm telling you, Nancy, I didn't know the word at all. I love God, and my pastor was trying to disciple me, but oh my goodness, I think I probably told them, you know, Adam and Eve, they they built the ark. And then.
Well, you know what? When we get to heaven. Yeah, when we get to heaven, we're going to find so much of what we all thought we knew, right? We didn't have it quite right. So we better be humble about our teaching.
We need to really be humble. Hey, we're talking to Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth today here on equipped. And what a joy it is to be with her. Hey, you want to give her a call? You want to talk to her? What a joy it is to be here on equipped with Chris Brooks. My dear brother is out for a season. We're praying for him and for his family. As you might know, his daughter has come down with something that's extremely difficult, but we believe that God is able to still do exceeding abundantly above all we can ask or even think. So I want you to continue to labor in prayer for Chris Brooks and his family. Our guest today is today is Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth. And Nancy is a dear friend of Moody Radio, and she's been involved with us for a while. Nancy, how long have you been connected?
Well, I published my first book. Moody published my first book 25 years ago.
Wow.
And actually, we're coming out with an updated edition of that this fall. A place of quiet rest on the. You know, it was a book I've and I've published, I think 23 or 4 or five books with Moody since then, but that one was on how to get into the word and get the word into you. So that was my heart back then, and then back almost 25 years ago. In 2001, we started broadcasting Revive Our Hearts. And boy, Moody has been such a great partner and such a joy to see all the fruit that the Lord has. I get to meet now the daughters of the daughters of some of the early listeners. And you get that because you've been with Moody for a lot of years yourself. But what a joy it's been to serve him together.
It is. It is a powerful thing. One of the ways that God has been dealing with me has been out of the book of Mark chapter six, where Jesus says to the disciples, come apart and rest a while, and you probably know that famous quote by Vance Havner. Come apart before you come apart. When I think of God reviving our hearts, I think that God is trying to deal with us and and he wants to make sure it's not just mental assent. It's not just go, go, go. But it really is a time of intimacy and really deep dwelling in him. So anyway, my question is, when it comes to revive our hearts, why did you come up with that name and why is that so special to you?
Well, we thought about a lot of different names and others I'm sure could have worked. But, you know, we we wanted this to be not just a ministry to people's heads.
Yeah.
But we wanted it to be the word going into our hearts. And we wanted to believe God for the supernatural. And revival comes from the Lord. We can't revive our own hearts. That's right. We can set ourselves in a place that is where we're using the means of grace God makes available to us. But ultimately that's a work of His Spirit. And so revive our hearts is a prayer. It's a request. It's an it's a humble appeal. It's saying, Lord, we need you. And it's not just revive my heart. I do pray, Lord, revive my heart, but it's Lord, we need you as your people. We need you. And you. Look at the craziness in our world today, um, on on every in every sphere. And it's so easy to say if only this or that out there would change. If only we had different political leaders, if only we had better education system, if only we had better this or that culturally. And God says no if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves. And so we pray as a ministry. Roy, we had this morning in chapel with our ministry, joined with a sister ministry. We saw a touch of God reviving our hearts. As there was humility. There was confession of sin. There was receiving of one another in a fresh way that had really been needed. There were tears shed. There was the word proclaimed and there was joy. This was just a couple hours ago. And, um, so God is freshly reviving our hearts, and he wants to do that for us individually, as families, as churches, as ministries. And imagine how this country and other countries around the world, what a difference there would be if God would first revive, if we would let God revive our hearts. And then the. What a difference would that make? We can only begin to imagine.
We can only imagine. I'm really convinced that we can't settle for a artificial substitute for revival. And. And I really want to tap in to what God has for me, what he has for my family and for my friends. So when you think of the word revival, it does go beyond emotions. It does go beyond just having what I want when I want it. Is that right?
Of course. And of course, our emotions are involved. But revival is in fact, I'm teaching through the book of Second Chronicles right now. And believe it or not, um, because some people may think Second Chronicles, I don't even know if I could find that for sure in my Bible, but it's a revival book. Yeah. And it's a book about how, you know, is the nation of Judah had many bad kings, but they had a handful of kings who sought the Lord. And they humbled themselves, and they prayed and they repented and turned from their wicked ways. And when they did, God sent seasons of revival to his people. And it's just freshly inspiring me that God can do this today. But it's it's costly. It means we've got to be willing to be humbled, to put down our pride, to confess our sins, to say, Lord, it's not my neighbor, it's not my pastor, it's not my kids, it's not my husband, it's me. Oh Lord, standing in the need of prayer. And as we take that posture of humility and I this morning again, it's just fresh in my mind. One of our ministry leaders stood before our staff and said, and there's there's some history here. But he said, we have been proud. I have been proud. And he confessed and said, we are humbling ourselves before the Lord today. And it was like just. And I wasn't even there in the room I was because of this interview and some other scheduled things I was watching on the live stream, but my heart was so full, so freshly stirred to say, Lord, what do you want to do in me? How do I need to humble myself? What do I need to pray about? What do I need to confess so that you can send revival in my marriage, in our ministry, in my church? And so it starts with us. We have to like that old time revivalist Gypsy Smith. He would said he would go into a town to preach, and he would stop on the outskirts of town, and he would draw a circle in the ground, and then he would stand inside that circle and he would say, Lord, please send revival to this town, but start it inside this circle.
Amen.
Let it begin in me. And that's really, you know, we can't make nationwide revival or we can't make revival come to our churches, but we can kind of draw that circle around our own hearts and say, Lord, it's me standing in the need of prayer. Would you revive my heart and then see? See what God may be pleased to do as his grace flows through us into other lives around us?
Wow. That's powerful. Hey, here's the number to call if you want to talk to Nancy. It's 87754836758775483675. Got Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth on the line today. And what a joy it is to have our sister with us. And I'm praying that God would continue to do a work in us and through us, because the artificial will not do. All right. So down through the years, you've been doing a number of conferences, you've been sharing, you've been inspiring what's what's in your heart now? What's what's the latest thing that you feel that God is, is prompting you to do?
Well, I've always been just kind of a one message woman. Yeah. Speaking to women and saying, we need Jesus. We need his word. It's all about him. There is he is the greatest treasure. His word is what points us to him. So none of that has changed. But I'm getting old. Well, I'm getting older. Let's just say it that way.
Let's go with older Nancy.
And I'm thinking a lot about, um, well, like, what do I want to leave? And this is not an announcement. There's no plans to go anywhere or do anything different than what I've been doing. But I think when it's the Lord's time to take me home, however many years that may be, um, what do I want to have left as a legacy with the women that I've been serving all these years? And so as a ministry, we are embarking on a, um, several year initiative that we're calling wonder of the word. Wonder of the word. Okay. And it's nothing new. It's nothing different. Here's what is new. And this is a little bit of an announcement I'm in the process started about a year ago of teaching through the Bible, starting in Genesis one and going, Lord willing, as my husband Robert would say, all the way to the maps.
At.
The back. So Genesis through revelation, it's going to be 260 daily podcasts or broadcasts and one year of Monday through Friday teaching through the word. We're in the process of recording that. It's a it's going to take me about three and a half years total to record it. And that is my life these days. Every three weeks we record five new programs. That's why I'm in Second Chronicles right now. We're about a third of the way through. Our hope, Lord willing, is to air those programs in 27. So two years from now, we'll be well into that series, and not only for our American and English speaking friends, but it's as we're recording it. It's being translated into what we think will be 20 or 30 different languages. So all the major languages or most of them spoken around the world. So women around the world can study through God's Word together and let it live in us. Love it, learn it, share it. And we're producing all kinds of resources, including a kids version that moms can go wander. The word for kids? Yeah, a teen version. A wonder app to get teen girls into the word every day. In fact, we're going to start 27. Sounds like a long way off, though it really isn't. This coming week, we're launching the whole thing this fall, the first weekend of October with the True Woman Conference. We've had many of those over the years, will be in Indianapolis again, and thousands of women coming together with a theme, the word behold the wonder that'll kick off this several year thrust. And the next year we read through the Bible together. We're going to do it in languages all around the world, with some helps and prompts and things to help keep us going and preparing for that following year when we will study through the Bible together. Not just so we get, you know, more knowledgeable about the Bible, though we hope to do that, but so that the word can be alive in us and then alive through us as we live it out and share it with others. So I've said, you know, I love God's Word, and if this is the last thing I do, this would be the greatest joy of my life to get women attached to the wonder of God's Word.
Well, His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. His word directs us. His word strengthens us. His word convicts us. His word gives us just what we need in order to spiritually succeed on the line. Right now We've got Nancy DeMoss, Wolgemuth. What a joy it is to have her. I'd love for you to reach out to us. Here's the number to call (877) 548-3675. You can talk to Nancy. Number again is (877) 548-3675. Stick around. I'm Roy Patterson. You're listening to equipped.
With.

Here's the number to call (888) 644-4144. That's (888) 644-4144 or visit equipped radio.org that's equipped radio.org. I want to thank you in advance for standing with Chris Brooks and this ministry. Hey, today we've got Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth with us. Hey, Nancy, I know you love the word. I understand you're going to do an initiative that will take us from Genesis through revelation. What's inspired you to do this?
You know the word. I've been reading it since I was able to read. Sure. And have been through the Bible many, many times and it has so shaped and formed my life, my affections, my heart, my thinking. Um, it's not that I always live it. It's not that I know it like I wish I knew it, but it has been such a joy. The Scripture talks about the word as being like, worth more than gold. Much fine gold. It's it's better than honey. It's the sweetest. And and there are hard parts of it. And I find that and parts that are as many times as I've read through it. Parts that are like what? You know, like hard to digest. Sure. I recently taught through the first nine chapters of First Chronicles. That's nine chapters of genealogies. Wow. Hard to pronounce names. Things people would never name their kids today. And I'm going like, is this really necessary? But I, the Lord, worked in my heart as I was studying it, and I ended up coming doing a session on glimpses of Grace and the gospel in the genealogies. And it was precious to me. So I'm I'm concerned about a generation that is growing up, not really knowing the big picture of Scripture. We camp in some of our favorite places. We camp in the Psalms, we camp in some of the epistles, maybe, and they're familiar stories. But I think so many today, even who've grown up in the church, don't have a whole picture of the wonder of Scripture. So I want to I want to leave. I want to share with the women I serve. Here's the story from the garden in Genesis one to the garden in Revelation chapter 22. And where is the cross in all of that? Where is Christ? Where is our hope? And this is what gives us perspective when we hear the news, when we have conflicts in our relationships, when we have problems at work, when we have financial shortages, like you think, we tend to think those areas of life, they're all separate. And then my life with Jesus, that's kind of something off to the side here. Sure. No. The Word of God is the life giving, grace equipping power that fills me, that gives me understanding, that gives me wisdom, that gives me joy in the midst of hard life circumstances. So I wanted to help women get a sense of. And I say, we have some men who listen, and they certainly are welcome to do that. But my focus has been on on the women that God's called me to serve. So I tell throughout this series as we're recording it, I 260 programs through the word I say, we're not taking a hike, which is the way I have always loved teaching the word. Take a passage, dig into it, and soak in it for a good long time. And that's that's what I've done for decades. But I said, now we're not taking a hike through Scripture. We're taking a helicopter ride through the scripture. So I want to give you the overview, but it's enough detail that we're getting a sense of what it's about, what it means, what it's for, what it teaches us about God. What we're looking, for example, all through the Scripture, people think of the Old Testament. That's like, that's a mean God. That's a harsh God. That's a, you know, they're hard things. No. All through the Old Testament, we're looking for glimpses of grace, glimpses of grace. And I keep highlighting them as I come to them in my own study and then in my teaching. Here's a glimpse of grace. Yes, all these people are getting, you know, are getting killed, or all God's giving these hard commands or these pages and pages and pages of ritual laws and things you must not do and things you must do. But what is why? What does it teach us about God? How does it point to Jesus who is the fulfillment of God's law? And where do we see the grace of God? So I can't speak for anybody else, but I'm loving it. I'm being so encouraged. And while I can't speak for one other person, my sweet husband Robert sits in our studio as I'm recording each session and he he's loving it. He's cheering, he's praying. He's saying, this is so rich. And so he's my friend and encourager as we're going through this together. And yeah, I want people to experience the wonder not just of like Psalm 23, which is wonderful, but of the whole scripture. So I'm wading through Second Chronicles right now. Pretty soon we're going to be coming up on job. I've never taught the book of job before, and I'm thinking, how am I going to see glimpses of grace? I can hardly wait because I know they're there, and I know it's going to minister to hurting people.
Oh, that's powerful. That really is. Hey, here's the number to call 5483675. I'd love for you to call. Maybe you want to ask Nancy a Bible question, or you want to call in with your life verse. Or maybe you've got a question that could help your family or your neighbor. Give this number a call. 87754836758775483675. Hey. Margaret called and she just doesn't want to go on the air. She just wanted to to let you know, Nancy, that she has begun a ministry and how much you've meant to her. In 2001, when her ministry began, we were in the middle of nine over 11. And so she's been inspired by your teaching and what you've put forth over the air and through your book. So thank you so much.
Thank you, Margaret, for your encouragement. So grateful for that. May the Lord keep you and use you. Continue to use you as you're faithful to him.
All right. So we've talked we've talked about getting in the word. We've talked about, getting the word in us. Let's just park for a second. Let's, let's let's go for a hike. Just for a moment, if you don't mind. Um, I think that this word that we've got is so valuable. It is so powerful. Um, how has it helped you specifically, whether that's dealing with emotions that are negative or or preventing you from sin or saying, no, you can come out of that. How has the word really been applicable in your life?
Yeah, day after day, um, that question is being answered and I have no greater encourager in my life. My husband's a precious encourager, of course, but the word the Lord encourages me through His word. I have no greater teacher of what's right, what pleases the Lord, what doesn't please him. I can't trust my own understanding to tell me what's right and wrong. I have no greater reprover or corrector. Could I say that when I'm headed veering off into a maybe something that's not a healthy way of thinking or healthy choices? And the word is no. Come pull back here. No, that don't go that way. That's not going to be that's not going to help your relationship with the Lord or with your husband or with others. Um, it trains me in righteousness. That and what? How this happens, Chris, is not just by, like having a Bible on my nightstand. And it's not by just like, doing quick mini doses of the word like on the run through the day. And I've been there many, many times, I get that. But something I did in the last several years that was a huge help to me in this regard. I got myself. Somebody gave me actually a journaling Bible. I had never done this before, but it's one of these Bibles that has wide margins where you can write things down. Sure. And I started I didn't know what I was going to do or how I was going to do this. I'm not much of a journaler, but I started in Genesis one and five years later I had journaled little tiny handwriting in the margins there, all the way from Genesis to Revelation, and I took my time. I didn't say I have to do so much a day or get so far, so many pages. I just said, Lord, like, what is this passage talking about? What does it say? What does it mean? What is emphasized here? What are you trying to show me about yourself? Or. And then I would make prayers and I would go, oh, Lord, or thank you, Lord, or please, Lord. And I would write out a response as the Lord would convict me or as I would be rejoicing. Thank you, Lord, that whatever I just read, or maybe praying a passage for someone else in my life that I thought it would be a blessing to. So taking that careful, thoughtful, unhurried trip through God's Word. Now my middle name is hurry. So don't think I'm like, super saintly about all this. But sometimes I just have to say flesh. Sit down and don't you know, like, put your phone aside, put your other things aside, put your email aside and sit and listen. It's Mary in Luke chapter ten. She's sat at the feet of Jesus and listened to his word. And by the way, sometimes I'm really blessed by doing by by audio, by an audio Bible. So as I'm listening, sometimes while I'm getting ready, but I'm also following the text and I'm responding, Lord, what are you saying about yourself? What are you saying about Jesus? What are you saying about the gospel? What do you love? What do you hate then, Lord? How do you want this? To change my life? And that's the work of the Holy Spirit, of course. Absolutely. But we're just continually saying, yes, Lord, yes, Lord, yes, Lord.

And for those that call in right now to talk to Nancy, we've got a book that we're going to send you away. It's called incomparable 50 days With Jesus. Hey, we've got to go to the phones right now. We've got Neil out of canton, Ohio. Neil, go ahead with your question or comment.
Oh, yes. Great. I'm glad I can leave a comment. I think I thank Nancy for her ministry. She has ministered me in so many ways, and she definitely is one who has a heart after God. And I believe that if her and King David were ever married, I don't think David would ever have had that sin of Bathsheba because she has such a good serving heart. And I think David would have found a great gem and jewel in the spirit that Nancy displays every day when she has her ministry of revive our hearts. And I appreciate her so much.
Amen. Well, that was so, so nice. Uh, Nancy, you have a comment on that? Nancy?
Well, I what you said is what I aspire to, and that's to have a heart after God. And that's something that has to be nurtured and protected and cultivated every day of our lives. Right? Because you can have a heart for God yesterday, and you can chase, as David did. Yeah. And can chase after other things, um, even later in life. So that's how we need to pray for each other, right?
Absolutely. Hey, let's go back to the phones. Amira from Alabama has called in. Elmora. Please go.
Hi, Elnora.
Elnora. I'm sorry.
Hi, Nancy. I just want you to know I've been listening to you since before you got married. And they announced your new name. And I've always been inspired by your patience and your kindness and the meekness of your voice when you speak. So when I heard you were going to be on today, I said, let me ask a simple question, because I'm a writer and my question is kind of, what does it look like to you? Or how would you process certain things, like when day to day life happens, like my children are in church ministry, I'm in church ministry, but I'm also a writer. And when life happens every day without procrastinating, how do you maintain getting back into where you're supposed to be in your ministry versus letting life keep getting in the way? Does that make.
Sense? It makes sense because I experienced that question every day. And when you know the answer, I hope you'll let me know, because it's every day listening to the Lord. It's getting in the word. So the Lord will set my priorities for that day. And then being sensitive to his spirit throughout the day, because every day looks different, right? And so we need to be just, Lord, I'm available this day. I have a sign in front of me. It's a Scripture, my life verse, and it's in our studio here. Luke 138 Mary said, I am the servant of the Lord. Let it be to me according to your word. So all day long I'm just trying to say, yes, Lord, do you want me to be interrupted by this? Do you want me to swear? You know, veer another direction. I wasn't planning to. Or do you want me to, you know, resist that distraction and stay at my desk or whatever you've put for me. But it's. It's just constantly communing with the Lord and saying, Lord, what do you have next? And then not getting too uptight because there's grace. Thank God for grace. We do blow it and we come back and say, Lord, I missed that one, but thank you that you're letting me have a fresh start here.
That's good.
Thank you so much, I appreciate that.
Thank you Eleanor. Lord bless you.
Appreciate you calling. Let's go to Colleen in Florida. Colleen, please share your concern or your question.
Yes. Hi. Here, Nancy. I've listened to you so much. You do have that voice of meekness. It just draws you in. I stop everything just to listen to you.
Oh. How kind. Thank you. Well, hopefully it's the Lord drawing your heart as you're hearing. That's what I always. That's what I want to be the case.
Sure. Of course. So I, um, I'm a, um, host parent. That means that I host foreign exchange students. And this is.
My.
Second year, and I work for the State Department. And so last year, I had a girl come from, um, Prague. And she always saw the fancy and the beautiful churches. And she said, all the old people go now, I'll move to this year. I have a beautiful young lady, 16 years old. Just became 16. Went to church, you know, at Christmas. You know, certain things. But she doesn't know Christ. She doesn't. She knows or something, but she doesn't. She's watched us going to church. She wants to be involved. She now says prayers. She goes to teen mass at the church. So she's now she's talking about being baptized. I don't know, answers to these things. You know, I am Catholic. Um, I also go to community churches. You know, it's a little different, too. Um, I'm also with Passion City out of Atlanta, and I've learned a lot. We did a whole floor study for two years. So, um, I just want to know what's the best way to take care of her needs and her relationship.
You know what? What a wonderful ministry this is with foreign exchange students. And we have a staff member who did this for many years in her home. So bless you for that. But I would just encourage you to open your Bible with your foreign exchange student. Get her one. Get a translation that she can understand and pick up. You know, maybe the Gospel of John and just start to read it together, chapter by chapter, paragraph by paragraph. Talk about it, pray and say, Lord, would you show us because you're learning to with her and say, Lord, just open our eyes. Open our hearts to understand what you're saying. You know, churches, you want to make sure they're really preaching and proclaiming the Word of God, but you can in your home, get together with this precious young woman and just say, Lord, teach us from your word. That's where so much discipleship takes place. So that maybe isn't all you would do, but that, I think, would certainly be a great starting place.
Oh that's good. I appreciate that, Colleen. Thanks so much for calling. Let's go to Jessica from Costa Rica. Jessica, I've only got like a minute left, but please go with your question.
Okay. I just want to comment. I'll be as quick as possible. I met at the Ministry of Nancy in 2013, but it was in Aviva Nuestros Corazones, and I always thought Patricia de Saladin was Nancy, until one time I paid attention and I was like in the voice of Nancy Leigh DeMoss, Patricia de Saladin. And I'm like, what? So I googled Nancy and and I'm like, oh, it's in English. So I started to listen to it in English as well. Then I moved to Costa Rica. I was never able to go to the conferences through women in the States, but when I moved back home to Costa Rica, I was able to go to Monterrey and Mujer Verdadera 2020, 2023 and last year in Guadalajara. And it's just been great. I even spoke to you briefly because I made the two hour line just for you to sign my book and to.
Wonderful.
Yeah, but it was great. And tomorrow we start in our church. So seeking God. Um, Bible study and my girls doing the true girl that you know, it's inspired by you and Dan and Gretchen and it's just been great. It's just.
So, Jessica, you have made such an encouraging statement. We appreciate you so much. Thank you. Hey, Nancy, I've enjoyed having you on as well. True women conference coming up. Can you tell us real briefly.
October 2 to 4 Indianapolis go to just Google True woman 25. And we're going to be hold the wonder of his word with thousands of women from across around the world. So join us there.
