As more sectors opened up in Q4 of 2021, just in time for holiday shopping, the Malaysian retail scene saw a significant boost in income and consumer traffic nationwide. But despite all the rush and eagerness to get back to some sense of normalcy, the retail industry still shrank by 2.3% last year. While that number may seem small, it still means something to the local market and is a useful predictor for 2022. We’ll try to unpack the retail shrinkage with Vernon Chua, CEO of Innergia Labs, who will also help us predict how the rest of the year will fare, shopping-wise.
