The award-winning Efendi boutique hotel in Acko in northern Israel was severely damaged and burned by an Arab mob during the internecine riots that swept the country last May. But like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the Efendi hotel is back and will be reopening its doors to guests in late August. Reporter Arieh O’Sullivan spoke to hotel owner and chef Uri “Buri” Jeremias about the renovation and the vision he has for Jews and Arabs living and succeeding together in Acko.
