Legendary fighter jet pilot of American and Israeli air forces Joel Aronoff passes away

View descriptionShare

This weekend the funeral was held here in Israel for veteran aviator Joel Aronoff who died of cancer at the age of 81. Aronoff was a unique, legendary and decorated Phantom jet fighter pilot in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. He immigrated to Israel in the late 1960s and succeeded in breaking into that paragon of all Israeli realms – IAF pilots – and flew heroic missions during the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Attending his funeral were not only former Israeli air force commanders and fellow pilots, but also representatives from the US air force. Lt.-Col (reserve), Danny Grossman, also one of the very few US Air Force aviators who later flew in the Israeli air force, gave tribute to Joel Aronoff. He was speaking to reporter Arieh O’Sullivan
