The shooting death of an Ethiopian-Israeli youth by an off-duty police officer renewed accusations of police brutality and racism toward the community.
Dr. Avital Mentovich, an assistant professor of criminology at the University of Haifa, told KAN's Naomi Segal that while the use of lethal force by police against civilians is relatively low in Israel compared to other countries, such as the United States, underlying biases cause such incidents to be directed more often against minority communities, such as Ethiopian-Israelis.
