The Public Security Ministry has tightened gun carrying policies, halving the number of security guards who are allowed to keep their firearms after working hours. The move by Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan came two weeks after an armed security guard used his weapon to kill his partner – the fourth such incident in Israel  since 2016. Meanwhile, representatives from the anti-gun violence coalition, Gun on the Kitchen Table, appealed to the High Court in protest over foot-dragging in a petition they lodged challenging the 2018 public security minister's gun licensing reform, which widened eligibility criteria for obtaining a permit to carry a gun.  KAN reporter Naomi Segal heard more from advocate Neta Levy of Itach-Ma'aki Women Lawyers for Social Justice organization, who submitted the appeal.
