Knox County Mobile Meals just hosted their annual Power of the Purse fundraiser to much success. Sara Keel joins us this morning to tell us about the volunteer opportunities available with Mobile Meals and how you can help out!

East Tennessee Now is a community oriented public affairs program designed to address local problems and issues and explore possible or existing solutions. The program features community leaders, representatives of area non-profits, healthcare professionals and other experts in their respective fields.

Frank Murphy interviews Sara Keel, Program Manager for Knox County CAC Mobile Meals about their upcoming "Power of the Purse" fundraiser on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Rothchild Catering and Conference Center, 8807 Kingston Pike, Knoxville. Donations of gently used purses are being accepted through August 31, 2026 at these locations during normal business hours:

Knox County CAC (Community Action Committee) Mobile Meals provides nutritious, home-delivered meals, along with safety checks and friendly connection, to more than 1,100 homebound seniors throughout Knox County. Meals are delivered every weekday by a dedicated volunteer network, helping seniors maintain their health, independence, and quality of life at home. By combining reliable meal service with regular in-person contact, Mobile Meals supports seniors in staying safe, reducing isolation, and continuing to live with dignity in their own homes. Frank Murphy interviews Leslie Adams and Billy Stair of the Haiti Outreach Program, based at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Haiti Outreach Program will host a special, multimedia program of inspiring stories and music to benefit its medical mission on Sunday, August 23, 2026 beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Cathedral School gymnasium. The gym is located at the rear of the campus at 711 S. Northshore Drive in Knoxville. Hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be provided. Admission is free and all are welcome. Please RSVP by emailing haitioutreach@shcknox.org with your name and the number of people attending.

The mission of the Haiti Outreach Program is to break the cycles of poverty in Haiti through their relationships with the people of Boucan-Carré, focused on Mind (Education), Body (Healthcare), and Spirit (Faith). Learn more at https://www.haitioutreachprogram.org/
