Hour 3: Sidelines with the Dogs, Former Saint LB Pat Swilling, Yeah Man/ No Man

View descriptionShare
It was time to get into the latest news and notes around the college football and basketball world during our “On the Sidelines with the ‘Dawgs” segment.

Joining the show to talk about his NFL and Georgia Tech careers, and the fact his sons play for the Yellow Jackets is College Football Hall of Fame LB Pat Swilling.  Was their “Not really guys, I tried to stay out of it as much as possible.  I’ve known Ted Roof for a long time and they also looked at USC and LSU and other schools, and at the end of the day, they wanted to continue their careers there.”  How far has the game removed itself from your playing days? – “It’s already far away from when I played.  I don’t where the game is headed.  It’s not like my days of the “Dome Patrol” with my former teammates Rickey Jackson, Vaughan Johnson and Sam Mills, and when guys like Ronnie Lott played.”  What’s wrong with today’s game? – “We were built to be tough.  We practiced every day…these guys don’t.  These guys are conditioned differently from previous years.  Their bodies are not conditioned to play the game of football, I really believe that.”  On Paul Johnson at GT – “We were probably six points from winning nine games.  He’s shown he could win with his system and if the defense would have played better, we might have gotten into a bowl game.  Coach Johnson has figured out what works for them.  If they were able to throw the ball just a little bit more, they would be unstoppable.”  What has Drew Brees meant to the city of New Orleans? – “I call him Mr. Mayor.  I never thought there was a window for it (his leaving).  At the end of the day, he’s become the pulse of New Orleans and the Southeast.  He’s been an ambassador for the team and he will become a great Hall of Famer.”  On the Saints in 2018 – “This defense has a chance.  I think they have a two-year window, and they’ve added some pieces to get it down.  Drew Brees will be gone in a couple of seasons.”  Toughest guy you ever played against? – “(former Falcons OL) Mike Kenn.  His long arms was tough.  The NFC West was tough.  Jackie Slater was another one.  The Niners and the talent we faced from Montana and Jerry Rice.”  Do you blame Bobby Hebert for those playoff losses? – “I blame him all the time (laughs).  If we had Drew, I’d have rings on my fingers and toes.”
