Patti Vasquez and guest co-host Adam Selzer are joined by Yolanda Androzzo, executive director of One Aim Illinois.
"One Aim Illinois is a Black-led nonprofit gun violence prevention organization," Androzzo told WCPT. "We are the largest grassroots gun violence prevention coalition in Illinois, with over 270 members. We educate, advocate, organize and uplift survivor voices to protect Illinois children and families from gun violence. We've been around since 1994, and we have a survivors council, we work with those who are impacted by gun violence, and then we also have a public safety task force, which monitors the laws that we've passed to make sure that they're effective."
The organization is hosting its third annual fundraiser on November 13 at Hubbard Inn in Chicago, with the theme "voices for change in the fight to end gun violence." The event will honor Arne Duncan and Marsha Lee, and feature speaker Kenny Gross from the Institute for Nonviolence Chicago. The fundraiser aims to support the organization's work amidst federal budget cuts to gun violence prevention programs.
