How can Catholics appreciate the excitement of professional sports, high team expectations, and athletic talent through the lens of Christian stewardship and healthy leisure? On Driving Home the Faith, host Paul welcomes Fr. Tom Ray, parochial vicar of St. Vincent Ferrer Church and Catholic chaplain for the Cincinnati Bengals, for a sports spotlight discussion during the team's bye week.

Fr. Ray shares how he encourages players and staff to embrace rest and Sabbath during their off week. He explores the spiritual dimension of sports through St. Thomas Aquinas's understanding of leisure, showing how athletic competition can foster the common good, virtue, and human solidarity. Fr. Ray and Paul also tackle the rising influence of sports gambling and fantasy sports, offering a thoughtful critique on how commercialization and algorithms can distract fans from authentic human connection, joy, and true sportsmanship.
