Can the Church and civil government coexist harmoniously without reducing faith to a private club or resorting to top-down political coercion? On Driving Home the Faith, host Dr. Ken Craycraft welcomes back William Haun, Senior Counsel at the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, to continue exploring his book, Not to Caesar, but to Peter: Why the Catholic Church is a Perfect Society (Angelico Press).

Haun defines "legal pluralism"—the historical concept where distinct jurisdictions like the Church and the civil state operate within the same territory over different aspects of human life. He addresses contemporary Catholic "integralism" as championed by scholars like Adrian Vermeule and Patrick Deneen, offering a balanced critique. While affirming the ultimate spiritual end of the Church and the goal of a Christianized society, Haun argues against state-driven coercion, proposing instead a bottom-up restoration through strong Catholic families, schools, and cultural institutions as demonstrated by American Catholic history.
