How does the concept of synodality differ from the Vatican II doctrine of collegiality, and what does it mean for the future of Catholic governance and doctrine? On Driving Home the Faith, host Dr. Ken Craycraft welcomes back retired theologian Dr. Larry Chapp, host of Gaudium et Spes 22, to analyze his recent National Catholic Register article, "Awaiting Pope Leo's Clarity on Amoris Laetitia."

Chapp clarifies the distinct theological roots of episcopal collegiality—established in Lumen Gentium to strengthen the authority of local bishops alongside the Pope—versus modern iterations of synodality. While affirming that genuine synodality can combat hyper-clericalism and foster the universal call to holiness, Chapp warns against permitting synodal processes to be used as a stalking horse to undermine traditional Church teaching. Craycraft and Chapp conclude with an encouraging reminder of Christ's promise that the Church will ultimately prevail, calling on the faithful to stay steadfast in hope. Stream now to listen!
