What happens when a college student decides to bring the Eucharistic Lord into the streets of his hometown?

On Driving Home the Faith, Dr. Ken Craycraft speaks with Jacob Patrick, a University of Dayton engineering student and recent convert to Catholicism who is organizing a Eucharistic procession through downtown Dayton on Saturday, August 29.

Inspired by the annual men's Eucharistic procession in Cincinnati, Jacob wanted to bring the same public witness of faith to his hometown. The procession will begin with 10 a.m. Mass at Emmanuel Catholic Church, followed by a procession through downtown Dayton to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where participants will adore the Blessed Sacrament before returning to Emmanuel.

Along the way, participants will pray for the city and ask Jesus to bless Dayton. The procession will also stop in the Oregon District, the site of the 2019 mass shooting, to pray for healing, peace, and God's blessing upon the city.

Jacob shares the remarkable story of his own journey to Catholicism. Raised without a practicing religious faith, he describes being an atheist through much of middle school and high school before beginning a search for truth at the University of Dayton. Two years ago, he was baptized and confirmed at the university's Immaculate Conception Chapel.

He also discusses the growth of Catholic campus ministry at UD, the increasing availability of Eucharistic Adoration, and the role students can play in helping one another grow in faith.

This conversation is ultimately about more than organizing an event—it's about bringing Christ into the public square and asking Him to transform a city.
