Welcome to Drink Champs, the production of The Black Effect and I Heart Radio and it's drink Cha's motherfucking podcast. He's a legendary Queen's rappers. He's like, is your boy in O R? He's a Miami hip hop pioneer. What up is d J e f N? Together they drinking up with some of the biggest players in the most professional, unprofessional podcast and yet number one sorts for drunk fast drinks. Mother is New year' z. That's time for Drink Champs. Drink up for the would it could be hopefully ship boy in O R? What up is d J e FN? And this is Drink chas motherfucker yappy like we always say. Man. When we started this show, we knew and we realized that there's other shows for the young people and the new young hot dudes, and we said, we want to, you know, cater to our legends, the people that has been down, people that's put in the work, the people have been loyal to the game, the people that's never turned their back on the game inspired us. That inspired us, and not only that, you know what I'm saying, people who stay true to the games. People who is you know, amongst the culture and these two brothers right here right now, is that you know what I mean is real hip hop, real culture, real men, you know what I'm saying. Not to be confused, you know, I mean, you know, you know with all of that, you know what, but case what we're talking about about dress from black Seat and see what's going on? What your brothers is on tour? What did your brothers doing? Um, a couple of spot days, you know, really has since the COVID kind of done came back to um on the other side where we can get back outside a little bit. You know, we had a spot day down here in Miami, and you know, like like everybody is really kind of you know, we all like one person away from you know, being cousins, Like one person one person away. I like that tell you so you know, one spot day so um, so yeah, so we're gonna be down here and um and one of the one of the brothers that works here is a very very good friend of Mount for a lot of years, you know what I'm saying, Like I've literally seen him kind of grow up as as a person and man and and executive. Now what I'm saying, he was like you know, like you're gonna be down there, like when they reach out to the fellas and see if we can put it together. I was very grateful because I really really like the platform. So let me let me get straight into it. Right. One of the most um a group of world groups before Wu Tang, one of the most you know, famous groups, uh, was native tongue collection A collection A collection you know, um, and you both of you brothers was in native time. How how how how was that to see a transition from just just you tell me just how you even got down with native to because we know we recentually had read alert on here and we recently had money Love on here. But um, you know, I was picking their brains about, you know, the native tongue. I want to hear you guys perspective, like how did you get down with it? And what was it like once you got down with it? Um? I guess I'll go first, because I guess yeah, Well, for me, it was it was really this really organic dope experience because I'm I met long in North Carolina, and you know, I went to high school in North Carolina. I'm from the Story Projects and I grew up in the blaming projects as well with both my parents to live Yeah, yeah, sincer Sami. People. Um just to say, like, you know, so I'm you know, that's where I'm from, grew up. Everybody knows me as Tiki, you know what I'm saying, Like, you know, we all got nickname. Of course, everybody know me at Tiki. You know what I'm saying to them. So, um, my mom's got remarried, went to high school North Carolina. So you know, we moved North Carolina when I get my senior year in high school, we moved to another little spot, and I mean long. We had a metube friend, this cat named Standing Stand was from the Bronx. He was my man like. He was both from New York and Carolina. So we was really holding it down. And we had a little man by the name of Shorty Doo Shor was long Long was so small he had to stand on milk crates. But he was the nicest DJ any of us ever seen. He was. He was beyond nice, you know what I'm saying. But and so that like I was our little creue, you know I'm saying. My cousin f was down there, big Shot, the big from Bash um, you know what I'm saying, just to say, like, so, we was running around down there kind of doing the New York thing in Carolina really holding it down. And long story short, Red Alert had a show down there with Sparky d and the Real Rock sand and Red was the host. So we had Little Juice at the at the arena and and and Raleigh, my man Crazed from the Bronx, was one of the promoters. We was able to get Long on stage. We had a little Juice stage right, A man is one of the promoters. So we got Long on stage in front of everybody's on entire arena and he's so little everybody's bugging out, but he's dumb nice. So Red approaches. I'm like, yo, you know, like yo, who are you know like this out there? And he's like, yo, shorty do I I'm from Brooklyn but I live down here, but I come up every summer. So Red gives him a number, like YO, when when you come up, get up with me? So that's summer. Red Long goes up. Red hasn't been a student, you know I read is Red grabs him running them around, And Red hasn't been a studio for the Jungle Brother this first album, making up their first album, you know, saying, so that's when Long gets introduced to the clip. I'm saying, so every summer he's coming back and forth unbeknown to me because I don't I didn't finish school. I'm you know, I'm doing a hundred different things up in my head, doing some things right, doing something's wrong. You're not to go, but just to say, you know, I'm trying to out so so you know, every something, he's coming back and forth. So eventually, after I'm bumping my head, you know enough times where I'm not trying to bump it anymore. I'm trying to do something else, I think God blesses me, and I'm and I'm literally walking down the street my hand. I just got my first apartment in the Bronx and from Queens, but I get my first apartment in the Bronx because it's the only place I got a fourth And you know, when you're young, you don't even care if you're walking over crackheads, it don't even matter. I'm uh, that's not an avenue right over again, fishing And that's why a lot of cats think I'm from the Bronx because you know what I'm saying, that's where I got my first apartment and that's where we kind of blew from. So I'm literally walking down the street and my hand come from from work going going back to a school office, and I passed along on the street my hand and I'm like wow, wow, like you know what I'm saying, Like y'all hadn't seen each other and seeing each other since the room in North Carolina, you know I'm saying. So I'm like, Yo, what you're doing up here? He's like, you know, like Yo, I'm trying to do this music thing. I'm like word, like yo, you know, like where you at? He's like, I'm in Brooklyn. I'm staying with my aunt, her man and their kid in a studio. But you was already writing ROMs. She was already making music or no, I was writing ROMs. But like like it was more like catching rep you know what I'm saying, Like you know, like you're going to block hustling, you changing the lyrics and you know, like you know, just but but I had it in me because I was doing it all these years down South, every day when I was down South, just just because it was nothing else to do. My man had equipment, had mis and his mom was cool. We could smoke, We drink a lot forties. So every day we just could. You know what I'm saying. Every day every day that's what we did. What I'm saying. But I didn't realize it would be the training ground for later, you know what I'm saying. But so so bumping along. He don't really have a stable situation. I just got an apartment. I'm like, yo, mom, a little man. I'm like, yo, give me one week deliving it. You can become crushed with me till you get on your feet. So when he comes, you know, So the next week he comes, stay with me. He got records, he got turntables. I'm like, oh, you still do when this ship? Like yo, I'm bugging out, Like Yo, that's what's up, you know what I'm saying. So he comes in and I don't really feel like it's for me to start taking him where I just came from. So I start kind of like piggyback and with what you know, what you got going on, you know what I'm saying. So he started introducing me to the cats, taking me to the client p I saw meeting DAYLT of Jungle Tried, Tried, when they're working on their first album. Okay, but you just answer my question before I about to say whatever, was trying back the first record out yet you know, it's just been probably featured on the Jungle Brothers. That's the only thing that the promo, right, the promo right right, that's that's really them getting their first look. And so I'm you know, it's kind of cool because it's like at a time time when like I already know who cats are other than other than tribal, Like I don't hustle. I remember hustling on Prince of Roosevelt and Flushing and the boxes on the corner, and I remember pottles of my Lan coming on and just how I felt to hear it, you know what I'm saying. So now I'm in a room with these cats, and I'm like looking at them like, oh, you know, like I don't even think they realize how powerful they are, at least in my eyes, you know what I'm saying, Like, like they really stand for something and they're coming together the natives. It's really powerful, you know what I'm saying. Like, But at the same time, it's like I'm I'm I'm a project kid from Queens, though you might not see it when you when you look at me, but like I'm literally just coming from Rikers and coming from a halfway house. You said I did to most on Rikers because I jumped bell on on a direct selle and and and then get caught up, get extradited from North Carolina. Don't get no bell I have to do the whole case frou from Rikers and then get probated to a halfway house. From there, I get in school, I get a job. And that's when I'm bumping along. Department. That's all doing the right that That's when I bumping along and you something so so even bumping along like you know, like I'm like, you're still doing this ship. He's pulling out records and like this problem might be four records, this probably might be six records. There's probably five records. He got no equipment, got turn tables and records, and I'm like, you know, what's he's possible and he put you know, put one beat on. He's like, yo, I hear this beat, play a bet he I had his baseline play baseline said these horns but it's all in his head. We got no quick They're like like that was that was making the beat in the day. That was kind of cheat that was that was on the album. I literally like like like like that's how how regular regular record? Like like like he kind of like he kind of felt like and which was real, like you know, like he's in the room with the natives for a few years. He kind of felt like it was for us to not necessarily hone on break beats, but to discover new breakbeats. So that's what a lot of our projects was a lot about when did Cord record? How did you? How do you? How do how do you remember that he wrote it down or something like um? Because you said he was making the um like playing different records and that's how it. So how did he remember? Like because you know, I like right now if I play a record, I can stop a record and say two minutes and ten seconds, this is the part I like back then we have our phones wen't have but he probably remember like like like the number one get a loops gonna stand out to him because he's already got something else that he thinks goes with it. So he's kind of remember it. But number two, I don't don't drink, smoke, none of your above he has he has ability, don't like understandable. He got straight a builders. We ain't got no more. So that led up to you actually getting down what they tell that was like you know, so so you know, like it's kind of cool because it's like, you know, like I said, like I'm kind of like this hustling kid that's not talking about hustling, you know what I'm saying. And so so I think that's rubbing him the right way it is. I don't I don't need nothing from nobody. I'm kind of self sufficient. What happening? So we're really friends, you know I'm saying like you know, like you know should be you know, like what's the angle? Was no angle? Cool? This is my man saying. If anything, I'm a little protective of him, you know what I'm saying. So I'm so we saw start getting cool and you know, I'm peeping Loan stability in the room. Long actually did the cuts on Buddy, you know, like like low known fact. Loan contributed beat to Tips first album, like you know, like he was there with them walking in and um so when he's introducing me. They're looking at me like I'm an extension along which is love, you know, saying with just love you know what I'm saying, which because the group hadn't been officially formed between right right, right, they had never heard me rhyme anything, and I'm saying, we've just been hanging out for a few months though now you know what I'm saying, So they don't heard me freestyle little bit heeaded there, but you know, nothing official. My first record was Daylight Soul is Dead jumping on Fanatic of the B word that they put me on a joint. That was the first joint that people heard me. So what happens is this Like I'm really peeping the temperature like they along, like you know, like we need to make a demo, like you know what I'm saying, Like we were really in the room with some of the dopest cats in hip hop if we can impress them, especially Red, like Red is Red. That was your goal to make a demo. It wasn't make a real full flax record. It was just a demo. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, you know, because you want to done the champion, you guys, right, we you know we wanted, Yeah, we wanted to be in the room with him. What I'm saying, like, we didn't want to just put a record out and they hear it. We wanted, you know, to be an extension. You know I'm saying so. And that's how it felt too, because literally every day that's who I hung out with. You know, it got to the point where I didn't even go to the hood. I'm hanging out. You know, what's in the village with, you know, Devin washing Sprint Park. This had the other you know later for what's in the backpack? I got the backpack, you know what I'm saying, Like I'm making so so like eventually this is my word, um you know, like back then, you know, like a studio session called paper, Like you know what I'm saying, We're gonna spend easily our studio session. He's gonna spend five to seven huney easily. That was a filter for people who wasn't really into it to not get into it right that road. So so like they definitely were buffers because because now you know, like you gotta computer, you anybody, they really had to want what I'm saying, And like I said, like like you spend the five seven hundred to do a song maybe maybe two, you know what I'm saying. So if you're trying to do three to five songs you spend, you spend a couple of jeys, So well, um me along. I'm you know, I'm like, yo, we need to do a dem alone. You know, like we got Red and you got the Natives, this and the other. Because Red is also an asset within himself what I'm saying, so we know, I'm like, yo, along, like we just as nice, like you just as talented as these kids. Like like I think I'm just as nice. I think what I'm saying, Like we've been ranking rhymes just as long. I literally sell point all my jewelry to taking long to the porn shop. Point all my jewelry right in the porn shop. Give him half my half the paper. I'm like, yo, let's go book. Some sessions were partners, now, you know what I'm saying, because I kind of got to justify like he bought me in the room, you know what I'm saying, Like like you know, like like if this works out, you just changed my life, you know what I'm saying. And I felt real loyal to him for a lot of years behind that, you know what I'm saying, Maybe even overly so sometimes, but just to say so, so we go and we do this demo. We do it on twenty third three doses a studio and um the Astor Hotel. They had a studio in it. We do a demo in there, like like three or five songs. We hit the natives with it, We hit Read with it. Everybody's digging it, you know what I'm saying. They put us Read sets up a bunch of meetings with us with funking clan God blessed Death. Wasn't y'all on job at what point? No, No, that was a tribe. So Read us up a bunch of calls. We wanted to get on depth jail, but Leo was kind of a character that I was like, y'all can't with Hopefully I've heard he's growing up. I know I've grown up. Just to say so, so we didn't, you know, we didn't do the depth everything. We want to go with a PolyGram and you know, so once we get the deal, well as we're about to shot start shopping the deal, Red puts us with a great man by the name of Chris lady and so um, Chris warks up being our first manager and we wind up being the first deal that that gets a deal with Chris in an executive position. This Chris Russian Management or just Chris violence Chris. This is before Chris was violated. This is Chris us this baby, yeah, this is baby baby sounds his baby. This is the very first of everything, before everything got rolled in, this very first thing because something happened. I was real dope, you know I'm saying, and I hope you know what I'm saying. It speaks to I think how we start looking at each other like you know, like when Chris started just his company and I said, he's managing us here, he's our first manager. He comes to me, he's like, yo, you know, like you know I had the deal is done. We don't negotiate. Everything's done. Um he's like they're ready to write y'all to check, you know, like like it's not it's not going with it's not a middleman situation. It's not like going through Chris. It's you know, like it's our deal directly, right. So but he comes to me and he's straight up and he's like you know, like look, you know, like this is the first thing my company has ever done. He's like, yo, would it be I if they wrote the check to my company and my company wrote the check to y'all, so it showed the work exactly, So you know, yeah, yeah, you know, it shows that exactly. He's established company. Else he's working what have you. And I'm like, you know, like I wouldn't have it any other way, man, Like you know what I'm saying, like we came this far, like you know, like but you know, I look at it sometimes and a lot of cats just don't have that simple together, you know, like like like like loyalty, yeah, yeah, exactly, yeah yeah, right right right right, you know, I'm saying loyalty in the transparent That's how it happens to this day right now. Um, most of the time, the checks go to the lawyer, and the lawyer, um you know, sends it out. Yeah, but you better believe the lawyer's gonna take his piece off the top before you know, you know, yeah, you know what I'm sure I just did too, Like let's but but but but it didn't have to be like that, Okay, it could have been me kind of check to him, Okay, cool, you know what I'm saying, right, And but but us being brothers, was me believing in him just as much as he believed in me, right, So, and what happened eventually was like you know, like I really wound up looking at Rush as something that was could be detrimental just because of the interaction that we had. So when Chris went the Rush, I had to be straight up when him like Yo, Chris, I love you man, but I don't want to go over there. You know what I'm saying, like like like this is my world. Like like my interaction with Leo to me was was downright disrespectful. But I I'm not cutting you off. But Leo didn't have anything to do with Rush. I thought it was just he's a part of the whole tel Yeah, but I thought not, That's that's what I think. The meeting with said. That's why I took the meeting when we was when we was going when you're going to Rush was going to Rush to the label. I took the meeting with Leo when Chris was going to do this management thing he was earlier it like what yeah, this is this is nineties nineties yeah, yeah, like yeah, you're saying yeah, like like Leo's all over the block, you know what I'm saying, and this is my word like and and I'm not trying to So I thought that's how they was always corner in the market meeting. They were one one of them was depth to them, and then one of them was the management. So that's where they could They started three sixty before they knew they was doing three sixty. Because just think about it. If I'm signed to cheat and then she is my manager, that's technically illegal. Like I signed the cheat and then signed the chasm as I got signed to you as the label and then signed to you as management. As long as y'all names on the company, that's perfectly fine. You can hang out every day, be best friends, that's not illegal. But if y'all name is on the same company, that's how I can get out the contract. So I always thought that you just scool with just some ship get to you and and and that says a lot like this is how I'm looking at it, like like yo, there's there's too much power in that structure for somebody that I don't even really feel like that, you know what I'm saying, I feel comfortable given that kind of power. What I'm saying. But I love Chris. But but they got Chris in, you know, like their mentor, and Chris, Chris was not a partner. Chris was coming in, little coming in and you know, like and they're grooming him. Okay, I'm saying, he's a little home It's okay at this point, at this point, right, you know, I'm saying, So what Chris does he respects you know, I'm saying, and he's like, yo, you know I'm gonna put you. I'm gonna put you somebody to trust. And I think you can trust because uh shot him Latifa four Flavor unit. This is the beginning of OKA. And so we had the deal. Flavor of the Month was out already and Flavor you know became our management sense and right right right, And Chris w wasn't to Rushia you know now, and that's where we parted. But you know that that was I was in his office the week you know before he passed. You know what I'm saying, So like you know, like state my brother. You know what I'm saying. And God bless yeah, God blessed sin silly like just a good man, a good brother man. I definitely missed, you know what, definitely missed. I don't wanted to switch to cheat. We'll crip up. But before we do that, UM, I'll be We're miss if I don't ask you this. Do you think Chris killed this up? Um? It doesn't seem like like like the brother I knew. But one thing happened when when I went to go see Chris, we had a conversation that we had never had before where he was talking about, um, we are just talking about inside the house, you know what I'm saying, Like like me and christ knowing each other a lot of years and you know, and and seeing each other through a lot of situations, but we generally didn't have the in the house about what's going on, you know I'm saying. So, you know, So that kind of struck me, like I'll never forget that, you know what I'm saying. And I do know for me to have a conversation like that with him, he was not in the right space. Not to say in the race space, because I don't know what the race spaces I'm saying, but but he was in a space that I didn't really know him for being it, you know what I'm saying, like like like you know, like he was he was sharing a few things that you know, like like like like that he just never shared before. And I've been around him for a lot of years and and I'm sure you know, there's ups and downs, you know, in all of our lives, you know what I'm saying. And you know, to the degree that he shared a couple of things that I you know, like it really kind of kind is stuck with me, you know. So you know, so when everything happened, I've never known what to think, but it it didn't seem like the type of characteristics characteristics that um that I knew him to have, you know, like like like Chris was a fighter, you know what I'm saying, Like even even yeah, you know I was with Chris when he got cut us at night, you know, when Chris got cut, you know what I'm saying, Like you know, like you know, like we swore goes the club. No, No, it was uh right right bick square, Like yeah, I mean you know, like like Chris was a fighter, you know what I'm saying, Like you know, and you know, and we were all New Yorkers you know what I'm saying, Like it's something about being in New Yorker, like you know, like all our odds can be against you, you know, yeah, yeah, right exactly, like you know, like we just don't quit, you know what I'm saying. So it hurt. It hurt me that, um, and there's so much down That's what hurts me. That's what hurts me is that I like, definitively, I was like, Nope, he didn't do he didn't do that, Like this is a setup. And then I started to hang with certain people and certain people revealing things, and I mind you, I'm I'm young, young, so like I don't think he ever revealed certain ship to me like he always I could, like he was this strong guy, like even at times when I knew he was vulnerable. So I say that. Before I say that, I want to ask you the same question, Um, do you think, because you have the same relationship with Chris pretty much right, Um, do you think he killed this up? I mean, of course the immediate answers to say no, because Chris, I know well never would never take his own life. But at the same time, I was gone, like I was away for twelve years and you know, I got relasd Chris passed away while he was. I got released like on a Tuesday, and Chris fast like a third like two like a day and two after I got released. We need to get a se crazy that dres that hit me like, yo, Chris want to see you. It just was like the day I came home, he was like, yo, Chris want to see you. And I was like, all right, you got some bread. And he was still trying to help, you know what, saying like like like, Chris, you know this is my word, Chris, I was releasing an independent project. Um you're saying like I've been releasing independent projects over the years, you know, just on my own, my own little label and kind of just you know, staying you know, with my feet, you know, in the culture to how I feel. So I was releasing this project called up from the Blackpool of Genius, and I stopped by Chris's office and let him hear it and talk to him about, you know, possibilities of how to push your full it. Chris jumped on the phone, maybe about three phone calls on behalf of it right there. Ye, Chris hadn't managed me since he handed me to chuck him. He still was a brother, know what I'm saying, Like that was my dude, Like you know, like that was because you went to Flavor, you know, like but that was my could I could call Chris about anything like you know, and like I said, we didn't. We didn't really reach out to each other like that, but it was always bad, you know what I'm saying, Like like you know, you know, I could literally just jump in his car and you know, like yo, where you're going, you know, dropped me off here like like it was like my brother like brothers, like you know what I'm saying, Like we negotiated his first deal, my first deal, you know what I'm saying, So so we knew each other before that, you know I'm saying like it wasn't something that was he didn't look at me and see dress a black sheet. I didn't look at him and see baby Chris when we was rocking, you know what I'm saying, Like we had we was already rockhead and Red really was like oh and really he's the one that put me in sheer together really like I used to like when they had sessions. I guess Chris would have dress and long and long like probably writing for me with the beating, because the beating us was producing my first album, because I was shout out to the beat. I think, like I feel like yo, like Chris just like left me there. It was just like like but to his credit, he wasn't an average kid. What I'm saying, like this kid have more sneakers and tasting, you know what I'm saying, and and and alpha numeric beep when cats, you know what I'm saying, was trying to send hello to their girls. You know, I'm saying seven whatever the hell? You know what I'm saying, Like she was ahead of grown men on a certain level. I don't even think he realized how fly he was to a degree, you know what I'm saying, Like like she was a flat cat, you know, young dude. So even in him getting dropped off, it was like all right, you know, like I don't mind, you know, like you know, like he's he's not gonna, he's not gonna, he's not gonna bother me. You know I'm saying, like it was I used to get me in spots still you do read dressing read They used to get me in everywhere, and I was it wasn't young. I was little. I was will a little, you know, I used to make it happen. Is Red is the uncle that's in everybody's family that that you know, like he used the one that gives you your first bid man. He had him here and he's like, yeah, yeah, you know right ya young smoke, you have a smoke. I guess me and dress kind of clicked more because I guess because everybook from meybody, how we look and everybody was like brothers. Definitely looked like we just started running around like and it's my word, like I was doing your album. I remember I used to be in the car with Chris like, Yo, you're giving dressing them all a good beats like you're gonna be yeah yo, And I remember it's my words back in those days too, like you know, because you used to around Micet and I remember my feet could barely touch the floor in the back seat of my car, like I'll been running them since then, like you know, like those was to my song, Yeah, like those is you know, this is my word. Him and Mice was you know, around, was around me and I used to I love to see them because they were like just official young cats. You know what I'm saying, like just really official cats. I mean, you know what I'm saying, Like I love seeing them. Later on, I felt a little guilty because I felt like, maybe you know, like you know, you wouldn't know what to look at me. But maybe I felt like, you know, maybe on the undercurrent these things that people don't know about me, maybe I was doing a little too much around you. You know what I'm saying. So I think you both had good hair, beautiful this is true. So that means you were smashing a lot. It's a lot of finger popping a lot. I mean it was going down. Let's make When we lived, Dress had an apartment in the Bronx on Theory and it was crazy. It was like a two family house. I believe Schoubiz lived downstairs. Downstairs. I had the upstain Dress at the upstairs. I was in v A and I wasn't even know bucking out, you know, getting bulls, getting in this bullshit. Gress was like, yo, come on, So he brought me. His son from North Carolina wasn't there. You know, he came for the summers, so he had to call back the racing car bad Yo, and it's funny that you say the finger popping like so much ship went down on the racing. She was amazing, Like that was the racing cloth back, got it. He'd be bringing all kinds you know like she was. You know, like his two stop strong level was out the room, you know, beyond beyond normal, and he'd be yo, man, this dude, I felt. I thought I thought I was nice with it, but um, yeah, yeah, she's she's exceptional. So let me actually just say, okay, saying something bad, but let me ask you to say the question um earlier, like so that how did you get down with native tone? Because it's like only I had your own careers, but then this was this was like your family outside of your family, so like how did how did you? How did it even start? I got damn? I'm from call Ops, sitting in the bronx. Okay, I guess, you know, just hanging out outside. I was let twelve, you know, after school on weekends, Alison and Keith of the Safari Sisters, they used to dance for our teeth. It was like one summer they had their own apartment because they all knew my my older brothers, you know, from high school, from Truman and all that. So I was like little. I was a little cheap little brother Troit little brother. So it was once something. Allowed used to always that's summer. She used to be there and everybody, like everybody used to be there, like from Special. Let you say, Latifa used to be there and um you know, she was staying with her dances and it was just like that was like the party house, like and you gotta remember this is like the late eighties, so Latif is Latieth for empty lights there everybody Special led epmbs like saying, but they say, we was like yeo, this ship is little over, you know what I mean. And I was just little cheat and I used to I guess I just knew Alice was a little I was pat like twelve, you know what I'm saying. Like I used to be the little old nigga just having holding their cracks, like just through and this before I had to record out, like they had Alison and Keeper's house. It was like it was like the hip hop hangout. So I used to just be hanging out. They needed something from the store, you know, if they're going to smoke weed, they'd be like cheating the room, you know, what I mean that type thing. But and so Chris was always there and being at there was so many chicks. Christ and Shot Kim was like the only dudes that was always there. So I always was cool with Christ and Shot and I guess because Chris was from the Bronx, we just clicked more. And then um I had asked Lock they had to shell big show at the at the Apolo. I asked her could I because she get me tickets and she was like, why don't you just come with us? And I was like cool. So when we get to the Apollo, I went with Chris and the Jungle Brothers because you know they was girls. They had to change and ship, you know what I mean. So I went with the Fellas and then I think Africa missed the flight from like London, so you know, Sammy and Sammy Be and Mike g was kind of figure out how was they gonna do the show and I just was like, let me run. They was like what, Like I didn't even know where she came from, because anybody now, I never wrote a rap like I think I had. I had my pap sent me to like African man classes and queens, like I think it was on Jamaica or Hillside that back in the day, and they used to make us write poetry. So I had like three or four poems. But you know, to me, I guess, poetry wasn't cool. So to me, they was my my little rap. So that's how I composed it. So um, Chris was like what you're gonna say? So I said to run and Chris was like word him and Mike Mike was like, not gonna be scared. I was like nah, it was like I Mike g called me out. And that was my first time performing. I rocked up polo. You know this is the skipped over that lord pollow the first performance. He said, that's so the was just like oh shorty, like the ship was at many club and no one cared. I'm like, I swear to go, like I never thought about rapping. I never It just it was meant to be, I guess. And when I got off the stage, the Jungle Brothers were still performing and Chris was like, yo, I just started the label on the son you You're gonna be the first person on song. But let me ask you, so when you hit that stage, what what was it? It wasn't the adrenaline or was it the people's reaction? Was it just the performance or what the book? Like, I was nervous, as Okay, that's true, that's that's adrenaline, that's saying. So the adrenaline definitely was floying. But I don't know, like I just I just went for minds, like, I can't tell you what it was. I just was like, that's called me. I just was like yo. But the crowd had to react. And that's what really, you know, what I'm saying made it pop because the crowd like really took to me. Let me ask. You know, you aren't your first shoes with comedy club. Nobody gave so. And I was dating two girls at the time. I didn't think either one of them would come, and they both came. And I was saying ship like I didn't think I was that and I was lit in the hood. But that's nowhere else, nowhere else. No one I was giving about me. So was it discouraging to you? No, it was, and it wasn't. It was discouraging because it was only people from my hood who kind of knew me and knew my words. But everyone who wasn't from the hood just looking at us like we was bozos and looking at us like who the funk are they? And they had not heard this new queen sound at the time. You know what I'm saying that we was we was was actually advanced. So did it discourage me a lot? Did I act like any discourage me? No, but it did discourage me. When you when you're going like this and the motherfucker ate moving that fucks you up. You're like, wait a minute, I seemed the actor came on before me. Look at you like it's always a hardcore dude word and it's just standing it because because he made it, he you doing his slot. That was so always that one nig though, but now it was all artists. There's no fans now it's really no I really got only fans. They should make up at no fans because there's no fans now everyone it's an artist. Everyone's a star. Like that's the reasoning about the filters, Like, you know, I wish that, you know, like when they post new music, I wish they didn't have likes, like like like you know, so that way, so that way, you know what I'm saying, You're not liking something because it's got a million views. I wish you don't have views. You know what I'm saying, Like, like, so that way, you know, like you keep the keep the stats, but just don't making public because there's so many cats that just like things. Because it's got a billion views, You're absolutely right, because like Netflix don't give out their numbers. But what Netflix do do is they'll put one, two, three, four or five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, So you're you're you're drawing to that even though they ain't putting numbers, Like if this ship is number one on netflicks, check it out. Yeah, yeah, so you're right, you're the same same thing, same in theory. You know what I'm saying, Like, Yo, if something's got a billion views, yo, you I'm like a billion people don't see this. I ain't seeing this. That's right, you're saying, like, yeah, what is you know saying you're automatically drawn to it and everybody that sees it is. But if if there's no views, if there's no likes, then when I hear something, I like it because I like it. But you know what I'm saying, I like it because it resonates. I like because it speaks to me. What I'm saying, it's not that it's popular, it's not that you know, this is the end thing and this is the next this is the prototype, this is the blue print. Not it's organic what I'm saying. And that's where all music comes from. I missed that aspect of our music because all of the records that exist today, they existed back then, you know, saying all a little ridiculous whatever over the top of the all of that, you know, wearing whatever that. No, No, the difference is that it was juxtaposed next to equality, you know what I'm saying, like like like there was you got. It wasn't French fries every day. You know, I'm saying, you had the choice French fries, steak, potatoes. You could be a vegan, you could be you know, you could be your meat lover's platinum. It didn't matter. But but you got a chance to make your own plate. Nowadays, it's just fresh. It's just all French fries. It's a little bit of the twist. Something is chili French fries. Some got cayenne pepper on them, some got pieces of ship it. But it's all fed. But it's but I take away the views too, because you can manipulate that, you know, because before it was word of mouth, it was people telling you this is dope, and then you listen to it. If it was dope, it was dope, you kept and you pass it off to your friends and you hold me, you copy the tape. Now an algorithm can dictate that, and that can be manipulated. And also I give the power back to DJs. I hate I hate that that music right now is what's the word um that when it's played everywhere syndicated again, it's programmed that the syndicated. The syndication sucks up up hip hop. It takes away our creativity. It takes the power out of DJ's hands. A d J in Baltimore or to be able to introduce the people of Baltimore to what's popping in Bolton saying yeah, yeah, yeah, people in Virginia need to know, Yo, this is you know what's going on here? This is a new cat from all the hood and and and and and each place gets a chance to champion what's what's what's what's coming to the service. But right now, everybody's playing the same record so much in degree that cats don't even feel like there a New York cat. Don't sound like a New York cat. He sounds like a syndicated cat. It ain't even about it ain't even about where, it ain't even about North southeast what he sounds syndicated. I think a lot of that I'm saying. The other day he was saying how the music today doesn't last, and I think that's why he said. But I think that's what what Dredge just said. I think that's why we're living in the McDonald's world. Everywhere you know, McDonald's friends ain't going, But we also got some real hip hop ship here right right, you know what I'm saying. And I want to bring my man Molecules from the Legion. Dress is Dress is popping. And he had his label One Love to Mercury through PolyGram and the Legion was the first group that Word of Mind introduced. Ques was with me from the beginning. Ques, actually we used to be walking to shows from Van Was you know you was actually road. I understand. I don't even like that's got the game when you defense is offense, you know what I'm saying. So I got to say, who point you know what got me? I got you? I got you. Let me just find some covering them are let me bring him in. Okay, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Really was that before the teacher to take over my shoulders? Now we gotta get into into the Black Sheep first album and like yes, yes, yes, yeah. Like I feel like, would you say that that's what you're drinking the Yeah, someone drink, we're taking shots the record. I'd like to keeping the Black owned. Basically, I'm talking shot. You want to drink, I want to shot? All right, let's do a shot. Kind of hurt me to say that you say syndicated it's her hip hop, because I feel like you're like, no, but that's a one record. You're talking about the sound overall and people yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, but yeah, I say, like just to just to real quickly there, the syndication I'm talking about is the same playlist that every radio station is playing. It's the cookie cutter ship. I just had a popular record saying that that radio stations chose to play. You know I'm saying, but the syndication is everyone that falls under the umbrella of what's the heart radio plays the same they all they all get the same list. Coconut coconup. Okay, you're saying like like every all of these DJ's on all of the power stations, they all get the same list, all of the whatever stations, they'll get the same list. That's what I'm talking about, Like they're taking the power out of DJ's and what more these playlists, Like I really believe there's an agenda, you know something, because the playlists aren't aren't health Like why aren't our playlists healthy? And yeah, like period, like like like the things that that the things that have the largest platform, every every radio station that has that, every power radio station, like like like what what do we what do we feeding these kids? You know what I'm saying, because at the end of the day, like like the prison system is really is really big business, and and and whose kids are they gonna put into prison? What do these kids listen to? Well, we don't want them to listen to things that are gonna put them on the path that a Chuck d or k r Rest might put them on, or even a native tongue might put them on. You know what I'm saying, like like like like how can we you know what I'm saying, basically keep the agenda as is well, basically, we can make sure all the radio stats is the plan this sheet of paper saying, and what's the one that the paper ain't healthy? I agree and disagree. I not feel like say one thing. Listen, our show is about bigging up all legends while they alive. We want to let you know that this is about y'all, the bringing in the holdie. After we do QuickTime with Slime and I want to say, y'all legends and we appreciate y'all. That's a little guy, Dad. That's a dred That's all. I mean, you know I'm a marijuana. But I think what Dreds is really saying is like back in the days, if we went to Clue or Red but the record, he would play it if he liked it or if he didn't like it, would it. But it's like you go to a DJ now when it's like, well yo, it's you know, it's program directors, and it's like yo, and what the funk you this one? Are you? You're supposed to be the biggest nigger in this state. Ain't play a record? You like? Yeah, lost their powers, right, it was powers at radio lost their powers. It still up. But but you certified crew. They don't got no um, no ties and no radio station, no ties and nothing, and they have their own following. Like I remember it, it's been bad if I made if I made who got that there are? But if I made one of those right, but if I made the ones that mattered when when the sound was being developed, was on the radio at night on weekends, and it was the biggest platform all music had. What I'm saying, So at the end of the day, So at the end of the day, let them other niggas be the lesson niggas. You know what I'm saying. All music needs to be creative, Our needs to be We need to be able to be able to We need to be able to do the things that that got us here. We're not even able to do the things that got us here. You know what I'm saying. Let the mother niggas be the be the niggas. Yeah, yeah, Well there's some other niggas that's doing some syndicated ship. They are whatever. They need to be the lesson niggas, not us. We're the ones that put it in the middle America's home. We're the reason niggas is getting the paper they get you know what I'm saying, and and and they and and and I don't dig the ag ism that cats trying to play in hip hop, especially when you know what I'm saying, this is my word. Like yea, if you've been a mechanic for twenty years, you're messing mechanic. You've been taking taekwondo for thirty years, twenty years, you have messed a taekwondo a third day and teacher. If you've been a chef, your master chef, yo, these kids cannot compete. Just kidding, how you gonna watch? How you gonna wah chefs at all nicest? You know what I'm saying, like like like I got I got, I got I like that you don't. As a DJ, I gotta say, going back to the DJ conversation, there was the era that and wronger right, the era that that I'm coming from. DJ we dictated to the audience what was dope R. That's what I'm saying. It's different now the audience is telling the DJ. But we're not gonna think. Let me just tell you something. You're right to a certain extent. It's like me, like one of my favorite DJ, DJ Camillo, Right, No, DJ Camillo on the radio is playing a record for five to fifteen seconds. You watch him in the club, he's gonna tell that same record down. So what I'm saying is to me, that's still a DJ to me because he knows how to play it and he knows how to sneak it in between these other top forty records that are accepted not everybody's. But this is what I said. I said, I said, they still exist. But you know what, do you know what I want? I wonder, I wonder how many DJs will be playing this ship though? How many these will we will be playing the ship that they're playing if it wasn't on that list on a real say, how many of these money fun money? Don't you can't give me money to pay that? You know I'm saying this, This is still real DJ's out there flexible to sell on money man, FLEXI money. You know what I'm saying, Like like you know, at the end of the day, I'm not speak on that at all, just to say, you know what I'm saying, like flexa I don't know, like this is my word, like like and I'm not shouting Flex'm not, but but I'm but I'm but I'm telling I'm telling everybody right now, just shouting flex because you know what I'm saying. I don't. I don't know what flex is doing, but I'm not seeing that. But I do notice for a fact that that any could be anything could be circumvented to be whatever it needs to be. I'm saying it might not be paper the way you get paid. You know what I'm saying. But but don't think that somebody's not getting paid because because because because you don't see the transaction. You know, I assgue with you as well. But I'm telling you I've seen people come with bags. Yeah, yeah, I get it. I get it. If he don't like the record, he will not do, doesn't doesn't have that, doesn't have a marketing company. I know exactly what you're going with it. Again, he's uh company, market company? Yeah yah, yeah, yeah yeah, I just had a market the company. If he had market I felt one point he had a marketing company. You don't talk to me, Yeah, you get your marketed. Yeah, don't talk to that. I say, I say that that could be true. It's not even there no more. So that's how them telling you. But I'm just saying ship worked. I had a great relationship with him. We were like this at one point when I was platinum and I had that man a record. We're good, he said, Doria ain't sucking with this ship. It was nothing not gonna offer him. I couldn't offer him a free performance at the tunnel. He wasn't fun with that record. Then I came back two months later gave him a record after this shoot out in front of Night seven. I don't know nothing about I can't even give him the record. I couldn't even physic like make eye contact with him because I wasn't allowed in the building, so I had to give him the record. Dude, I can't even say a window. It was a door. So we didn't physically make eye contact. Like I just seen his hand and he's seen my brown skin hand. If he just had to guess that we was each other, it was like we was in jail, like you know what I'm saying. Put and you could tell he played, he could tell his his his confidence in me wasn't it you know what I mean. I wasn't sure Flex was a big fan of me or not. I know he respected me and I respected him. But then he played the record, and he played for two seconds. Homeboy. I came the party and then he single handedly stopped that motherfucker and was like, I'm sorry, Nor because he knew he had funt of him. He knew he treated me like like the guy asking for change, you know, downstairs, and he gave me the change like this, like you know what I mean, like like this. So I would say that to say in his defense, where he liked something, you ain't got to give him nothing. He's gonna get behind it. He gonna he gonna because he's gonna put hip hop first. And I know I'm my personal experience as far as bread right, this is my word flex. I've known flex. I remember I gave this chick some party people big pick up this Sally. Sally was man cool. I get Sally the Valleys, gave Salad some paper. She had an all girl crew, gave us some paper. They had original Flavor perform there at the party. You know what I'm saying, And and and and I didn't have nothing to do it just front of some paper, you know what I'm saying. But I came by the party and I'm saying it was dope, original flavor performance, saying at the table this young jay Z and Ski and all them, they saying at the table rocking, you know what I'm saying, And I probably a little hot because I probably should have rocked with him. But I was just taking it all in the high, you know what I'm saying. Until she comes up to me and she's like, Yo, they fronting on me downstairs. They won't pay me, And I'm like, work like, you know, like I ain't n up do with it. I gave her paper, she got the spot herself. But the record is blazing hot at this at this moment, so I'm like, Yo, come on, come on out, says show me now stays. So I go downstairs with Sally. You know what I'm saying. Some Italian cats are but they looked young, you know, saying um in the office as a bunch of paper on the table, I walk in. I just grabbed the tape. I just grabbed the paper, like yo, this this your paper, right, And she was like yeah, So I just grab the people. I was like, Yo, what's what's up with y'all? Know what I'm saying. They're just looking at me like, you know, like what are you doing? I was like, yo, she she ran into the spot from yall right this you got a spot from right. So they're like yeah. So I'm like, okay, well I just saw I take my paper out and and just as I'm counting my paper out, Flex comes down. She haird Flex. This is we're probably one of Flexes, probably one of his first gigs literally in the city. Flex come down and he's loud like, yo, who who will paying me? Though? Who are paying? So? So I'm like, yeah, yeah, same Flex. So I'm like, yo, how much you get paid? Three hunted three hundred that's how early this how early it was in his career. Three hund three h gig. You know what I'm saying. I count three hundred dollars out of the paper. I give it to him. He doing gigs for a ounce of weed this time. Make out that it was my little paper out and I gave the rest of sally. That's the general. Was we good? They ain't saying nothing. I ain't saying nothing. No, That's how I played out. Now we gotta go back to what I was asking you. The choice is yours talk about that record, the making of it, and did you know it was gonna be as big as it was. Um. The making of it was kind of cool because like, you know, like we just came off Flavor of the Month, which I thought was like really creative. I thought Flavor of the Month should have been like one of the biggest singles in hip hop, just because I really thought like it was just this really creatively done joint and it was just bright was a break record, Um, but Nordy by Nature gave it a real kicking ask and with an O P P. You know what I'm saying, Like like like like we're going head and head and I feel like they kind of got us with that. So our next single, we was like, you know, like like we really gotta we really gotta put something that just is undeniable what I'm saying, But like, because I wrote a play of the Month was undenival and a little bit too. I think the way long Intro did kind of left a little bit of funniness in my mouth and a few other people's mouths. So that was kind of it was it was a little bit understandable why everything just wasn't a mind. So now let's get everything aligned with this next single. So we choose to do the choices yours. I write three whole new verses. Long is gonna do a remix when Long comes with this track that has the baseline, and when one comes to the track that we you know now know its choice is just my word, Like I had never heard anything like this in my life. Like I looked at him like like almost like he was a Martian, like a free Like, Yo, how the fund did you do? What is it? What is it? You know I'm saying, And then you know, listening to it again, listen to it again, and all right, So I got three new verses. I laid three new verses on it, and I'm feeling like, Yo, this ship is crazy. You know what I'm saying, Um, we give it to Mercury. Mercury's like, you know, what's it's? I but, um, you know this baseline it's cool. But the real, the real remix should be keep the first two verses from the original and this engine engine number not like make that the remix makes Let's just make that. They told you to take that out. They told me, they told me to take out the first two verses. I wrote three new verses. It told me to leave the first to put them the side and just just add this third verse? Did just say that that? And you know when you're young and somebody tells you something this, this is what y'll do. Yeah, that's what you'll do. You're something, just what we're gonna do. Let's do it. I argue, all right, cool, let's do it. And it clicked, you know, it literally click. And I remember us being in the studio and I remember um turning along. We're mixing it, we're mixing and playing aloud in the speaker, and I just turned along and I'm like, yo, man, like I don't know what we just did, but I know we just did something like meeting and nowadays words, that's what you mean honestly, Like I was hoping it was, you know what I'm saying, because you know, like in hip hop, hip hop could be kind of funny sometimes, you know what I'm saying, Like you could you could know something that's just amazing and be like yeah what yeah you know? So you know, like so you know, but I think at this particular point, I was I hadn't really gotten that humbled yet, you know same whares. I was like, yo, I knew, I knew this year I knew we did something. You know I'm saying, But did I know that thirty years later, you know she would be and join the Fighter Verse record? You know yeah, you know, like it's it's like every three to five years, this record gets a rebirth of a major magnetude and it introduces it to a younger generation. And you know it's now like you know, I literally have you know, grandkids singing this song, not just kids, not just you know, you know, like it's it's become multi generational, you know what I'm saying. And I already see where where it's being played for infants type ship like and I'm like wow, Like you know, it amazes me. And one of the dopest things about this to me is is that I get to be a part of my children's lives when I'm not here. You know what I'm saying that Like that means it makes so much to me, you know, saying like like like I don't come from that, I don't I don't come from anybody giving me anything. You know, I'm saying, regardless of who, what, where, how Okay, hold on, you can drink right now, you got anybody? Hold on real quire we end this on on for artists listening and the business side of it. How was that set up for you? Do you still eat off that record? You got to go back to that. I was gonna go back with the quick time Hold on, Hold hold. We were talking about let's stay with it because everything did you you were young and doing that record. Did did you guys do everything right? So that record that lives today and we'll live on forever does benefit your children and your children's children. UM, thank god, um, thank god we did um Like we didn't. We didn't maximize the situation to the degree that like the deal wasn't a fair deal book, whereas monetarily we didn't. We didn't take a number we should the number we took. They got paid in full the very first check, very first, first, very first, the very first publishing check that came in three months later that comes were recouped from what they gave us, recruited very first, the label put into it for anybody, the very first check. So they've had number props thirty years. We was recouped very he was never in the red, always in the green, because that's what they say. Oh well, they tried, they tried to. They you know, like you know, they're gonna try that's that's the game. They we went gold like immediately, and they to this day if you look up my record, they would probably still try to say it's just gold. You know, I'm saying, like, but with a record like that, I'm saying, like, you know, like, but that's the album when gold is what you're saying the album, but that record, but even the album we went, we went, we went. The album went gold the first uh six seven months, it's platinum, multi platinum already, yeah, I'm saying, but it's still listed as the gold record. You know what I'm saying, right right right there, And that's where they stopped at nothing something I'm saying, So moving forward now right right right right right right, so so moving forward right so moving forward anything that has to be done. They throw that out hoping that that's the gauge you're you're cool with, you know, any other gage requires you sending someone in there, you know what I'm saying. But you know, I'm from the yo, like like if anybody learned I learned from y'all, alright, that sends somebody in there, you know what I'm saying, Like I'm quick like, I gotta like a commercial choice. The choice m hm na, you know the mics are just so check it. We're gonna get back to that because I want to. Um. I got a lot more questions of that. Um. But this is a game we played quick time and slim. Being that you're not drinking, you're gonna put it all on cheeste. Is that okay? It's all only come on you. You're here to have fun, got damn it? All right, cool, but we're gonna drink with You're gonna drink with you, so I'm a professional grabbing other water mother place it alright? Cool? All right, So this is how the game go. Don't give you two choices. You can pick one of the other, that's cool. But if you pick both, then Ustin she got to drink. Yeah, we're all drinking. If you pick neither, we gotta drink. It's politically correct. We're drinking. But if you get politically correct, we drink. But if genuinely you mean both, yeah, genuinely you mean both. Right, So you're ready, you're ready? She keep okay that over there. She let me know he might be driving, like, yo, don't do too much. Cool, you're ready all right, Biggie or jay Z Right, it's easy. You're gonna take that big of a shot. You can take a regular shot. I just shot for this farm. You're gotta take the shots. Yeah, yeah, it's better. It's better that way. It's kind of okay. Would you about to say? I think I think it gonna be a long one. And I think both of them are mad cool. I like I know them both, but I don't know neither of them. Well, you know what I'm saying, But I but but I've had the play as you of of of being you know, someone that bumps into them for for years and years, and like I used to bump in the I used to bump in the big and he'd be with Seeds and Kim and I'd be with Cheat and it might be times square like three four in the morning, you know what I'm saying. Like, and we stopped, you know what I'm saying, And we swop for like a half an hour. You know what I'm saying, I ain't gonna kind of blowing each other up. Must just go all the way, you know, like you know, like because because they were like kids, you know, over him seas and and uh, Kim, you know, like you know, like you might have a litt puppy eyes creature. I don't remember, but you know, just to say, like but me and but me and Big, you know what I'm saying, Like we were we were trying to figure it out, you know what I'm saying. I remember the first time I met Big. Big came up to me on the show in Virginia and he walks up to me. It's Big comes and I just finished rocking. He comes up and I'm standing in the club and he walks with me, stands next to me. He's like, I don't know who he using nothing, And he's like, Yo, I'm just gonna stand because I know I know the bitch is about to be right here. I just started dying laughing like yo, you know, like like and you know, like like Big was funny, like he was genuine sounds like you're going, Big, Um, see how you did said that. I was gonna say the little things I knew about j you know what I'm saying. But you know, like like is a different, different kind of character. But I'm I guess I have to go with Jay just because of of the opportunity that life afforded him. Okay, you know what I'm saying, all right, Queen Latifa or money Lave, Oh, I'm gonna go with I'm gonna go a lot. Yeah, Okay, damn I love both. But you know yeah, okay, big all big punt. Oh, that's a good one. You gotta drink. That's a good one. We don't mind. You can punish us, you can punish us. Let me keep it a buck punned by the hair, by the hair on my tooth. Okay, pun was was beyond special. Um And this is my word, like like cat's no, punk was special, but cats don't really speak to the depth of how special punk was. That was special. That was the word Smith l was dead nice for his but the depth of punt Okay, that was nowhere near. Okay, and that's the difference for me. Okay, the Brons took queens. Okay, good looking brothers gonna take that because I took you with were relocated. Let me keep it up. I got I got a lot of love for the Bronx, and the Bronx embraced me. And you know what I'm saying, But this is my word, like Queen's raised me. You know what I'm saying when I when I was on aland A thoughts from Brooklyn. You know what I'm saying, that's the result of queens. When I was down South state, you know, like everything everything that anybody ever thought, you know what I'm saying, for better or worse was a result of queens. Que tip off for Rell tip easily. Okay, Yeah, I knew that fix, but I know you. I know for Roles every hard for me though too. Okay, But this one, I don't know where you're gonna go with Jongo Brothers update lost so um yeah, that that one, I can't alright, alright, so we gotta drink drinking. We gotta drink either cheer that one. You've been feeling good though. We're on one like mostly everybody even wanting to be politically because because because to me, it's like it's like it's like picking your favorite kid or picking you know, your favorite when this game is fos, it's like should drink for you? You're drinking this We were go get killed too, but we're going with cher right now. The tunnel or Latin Quarters. Um, I'm gonna go with Latin Quarters because not not not And like they were they were both. They were both Yo can say you'll Latin quarters story, please get let's get into it, let's go, and it's my word. I'm not sure, that's so so so so I'm gonna put a curse on this. I'm not sure. One night I leave, i leave the Bland Projects. You know, say, I'm hustling and the band in Queen's. Normally I'm hanging out with my dudes, like we'd all go to a spot, you know, saying together, like you literally keep ol J on the whole literally like we're all young hustling kids. So we got little those I don't know old j as a cap service, right right, right cool because everyone but you know, like we're young hustling your kids, so you know, like we're in range of of seeing maybe a g a day as as young hustlers, which in the eighties is a lot of money. You know what I'm saying, Like Bentles is my spot, Yeah, the Red Parrot, Like you know what I'm saying, Like I'm a I'm yeah, I'm all over you know what I'm saying. And I'm coming right out right out of the Bland Project. You know I'm saying, but I've run with a real cool crew and you know, like we hitting up spots together and it's nothing for us to spend five to seven eight hundred dollars hanging out. So um, so uh, this particular story is uh, I'm I'm almost Black Quarters. Like yeah, no, no, no, I was about to tell you. I'm like, yeah, this particular story, Um, nobody wants to hang out with me this name, and I want to go to land Quarters, you know what I'm saying. So I take a cab by myself. I take old j by myself. And the way I'm dressed, you know, I got a little jewelry on I got you know, I might have had maybe a little make up maybe whatever it was. I didn't have to I didn't have to wait. You know what I'm saying. I woke by. I woke by the front and I kind of not you know, at the security they opened up to the opening. Let me cool. So now I'm in. You know, I'm saying like paying was an issue, Like you know, I'm saying, I'm in. So now I'm standing by myself, just taking it in, you know, And I do this from time of time. I would leave the projects and just go to different plugs. I go to roseland and catch tricky tea and you know, and things. You know, just by myself, you know what I'm saying, because hip hop is young and you know, I just love it like that. So I'm in a spot and this dude walks up with me and he's like, yo, true and I'm like, oh, ship, this nigga has no idea who I am. But he's adamant true true, Yo, I ain't seen you since that out of that and I'm like, yo, I'm not true. He's like what he's looking at me. He's like, Yo, this is my word. I thought you Yo, you look just like my man. You know what I'm saying, You look just I ain't seen him since blah blah blah. Yo, Yo, you're bugging me out. You look so much like him. And I can see he's getting crazy paper, just dudes getting you know, like he's beyond heavy crazy, you know, maked out this and he's like getting crazy paper. I'm like, oh, you know, like now I'm not dude. So he wants to see, like, yo, get some champagne from one of his dudes. He's gonna sit down. He was a talk he's like, Yo, it's too loud in here. Yo, take a ride with me. Man. I'm like what He's like, yo, take around me. So I'm like, all right. We walked out the club, he got the Bens park right in the front, were getting the bens. We're driving around. He started driving up. He's home the Alto. Is this you're just my word? I honestly think it was. He starts showing me blocks and he's like, you know, like, yeah, this is this. You know we can do this here, we do this here, my mom's holds down this and like I don't know if that was in this story or not, but this stupid this cat tells me my mom's holds down this. And you know what kind of gunning you like, my mom's gonna get the guns? Is that you like? Like? And I'm like, you know, like I'm hustling at the time. But he's talking about ship. That's you know, like I'm from I'm from Queens, you know what they like? Like he's talking about Big Hall and ship right there, and I'm like, um, we're don't back to your club. Like He's like, I just wanted to show you, you know, Like, Yo, I'm gonna put you on, like you know you you're about to be right. And so you know, we dropped back down to the club and he walks right back the same spot, same help, same by right there in front. We walked back in. They opened it up some as they see him. Now he starts walking me to his crew. He's got niggers in there. We left his people. He's about maybe six seven dudes. But one thing I noticed about everybody is that everybody's everybody's cut. Everybody's got cut, you know what I'm saying. And I'm like heart like everybody everybody got a buck. Everybody got buck and Shane you're saying, and everyone, every single one. And so now I'm looking at like, you know, I'm young and pretty. I'm like, you don't want to get I'm like, you know, like I don't know for you looking at your friends, you know, you know, like you know, and and it's my word, you know. Like he gave me his number and all that ship and I never called him or nothing like that. Like I was content with what I was a little bit of that I was able to do. A g day was plenty in my world, you know what I'm saying. And you know, like but to this but to this day, the energy I remember the dude's face to send the other that was. So i 'm gonna say lant quar okay, um Brand Newbian or trialal quests. M h m hm wow, that's that's that's ready. We got our shots ready, Um let me get us some room, chick. Ready. We ain't gotta overthink it now. You could. You could just say both we get on our married way, but you gotta mean both. If you mean I'm gonna I'm gonna say trial, okay, closer, and the means I'm gonna say trial is this I'm I can look at I can look at um their debut albums. On their debut album, I'm gonna give it. I would give it. I would give it to Brand Newbian. But if I look at their bodies of work, you know what I'm saying. If I look at the criteria right right, if I'm looking at their body of work, then um, at some point, tribes steps ahead of Brand Nubian. You know what I'm saying. And and and it's pretty clear Brand Nubians debut was definitely a superior one to tribes, but ultimately tribe went on sasonically just become a monster. Could I ask the question, what's Trib's biggest record? I've never looked at it like talking about numbers or like the biggest record. So I think world talk, world talk. Can I kick it any bigger? Because I see commercial scenario. I don't know Google that. I think it's I actually think it's something that's newer than in their catalog. Okay, but do we get that answer. Let's let's move on. Okay, this one, I don't know. We're gonna go Dr Max a Tupac. That's actually easy for me, Dr Max, I gotta ask what you know what right there? Yeah, he's ready for me. No, no, no, no, I mean kills Ques might need to be here like like like see it's like this, like and certain people, certain people are gonna understand exactly what I'm saying, a lot of people are not gonna understand like what I'm saying. Okay, Um, like I was around Pock you know what I'm saying, and you got to talk about that? Yeah? Yeah, I mean you know she was when me went up when when we met it was at festival in the lake in OpenD. You know, I'm saying we wanted up hanging out an extra day of what pockets. This is the park where he won that underground pockets sweet Definitely did you on the ground Okay, okay, but he definitely got some weed. But he I feel like at the time he was kind of transitioning. Ye, he's about that's where he was. Definitely definitely show he was. He was just got a baby pup. Okay, that's what That's where he was. He wasn't it was no longer a backup dancing, not because he was too Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, he wasn't back up dances, going't gonna you know, having somebody grabbed your ance week friends got a baby yogo geb on. Then some week that's we met because it was because it was loud. But you know what I'm saying, and you know, like I got I got love for Pop. You know what I'm saying, Like I got a lot of love for a lot of brothers. You know what I'm saying. But if I made sometimes time bolster is the myth. Sometimes time bolsters what is good, and sometimes time diminishes everything else. Pop was. He was multifaceted, but he was far from intimidating. He was far from um. He was far from what people paint him as. On a daily very diverse. Some days he was an asshole, some days he was a brother to look up to. Some days he was a kid to slap in the back of his head. He was all of them things, you know what I'm saying, And all depending on who you were, would be how you know, really how you view them. You know what I'm saying, like this is my word, like everybody think they real to the real step in the room. Man, you know what I'm saying, Like like like he knew who to go out in my opinion, he he in my opinion. And it's not a shot at him in no way or his gangster or his lack of you know what I'm saying. But but cats, cats have an understanding of of what they're doing when they do it, very very calculated, very calculated. Um and and and and and a bit of an opportunists on a certain degree. I had love for him, and and and I think we respected each other for the most part, you know what I'm saying. But we've we had a couple of runnings a couple of times. You know, I'm saying, like one time at Travaga Squire were performer in Queens. Travaga Squire holds about maybe three four thousand people. Now it's in the heart of Jamaica. So the lineup is the Legion, Biggie and Tupaca. That's the line right, So there's about so to Tupaca is headlining and the Legion is opening and no way await who's you know? How was the how did it go? Y'all? Was? Yeah, uh no, Biggie was opening then then y'all then then they were supposed to be pop now because it's if it holds four thousand people, it's about maybe thirty nine hundred dudes in here, straight griming, straight hood. You know what I'm saying, Pop is mad nervous. And when I say nervous, mad nervous, like yo, like something's gonna happen. Here's too many niggas in here. It's that any other y'all. I'm I'm gonna jump on with Big so I can get out of here. And I'm like, YO, hold up, man, wait a minute, wait a minute, like Yo, the Legion is a new group, man. Like if you jump on with Big, everybody's gonna think that's it and they're gonna be heading to the door, like at least you know what I'm saying. Let um my, dudes rock. You know what I'm saying. And you know I said, if anything, if we need to switch or whatever we need to do, I said, but don't jump on with big energy to be out Like it's almost like he almost almost playing a little bit. But at the end of the day, I don't I don't want to go there, you know what I'm saying. But he's like, yo, no, you know, like if they I don't want I don't want to catch any flak for anything. I'm like, Yo, my dude, if you act cool, NIGGAS is gonna act cool. If you act nervous, NIGGAS is gonna be acting nervous. If you act like there's an issue, your energy is gonna let there be an issue. But if you act like we're a bunch of brothers that came together to to to hang out with you, then that's what it's gonna be. You know what I'm saying. I don't know, man, I don't know, Like he's just man nervous, is right. So we're all getting ready for the show. Now mind you, he's being held down by a stretch money back. I'm saying, yeah, yeah, lot squard young girls, but just say like this is this is family. This this is my family more than his. He doesn't realize this, you know what I'm saying. And I've never spoken to it, you know what I'm saying, But I've been in the room with Stretch when he's sleeping until the sun came up. You know what I'm saying, like like like like this is I don't know hust Like I don't been around cats eons. You know, I'm saying real New York cat. But cats wouldn't know it because you know they all they heard was Carolina. It's so good. So he's gonna jump on the promoters like yo, Pocket is gonna jump on a big man and it's gonna sunk up the set for y'all. I hope, I hope to cant everybody stays. So now I'm a little just disappointed, and I'm like, yo, dude, like you really act, can a bit you right here? Like yo? So I go in the back of the dress room and whereas had it probably been anybody else, they probably couldn't have got by niggas. But these are all niggas I grew up with, you know what I'm saying, Like, Yo, what up? Without stretched? What up? Niggas? You know I'm saying. So I walked right up to him, and nobody's gonna say nothing to me, and I'm like, Yo, the fund is wrong with you? Like Yo, we already talked this and the other, like you know, like and he's just acting like like he's turning his head like you know, like he doesn't want to like just be accountable for what it is, Like, Yo, we together. Why you always gotta fucking you know, saying like in my head, it's like certain cats allowed sometimes when they don't need to be and and I've probably been guilty of it. In this moment, I felt like he was guilty of it, you know what I'm saying. I felt like, you know, like, yo, my dude, like you know, like you just took a lot of ship that you know, like that you don't necessarily what all the time, you know saying. And I kind of pressed him a little bit and the niggas, you know what I'm saying, And everybody's kind of stopping looking, and he still jumps on with Big and he's ready to get out of there, and it said that stop. That night at Allegendary Freestyle, We're Big, he jumps on with Big and before as he's getting off the stage, as him and Big and get up stage before they could get off the stage, I've run up on the stage before people start turning around, because, like I said, no one even knows who the legion is. No one even knows I'm near, you know, I'm saying, bringing them out. So I run up and I grabbed the mic and I was like, Yo, that was cute. I was real cute. I was like, but you're ready for the real show, you know what I'm saying, Like you know, And I wasn't the ship on Big, and I wasn't even a ship on him. But I was just to say, like, yo, don't be leaving the energy or funked up, like like it's us, Like you know what I'm saying, Ain't nobody in here gonna get hurt but us. If you're not controlling the shift, you're not on but I but I, but I get mad at the Natives for the same ship. But if you're not controlling the ship, you're talking about controlling the fund is you doing? Don't leave Ship funked up for us? So I jump up on stage. I'm like, yo, you're ready for the real for the real show now, yo, y'arder the leak, you know. So I got cast turned around and cubes or testing like ques was there when I went in the dress room. You know, niggas was like, oh, Ship, did that just happens? And and and but but you gotta understand this too, Hocket his mind side. He's smaller than me. I just come in, brother, break the rules. Let's just do it. Come on. I wanted to finish with Yeah for you, I don't because I don't want it. You bring up to name, It's like it's like it's kind of hard to tell you don't want it. It's kind of hard to tell something if it's not so, you know, in that night, like I understand what dress is saying dress? He had this image is how he moved It was fights. That's the part you left out. Yeah, maybe he felt a vibe that was like queens niggers getting it in this corner. That fight would break up this this dude over here he got cut in the face in biggest deep his Brooklyn dudes. We deep with our you know, bronze dudes. So we're like this is normal. By the fifth fights, Pockets like I'm ready to get out of here, and that's when Dress with to say. You know, Dress was like, yo, you just you know, put this energy out like you're tough and you ain't scared, Like why are you why are you leaving? What's what's going on? This is And that's what I wanted to put in it because Dress left their part out fighting. Yeah yeah, I mean yeah, but I mean, you know, just to say like Killings was you know, Kings was privy to a lot as well, like to our walks and you know he's around. He was a rails of real dudes right from left right. Yeah, he came out and told us before. By the third fight, he was like, yo, he's ready to get out of here. And that's when Dress went back there like yeah, I'm gonna talk to him because we was cool with Big and Big like this is normal, not right Big by that by this point, you know, like this is this is well after me meeting Big, I don't seem Big around and you know what saying like I said, we're not cool but we respect each other. You know, I'm saying, like, you know, like we don't have each other number, but ain't no time that we see each other that we don't stop and talk for a few minutes. You know, you know, you know how it is what I'm saying. Especially when we young, got a lot to sasteron, so you know, like we wasn't really in the mingling cruise a lot, you know, saying like you know, everybody kind of stood on their own. Yeah, I know, I know, you know, I don't know because because yeah, because y'all are stand off ship. You know what I'm saying, Like, you know, it is what it was. I think as we got older in the industry, we we became more understanding of of we shire space with strangers. We're really not strangers. We might not, we might not. Me and you have never spoke on the phone. Me and you met one time, Ruby briefly, But me and you aren't strangers exactly, you know what I'm saying. Exactly why do we look at each other like that? Like? Why is why is our energy like that? When we young? What I'm saying, and I was one of the problems in hip hop. What I'm saying like, don't get it twisted. It still still still, it's still still. But at the end of the day, you don't get twisted. Yeah, we should be able to We should be able to verbally jeouse without question a matter of fact, should be mandatory get some of these dead weight out here. But this is at the end of the day, at the end of the day, Like we're taking a TV break over there, Morris, I was like, shot, well do that. But you know what I'm saying about. But I wish, I wish, I wish. One of the things that's really you know that we grow up and we start really seeing is how how they how they systemically divide us. Let me say one thing because I want to get through this with fast. So your par um, how did how did your relationship in prior to his death? Because that was one part, right, A lot of people say that this it's like ten different parts, right, Like there's some people who like, what the most positive brother I ever seen, And there's some people like, that's the most negative brother I ever seen. There's some people that be like, that's the most wildest whatever, and as the softest brother I ever seen. So how did you did you have a link with him again after he went on death row, like after he got on death because it seems like he was a different dude when he got a death row. Did you see him after that? Yeah, Like you know what I'm saying, Like, yeah, post Papa's multifascinating what I'm saying. And you know, like sometimes sometimes I adored him sometimes in conversation they're saying, sometimes sometimes I have a conversation with him. Was was very dope, was very cool and and and he been after death roparc Um, after death roparc I think he had an agenda, you know what I'm saying. And let's remember that was a short time game, like a long but his time death row was very short and there was a lot going on around that too. That cats I think, you know, sometimes don't put into the equation because he had a vendetta against New York? Did you mo out for me? He was always silent with me, But I think a lot of that I was so I was a lot younger, So I was like a kid. You know what I'm saying that he wasn't a kid when But why do you say he had a vendetta against New York when he was trying to do that. He had new Young records for me. But he said, well, you say what I mean that ride? What do you mean that that's we were shocks in that valley, that's ride. What do you think that meant? Hey, guys were cool? I mean he was a champion death Row East. This is it was the same with me, Like, I don't really I don't think gave me that. I don't think he was a champion death Row. I think there was people that he was again Row East. Is that even a thing? No, it was a thing, really it we I mean it was right, No, it wasn't. It was I didn't do anything. Amy never got off the ground and never got That's where when when pocket nosupposedly met in Battery Park in New York City, That's what supposed to picket signs were saying. Because I believe they hired a lot of West Coast people that was with them, but they also hired people that was in town and he was he was doing down as well. There was insourcing, so you know what I'm saying. So they had people that was actually head from East Coast. The East Side a nation album with with Dug Down with Buckshot and Black all those guys up. I mean, I don't. I don't see it as clear cut as fucking York from from him. Absolutely, yeah I did. I mean yeah, I mean you know what I'm saying. I mean yeah, yeah, that's because he attacked Queens. Man. No, he ain't attacked Queens New York. He definitely did attack New York. He listened. At the end of the day, if I got beet listening because I'm not I'm not disappointable. I was actually a fan of Park. But I just I can't. I can't deteriorate history. I can't change history. At the end of the day. If I got beef with this cup, right, I got beef with this cup. The minute I say the cup and great Rock and and and I and a spade, everything that goes everything that goes through, that's what that's that's that's bad because the end of the day, these guys can be talking to them and say your chill the chill Cup, like like you can work this out. They can work this out, Cup. But but now when you say funk him, fuck him, funck him and fun him, these guys conversation with the cup now is different. They're saying, forgive him, but I don't really him. If you don't, I don't really care, you know what I'm saying, because he already got at me and I know a bigger cup because you know, you know, you know the crazy shit is. I was just listening to Snoop Dogg, and Snoop Dogg said he had this new he had the new found found respect for Fat Joe. When Fat Joe actually stepped to ice Cube in Farra Caran's house, they're all on the place to piece, They're all in the place of you know, no one can't do no one's doing nothing in the Farer car house. Just be clear. It's gonna break you up, put you in the pre and the fool Nelson like you've never been in before. Trust me. So he stepped to ice Cube because this is when ice Cuble was on the West Side connection. So fat so Snoop this Snoop story, by the way, Snoop just describes it as like Fat Joe stepped to him, was like yo, I was disappointed, Like we held you down when when the West goes home, he shipped on you and you came to New York and you let Chuck d and the people, How the fun did you do this? Like? How did you do that? So Snoop said, wow, like he had a whole new respect kind of respect for that. So that's that's what I'm trying to say, is like Pop ran with y'all in New York, like he literally I mean like, I mean it was in the same sectors, same sectors. How did they feel when you're just bumping to him? Though? But but but I would seeing how do know something? No, what I'm saying is how did they feel like him? Because like he got a record call? This is crazy. The other day, I was just walking and I listened to a record call he got Ain't nothing like the old school and he breaks down New York with Skelly and how the parties, And I'm like, this is really a New York nigger. Then the very next record come on CALIFORNIAA Love, And I believed them in both records. I said, only ship West Coast, trying to do my West Coast. I can't. I ain't gonna walking. But it was like something like it. You know what I'm saying. You obviously believe him in Juice too. You don't want to go there. A lot of people say changed after Jersy. So when you've seen the death row pocket, it was a different type of energy. Yeah, you said it was the same energy, even defferent when when me and his relationship always the same. What I'm saying, that's one of the last times I've seen is in the Diamond District. I'm by myself. He's like about fifteen dudes. Some of the dudes he's with. I don't think he realized he's who's He knew that he knows who he's with. Brooklyn people, Umolyn issue. But a couple of you know, you know, a couple of hands that was that definitely understand if if if he wasn't shopping for if everybody wasn't shopping he was, he was out of pocket. You know what I'm saying, And and and if you know, and those that know know why you know what I'm saying, Like you know, like like you don't, you don't you don't wolves aren't you know what I'm saying, show dogs. You know what I'm saying. You don't run with wolves acting like you know, like you're taking a walk in Central Park. That's not what wolves are. Four says a little rough now too Yeah, it's not that rough, you know what I'm saying, Like he's running around the Diamond District and you know, I'm sure he's getting whatever he's getting that for his new walk, you know what I'm saying, because I remember when it was you know, the punched out oozy rings and uh, you know the stuff that was pretty Canal Street that like like that you really couldn't even really get in the room that the cats I knew was in. You know what I'm saying. And I'm not trying to shoot It's just the truth, you know what I'm saying. So you know, like like and that's not the ship on him to say, like you know, like he we all we all start where we start from. When we all grow it, we all grow to become who we're gonna be, you know what I'm saying. But but that's the But that's the type of things that I'm trying to say, Like Pop didn't understand certain things just about New York culture that a record wasn't really gonna facilitate, you know what I'm saying, Like, you know, like you're in the Diamond District with cats that come to the Diamond District to sell what they just just stole, you know what I'm saying, And and and and and and you come in there spending a ridiculous number, you know, in front of him, you know what I'm saying, and like like, those are the things that like that, those are the little things that aren't little that he would do regularly, you know what I'm saying. And like I said, like I've seen Pop do many things like that, many like like not. And that's not to shift on them. And that's not to say that he wasn't that he wasn't solid, you know, Pop, Pop, He was a lot of things, you know what I'm saying. But sometimes sometimes you know, like sometimes your little man needs to get checked. Sometimes your little man needs to get punched in the chest. Not all the time, sometimes your little man puts you on point. Sometimes your little man checks you, you know, like he was all of that what I'm saying. I just hope people can understand that because people only look at him as one thing. And you know it, you know, when you when you put somebody on a pedal stool, it's almost like when you found out, you know, Martin Luther King was getting some side ass. I was happy, Yeah, you know, like, yeah, deserve happy, deserved it. He said real quick. This is a person he was. Unfortunately he's not here from young young park that didn't mature like the rest of us are having same with Big And that's why I don't say anything out of respect when people revere him, I don't. I don't tell them some of the things that I know that might be in contrast, I don't really share those things because he's not here to have had the opportunity to become everything that they think is. You know what I'm saying, you know, like like like thank god we got the opportunity to go forward. You know what I'm saying, like to be better. You know what I'm saying, Like that that was for Parking Big two. That was for them too, you know what I'm saying. And you know, like that the boat, the bullshit that took place. You know what I'm saying, Like we're gonna we're gonna move. We're gonna move. That was man like he l l care arrest one's shock class two shot glass. That's a good one. I'm gonna I'm gonna go with these things, Queen Shall, I didn't even realize that I can tell you why, let me tell you what hel hell is? You is? You got on a bit And I'm not even gonna piggy back right now. I just say hell I was. She was what sixty seventeen years old? Carry death gym on their back on this back? Did you? Did you see him in Crush Groove? Just just is that when he had the radio, just his appearance and Crush Groove alone alone set the tune for the culture, like like like just the little snippet of L. L and Crushed Groove was harder than the sub Cats careers. Like like like he said the tune for hip hop that that was a B boy that came into the picture. You know what I'm saying, Like like you ain't ever seen it. I was a B boy that came in. Don't shoot him, Jay, That's just a B boy, you know what I'm saying. Like you know what I'm saying, like like like yeah, oh man, like you know, I got love for Chris Chriss and beasts, but but L L Yo, Yeah, like l L Alan Iverson, like you know as a kid, like you know, he came in when Cats was looking like you know, like flash and everything, and L just came in, you know, across the cats over like Nigga move over. Oh um, I gotta go with the guard right yeah, okay, yeah, you know Craik. Quick quick story, quick story. When I first when I first get back to New York, When I first get back to New York. Okay, I'm Carolina. First we get out of New York. Um. I'm not sure why I started hustling yet, but but I have been doing the music shipped down south, you know what saying? So, so I do want to be around hip hop. So I'm looking at the paper looking for a job. It's a job power Plays Studios. Queen's Queen, you know, right right right queens right, So I go with here. They hired me. I mean, my first record ive ever made the right right right? I haven't dot I doctor Rodriguez, work out get the best right. No, No, I haven't doctor. No, no, no, not Dr Butcher. They got um but just say um. So they hired me first day. I've never I've never worked in the studio nothing, you know, I ain't got no nothing. So I'm in a studio, power Play studio, going down the city. I'm sitting there. I ain't been in sitting at this desk for twenty minutes when the door opens up from studio a Rock Kim walks up to the desk, asked me for a light, give my light. I got my pocket. I give my lighter. He takes it, walks in the back, and I'm sitting there. I'm like, with my lighter. No, no, no, no, no, just beat. This wasn't pretty. I was like, yo, I put this fucking job out. I was first and the last day I worked there. I was like, yo, I'm gonna know Rock him, but I ain't gonna know him from sitting behind no fucking desk out of the studio. Well, and I put the job makes some noise for and I was like, yeah, like I just it just felt wrong. It just felt like, you know, like he just walked up short at me and took my lighter, you know, and took it. Word took my lighter, you know what I'm saying. And I was like, yo, I can't do this, you know, like I'm I'm gonna meet him, but I think it's gonna take dress lighter right now. No no, no, no, no no. It wasn't nothing to do with the light at all, Like like it was it was. It was. It was the presence of somebody that you know, saying like that I respected and and I was like, like, he ain't gonna respect me for having a lighter, you know what I'm saying, Like respect from someone you respected, right right right right? And I was like, yo, like like this ain't it. This ain't that? And I and I didn't even know if it was gonna be on some music ship or some street ship, you know, like like not even say on some some some rough ship, but on some he getting paper, you know what I'm saying, Like like I knew he'd respect that, you know what I'm saying, like else, but I knew he wasn't respecting And think he just tooks light like that's rock Kim like like like you know, like that's rock him, you know what I'm saying. And even then that's rock him. Okay, quickly kick or red alert okay, and kid could say red okay, locks are MARTI, um damn she. I hate to do this, see but water and I'm gonna tell you why it once again. I'm gonna tell you what it once again. Well, don't get twisted, don't get twisted. Pull your shots up brother, the locks are special or special special special as they come. Queen, the locks of specialists makes sense to me, y'all's sake, I make sense of it. Yo, this is my word debut album. Well, damn, that's not true. That's not real because because because because because my mom, they had had every miss hell hell yeah, So that's not really. They will be many because I'm looking at I'm looking at you know what I'm saying, um uh, the infermous. You're looking at the infamous. Yeah, as they did, a lot of people think that's the first. It's not the first, you know what I'm saying that the other one is dope too, believe it or not for the time, friends, Yeah yeah, not not not but but but but the infamous album. The infamous album is equivalent, is equivalent to illmatic. No. Infamous is often you know, saying the infamous message you know we no, we didn't know, we didn't did versus a solo. Let me tell you why, Let me tell you why we didn't. Let me tell you why I dressed If you look at you but out hell, ill magic had to come out for them to make the infamous, like like they had to their game up. Yeah, they had to see how NAS change the trajectory of the game for Infamous to be made infamous. Infamous came out clearly after Yeah, I'm working on at the same time. Changed all the way we rumb the way we looked like NAS. I got to give that to NAS, not taking anything away from more Deep. But but I don't think came out after it might have been working around the because I'm like like like like I don't I don't I don't see where I don't see. I don't see. This came out a year later. Yeah, yeah, yeah, right, there change expected for me. I respected, but but it felt like but it felt like the records were so close. You know what I'm saying, And I agree with you. I'm not disagree with you to tell you it Infamous wouldn't up without thematic, you know what I'm saying. I can't agree with that, just being honest, Like me growing up from queens Me from left Frack City, but a lot of my you know, I'm going to raise left right, but a lot of my cousins and friends and people that I associated with, people I played basketball with it from Queensbridge. Because I remember like there was a time where people thought like Queen's Bridge was corny or Queen's Bridge because of with care And I was like these things Gill, y'all, ye keep playing the fact that people think that ship like that. Fray didn't when Almatic drop to think that I was something else too, So I get it. I was in jail with Amatic Drop and I remember being so proud. I remember walking in the yard that day. I just walked different. I feel that I was like, I feel like, all right cool, I feel that queen queenship. That ship went out the window saying it because he really painted queens in the way queens needed to be painted, especially after the bridge over. Even though care Rest was just talking about the bridge, he did take slight shots at Queen's So I feel like he rebuilt all of queens all it like, you know, not just Queen's Bridge. So um but but great. We took a shot for that. Anyway. We don't even know who you picked the locks up all deep, but we know you get it with mall beet. No, you went with both. You went with he Okay, he's under the rest. I feel I feel like right now, I feel like right now, y'all, y'all both kind of playing so what one I'm not even gonna speak. Yeah, yeah, y'allay me. Yeah, I've told me when I did reviews and find out what I easily both MTV raps or Video Music Box. Oh you got switch from um, I got I gotta take. I gotta even know Ralph, even though Ralph is god like, like he raised New York. Ralph, Ralph raised New York, you know what I'm saying, and was the perfect gatekeeper. Ralph was a perfect gatekeeper. Like if Viacom doesn't hire that man and make him a big, big executive, you know what I'm saying, because he's the type of person that keeps the gate correctly. Please whoever's in charge of anything up there higher like yeah, like like he he uncled all of us properly. You know what I'm saying. But I'm gonna take um your MTV raps because your TV reps did something that Ralph couldn't do, and that was introduced us to Nebraska. They introduced us to Wisconsin. Holmes, Yeah, right, right right right, places places that that the block that and that Ralph wasn't gonna be able to bring us. You know what I'm saying, wait, hold on, I didn't know that MTV did that. Ralph never like like I syndicated with the word right is just we can't heard. I never saw that even so part of my child everybody, but I don't I never saw Ralph just raised us. I'm saying, right, right, right, right, right right right. He's he's the blueprint for an MTV rap, for a rap city. He is the blueprint that I mean to the degree. But but he he They're the beginning of of big business. They did the best they could, you know what I'm saying. But but you know what I'm saying, But they at the beginning, at the beginning of of syndication, to be honest, because at the beginning of us losing power? Who they being the check cutters. I'm saying, who are we talking about? We're talking about your TV? Like know what I'm saying, like like like though they though they did this, so they though they brought us to Middle America. The at the beginning of us you know, um, fab you know, like the beginning of the end, you know, turn that around and you know that the beginning, you know, like of everything. Don't get it twisted. It kind of had to go there for us to the person understand what he's saying, it's just mad deep right global, Yeah, yeah, for us to be here, that had to sacrifice you what I'm saying, right right, right, but but but but in this in this moment is for us to learn all power. You know what I'm saying. In this moment, we didn't recognize our power as we should. The younger generation is recognizing it much more as they've learned how to monetize every movement. We had no idea that type of ship existed, and it existed then, it just it wasn't the Internet, but the relationships existed to be broken, like you know, like I did say that, you know, like because Hammer wasn't us, maybe that we kind of treated him wrong, but but he was. He was broken in the deal, you know what I'm saying, Like like like like we just wanted it to be official, Like we didn't view it as official, but he was official where he was from, right, which is which which is which? Which was New York's, which which was New York's which was which was why New York had to eat a little humble pie. Like if it wasn't no Hammer they wouldn't have hype. That's a difference what you out the window. Just to say, like yo, just to say that, but that was the beginnings of you know, of corporate you know what I'm saying. And then like like these kids they figured it out, like these kids could take if the choices yours came out, now you know, it'd be worth twenty million. I understanding exactly what I I never saw anything. I never saw a tenth of the cats get you know, these cats get a hundred thousands, they don't go they don't go outside for us a hundred thousand. I never made a hundred thousand dollars for what you know what I'm saying, that's just the truth. I'm saying. I'm proud of you. But but I know, but I know everybody but say I know, but I know. I'm responsible for bringing ship into Middle America. I know they didn't get that money with it if I didn't do what I did. You know, I'm saying, yeah, yeah, yeah, no, it's so good because I'm still here and and and I'm not even finished, like you know what saying, like I still got the energy. I'm good with it. But at the end of the day, Like my whole ship is this, Like I'm learning from them too. I'm learning how to monetize. I'm learning how to how to take you know, the jewels are did you know? And you're learning them too. You know, what your page is really worth, you know, as opposed to it being on everybody else's page. What it's worth on your page, Little things like that. Moving forward, you know, I'm saying, making sure all of your songs are asked captain and registered, and even even the little things, you know what I'm saying, making sure because because that's your legacy. You're saying, the kid gets that. And and even the independent albums that I've done that people might not have heard of, a w M of of from the black Pool of Genius, I did album with Jerobi from a Tripical Question that Everton. Three albums you might not have heard of. But eventually I might not be here. People are gonna go look and look, and then I'm like, yo, this cat was crazy with it, you know what I'm saying. And all of that's registered, and who's going to get those listens on my monetized situation? Kids? You know what I'm saying. So we're playing for real out here. So what I'm saying, we're playing for real perfect questions to the next question, Fab five or at Love one? At Love? Um, you know what, No disrespect to Fab, but Fab has done a couple of sucker things. I ain't really dick, you know what I'm saying. We like to hear it. Here we go. It's what it is, you know, you know you know what I mean. Man, never down the Facebook. But you know sometimes cats do stuff that you know, like fat five we're talking about. Okay, this is what it is. Um Um. I got reached out to about VH one, Right, v H one hits me and they're like YoY so him. You know this is maybe just some years ago when they had the top one hunting whatever, you know, the top top one like in the year the year yeah do yeah, they're doing it. They had it, um and they you know, like, yo, you made this list. You know, we want you to come down, you know, top one hundred hip hop records. This is my word. He told me it was number nine. Wow, right up, that's fine. He told me that she was number nine, you know what I'm saying. And I was like wow, like you know, like that ship man a lot to me, Like, Yo, that's so fucking dope, you know what I'm saying. So I go, I do the interview that said the other yeah, yeah, yeah. When the ship came out, she was number seventy nine and executive producers Fat five Freddy. The niggas that I met around it, like everybody around it told me what it was. He the only nigger that I could have touched it. And even when I saw him after, I was like, yo, you know I owe you one right, and he couldn't say nothing. I left it at that. You know what I'm saying that It ain't like like I want to fight him or nothing, but just to say like you know, like yeah whatever, I'll take it off. Wow, Okay, you got deep. I didn't know what it's what it like. And it's another thing like cats don't realize, like yo, this is hip hop man like like cats to be quick dug. You know, it's not about being politically correct all the time. It's always about being real. You know what I'm saying. It's real for real, like and and I'm not coming at him like at the end of the day like he did that. I ain't do the ship. You know what I'm saying, like it ain't it ain't. And I gotta be accountable for the ship I do too, like you know, when I do something stupid, you know, like like you know, we come from the place where cats get punched in the chest for doing something stupid. You don't get killed, don't get stabbed. You know, you get to go home and think about doing some dumb ship. You know what I'm saying. When you come back out, you do better, like like that's the object. The object is to be better. So like you know, like he's not beyond somebody punchment his chest for doing some dumb ship. That's what it is. Okay, So eighties or nineties hip hop? Oh, come on, nineties, it's us. I mean it was us, you know what I'm saying, like you know, like yeah, and and and if I make yo. Let me clear something up. When I said, when I said Mob Deep, that album is equivalent to Illmatic, and I said yours is too, kind of the way Minds is too. What I meant by that is that's the bar, you know what I'm saying. And we spend the rest of our careers trying to at least meet the ball or supersede the ball or that. But that's the bar, you know what I'm saying. So when somebody looks at you, that's what they think. They're thinking of you at your best, that's you at your best. You know what I'm saying to the world might not be that to you, but to everybody else. When you look at when you look at morb d, when you look at Nas, that's their best and that's his best. And they spend saying with me, you know, like and so they spend the rest of their career trying to equate to that. And that's what I meant when I said that that's record is equivalent to that record, you know what I'm saying to say that, you know, like at the end of the day, like you know, like it's dope to hear what you said about Nas, because I felt similar. I'm from a story of projects, you know, I'm saying. I spend time in Ravenswood, I got friends I haven't been in the community center and in Queensbridge. And you know Shan Guard that's my man. He was in my elementary school together. That's my man, Jeff. You know, like like like you know Russ and you know, like like those are cats I grew up with saying like that run through all of these projects that we both know. I'm saying, yeah, yeah, yeah, yes, But what was kiss together? We'll just say, but I can tell your story off came about, but your say, but these are the things that we didn't see when we saw each other. When we first saw each other. You see that at me, I had no idea. Let's say. And that's when I say, when we see each other, we don't see brothers, but we have more brothers than we ever realized that I made some most that okay, across colors, Yo, I hate yo. Let me tell you something funny that's hard. Let me tell you. Let me say, so, I'm doing a CEO right. So I'm doing that CEO the longest quick, the longest one I'm doing not senior right, And you know I'm about I'm about us as a community, doing some ship that's dope, and I'm always going to support that other. But it's got to be right, you know, I'm saying. So so cat, I don't know, you know, I'm getting ready to go rock on sending. I'm dressing I got like the Massoni ship, like you know this is my word. I was. I was Kanye Man stopping. You know, I'm saying, like there was no world running Massoni ship. I'm not gonna Massoni ship back then. You know what I'm saying. I'm going, I'm yo, come on man yo. Yeah they didn't just stop, yo, but just in saye yo listen. So I got the Missoni sha I'm going on. So that's where my head is at, Like I'm already there at at that age, you know what I'm saying, call Knin somehow gets backstage at at the thing, I think maybe he knew shot somebody. Yo. This dude comes up to me like, yo, I brought you something, you know, the rocks name. I'm like, huh, I don't even know. And he pulls out this vessel and that ship like goes all the way down to like like like like to to like three. It think it was rocking the vest that goes over almost just over your knees. Like I'm like, you know, like this is where I want to support this brother so badly. But like I said, I'm rocking. I'm a Sony sweater and you know, like like like I'm so beyond you know what he's presenting and and and and and and and as and as he blew up and made millions of dollars. You know, I was happy for him and and God bless him. I'm from I'm from a different league of cats. Like we've rocked not even sheeps, we're rocking lambskins like you know, It's like I'm a different caliber of cat. Did you rock the vest? No? No, no, to this day, I've never owned you know what I'm saying, like like like and I hate, I hate that I didn't, but but I would have been. I would have been a sheep if I did, not a black sheep, like like like that ship ain't my style, you know what I'm saying. And I've been doing me, you know, like I said, I've been doing me from the door I learned. I learned earlier that I'm good enough. Choices you're talking, flipping them up taught me that I'm good enough. I taught you that too, You're good enough. I hope this ship, like you know, like we're good enough, Like I don't ever feel like you gotta conform to some ship now, I'm good enough. What I'm saying, like like I already don't want being me. You know what I'm saying. So so I'm not not like I get it, it's black on, you're designer, but this ship looks crazy. You know what I'm saying. In my opinion, you know what I'm saying. So everybody that had it on not saying you look crazy, you look fucking crazy. It's my word. Niggas was run around with fat Albut on the end, I've been racking the same ship since Yoyo Kanye Nigga. Yo, come on, man, y'all already know what it is. Yo. I'm saying like like, come on, man, like like we really like I'm looking at Catter y'all serious, y'all like the trader at James Freestyle right now, crazy is just crazy And that's just what I said. Okay, where it's crazy and that's not the showing him. But have you ever heard freesty? Come on, man, let's keep it a buck shot Kim or Chris, Like, that's what you gotta drink for that. Jesus, I forgot I gotta drink. We were drinking anymore. But like I said, I ain't trying to start the shot because I know the internet is very sensationalized and all that, but it is what it is and you know and you know, no, no, you gotta take a shot taking that. But let me say this just to counter some of the vibrato yo, like Olibry's very good. That's that classic area. But you know it. But you're devoted, Yo. This is my word from like I said, Man, I don't know you, but I know you, and I'm proud of you. That's my word. I'm proud of you, man, that's my word. So because because I see you. But you said both, right, Chris, like, and we try to get through this and if we're gonna get right back to the interview, but this is actually not the interview plus an interview, Yeah, because we just actually a quick time but not quick quick time. Yeah, okay, right you said he said both, Okay, B Street or Crush Groove. Oh yeo, I gotta go. I got yeah, I gotta go. Crush grow Yeah, nobody drinks nobody drinking? Who Okay, yeah, I mean because no idea. I mean like like like like like the Queen's aspect of it, like I could see myself in it, man, because okay, nor he spoke queens. Ye crazy we're from Queens. But I said, what strip to be the solo representative on the scene, I'll be the booming, bashing clocking. Crazy cash did come from Queen's strip, I said stripp to be the solo representative on the scene, the Bronx, I'd be the booming bash, boom bashing clocking. Crazy cash did come from Queen's back Then the w public enemies. Oh um, um, you know what, Um, that's gonna lead to somewhere dope. But you gotta drink on that one. Okay, Okay, let's drive. You know why that's gonna but that's gonna lead to somewhere dope. And let me let me tell you that the verses I want don't know come back to you the verses later. Police. Yeah, okay, don't blow it. Okay. I don't feel like man, you're you're the most sulfurst drunkest because I mean, you know why you don't see much of me. This is why you don't see much of you. You don't see much of me, you know, Like, yeah, I don't know about so ice tea or ice Cube. I gotta go with Cube because our very the very first tour I ever went on was Ice Cube taking Black Sheet on tour. That is yo, very first tour. We got to go around which country version of ice Cubs is America's was one death certificate? Which one? Which one is with the lynch mall popping, my dude. We had so much fun started back Sheet started. It was yo, it was us we see in the Man's Circle. We was only New York group and that's why they bought us to be the East coast, right. It was us that we seen the Man's Circle, which was cool y old dub you know, saying, um, della funky almost say, Who's Cube's cousin? And then Cub and the LSHM and this small world. Yo, Like we started and I bought showing a g I WoT show it. I just bought show cue. That's an incredible Like, Yo, we had so much time a kind of school I could. We drove, We drove and this is the first time, like this first time I have my own tour bus and like this is the first time it's happening. It was a national tour. Yeah yeah yeah, Like like at the t shirt got like probably about fifty dates on it, you know what I'm saying, Um and uh, like this is my word. We drove on the tour bus from New York. Me show Queues was on the bus with us. We was on the bus and we started off in Phoenix. First date was in Phoenix. And just riding from New York to Phoenix for the first show, Like we didn't fly there. We were on the bus with the driver. It's like thirty seven. Yeah, I felt like yeah, yeah, but but it was just like it was just like bathrooms then yeah yeah, yeah, yeah you think it just the window It was a hour house in the bus. Yo. But but but the trip there was like the yellow brick roll, you know what I'm saying, Like like it was like like yodis is about to happen, you know what I'm saying. Like it was dope like like you know, and and show business like one of my very best friends, especially in the industry, probably probably my very you know what I'm saying, like like we used to have a house together, so you know, I bought him out and showed me like you know, like that was his first tour and this is when they remember when show had the red cassette tape that had Party Groove, the very first version getting it was during that that was they would just like, um, they were just the show dropped that out drop. It was just coming up. It was just that the album was just about to come at In fact, yeah, I don't think it was out yeah, because because I know we probably would have been like yo, come Rob, you know what I'm saying, like Yo, yeah, okay, so this is one I don't remember. We're gonna go with this one scarf Face or g rap Wow. Oh that hurts. That literally hurts. Like I played golf with scar Face like like like I'm I'm the floors. I respect the back there. You know what. Amazing nice Yeah i'mn have a golfer and um yeah yeah me and Face get it in like yo, yeah he's nice to be cause he complay got a little game. Um but we saw my g brack um damn and Raps from where damn. Yeah, let's see. I'm you know what, um this is? This is This is a This is a hard one because I can look at it like like g raps personal influence is greater than scar Face personal influence on me. But I'm able to kind of step back from it and look at both of their personal influence on hip hop. You know what I'm saying, And to that regard, um, it's I'm really really gonna have to give it by a millimeter too. It's actually very close, very right right, but but by that regard by millimeter might have to give it to face only only only because only because of this, every head, every head knows both of them and loves both. YEA. The only place where one is really greater than the other is um is females that don't necessarily mess with hip hop like a little rap, but don't necessarily mess with hip hop. He lost me around with a little little and I'm gonna be come to bring full circle. Um. Star Face has made songs that that that gets get that get in rooms that g raps songs have it talk like sex. It's not gonna get in the same room that you know. Um, the some of Marry Mary Mary Man, what what's what's the what's the the hood? The hood record that that's done done and right right right right right right right right like like like like you talk about the Gettle Boys record, yeah, right right right right, not playing tricks but solo right right right, that's a record that that that really doesn't have you know what I'm saying, and and and and they both got heads. But my block is gonna get the person that doesn't really funk with us. She Rapp doesn't have that song. If you don't funk with hip hop, you don't funk with rap. Rap doesn't really have doesn't really have the song that's gonna pull you in. But Face has a few records that if you don't funk with us. But I like that record, right, you know what I'm saying. You see, Rap didn't come out for the Face versus versus. A lot of people spreading rumors to saying like like, he's kind of hard to work with our work with t rap, and there's always been a blessing for me that he didn't come up for hoodough. So what I mean was he invited once that he declined that was Carross for one exactly. He said that kind of in the midst of the battle, don't. Yeah, I mean, but you know, in the mid yeah, yeah, but you know, but you know, like I hear, but I would have made moment I would I wouldn't. I wouldn't be too deep into it to say that that that she's a real one. You know, he might have been busy. Okay, you know, like he's that would have been crazy, it would have been but you know, but but his life he wants to but he might have been. Life is real, man, this is what I'm seeing. Life is really like like I'm saying, he really might have been busy. But you know what I'm saying, like like like you know, trust me, Like you know, it's like sometimes we get so caught up in think something. You know, it's like like drink champion, but the reason why, Yeah, but maybe it happens. Maybe you want to make the call because it's kine record of Canes wanted to be from it. But when Cares once said, um, we invited g Rappid, he declined, like came was supposed to meanly come out on that next record and explain he didn't decline, but becamean address it at all. So it just makes you just say, that's the truth Caress said it. Well, maybe the truth is he declined. Maybe that's what I'm saying, but he declined for his own reasons, maybe maybe his kids, but maybe he's maybe family, maybe someone little maybe you know, and that's trying to try to lead them to earlier like like like we will come and I say this like about everybody, like us included, we become fragile a little bit. Yeah, you know what I'm saying, like like like has become like you know what I'm saying to the degree that you know, like like right now the word and it's not poking. I'm just because it's dead decline, he declined. There's nothing naked about that. There's nothing, there's nothing negative. I'm gonna say that to put the clan say word take the word and say the process of negative. I don't think the clone will fall with the positive. I don't think it's full on the positive need that that's right. I think I think would be a new word, ya, buddy, Well, it depends on the word for the lack of a better thing. It depends on when you put the word like depends when you're declining to are you gonna jump off the room? Like for lack of drink From day one, I'm saying you're gonna jump off the roof the climbs like. It all depends on when you put the word like everything but it's negative to the jumping off parts one last one, I'm jump back into that y'all been drinking one last one is even gonna jump back into that? Okay, jump or large bro, premre large bro. You know my life pro story, Queen gotta que I got another one story. I don't know if you know what I mean. We obviously don't know your alright, it's a good place for that guy. This is the place story before, before, before I choose, I'm gonna tell you all this story. It's a real story. I'm sorry. It's a real story, and it's it's when I was right under your noses. But a lot of my ship is kind of like that right under. Come, let's go pete this. When I first get back from Carolina, when I first get up here, my pops will gets to be a heroin dealer, pretty pretty fair sized ee right there in the bland fleshing what I'm saying, and um big family, the August family. So when I first get back, I'm having inclinations, you know, towards music, you know, saying, but I'm not sure what I want to do. But I'm like, yo, pop, I really like this hip hop stuff that seven yether, you know, like I would love to kind of find my way into it. My Papa was like, Yo, you gotta go find this kid. Go find this kid. I'm cool with his father. His father is like a family friend. Go find him. Tell him that I sent you to find you, to find him. He's going to help you. This is your father telling my father telling me. I'm telling my father like golden child, sho find the person. Go find this go find I'm cool. I'm cool with his father. His father knows who I am. You know what I'm saying. I've been around him and his father. His father knows our family. Go find him. He's in this stuff. He'll help you. This before this, before I'm in the studio with Native owners just forelongs there all. So when I when I find large professor who my father told me to go find, I'm trying to explain he wasn't large, he's you know, but he's gonna do that, and you know, like yeah, like, um, you know, yeah, so I mean before yeah, yeah, you know, but but I find him and I'm just not what else what else it was in the city. I see him in the city and um and because he because he was cool with tipping him, you know, saying like like this is when I'm just just starting to meet some kind of things. I think. I'm no, no, no, this is before this was this before tipping him. I bumped to him in the city. How what was the situation? I forgot what the situation was, but somebody puts me onto him, and I'm like, oh, ship, my pop's been sending me to look for you. I just came from North Carolina, this any other and all he heard was I just came from North Carolina and everything else mus to sound like ura. You know what I'm saying, because when I said, you know, when my pops tend me to find you, I just came from Carolina, just said, Neil, I'm trying to do this music yell like like he was like yo, like for real, like like like he really played me like like listen. It's just made his face like like like you know, like like like country like country country, like country, hold up, hold on the country, you know, like like that was the whole demeanor. And I kind of got it because we did it to country cats later and you know, like New York really really it was I've been for years. We did, we did, and I did too, and I was wrong. You know what I'm saying, but just say like none of less. So so he plays me like that, you know what I'm saying, And so I have no idea how I should move forward. So I just bounced off like I had cool. You know, I well, I ain't mean to bother you. Man. I go back to my father. I'm like, yo, he is not gonna help me. There's no way in the world's gonna help me. Like he played me like like I was just some sucker. So my father was like, why as then up keeping it a buck? My father said, you know what, his father could be funny sometimes too. Don't even worry about it. So this is my father's words, the act. You know, so um, So I bounced off of it. You know I am cool. I go on to you know, I want to get in trouble. That's any other beat long later, this any other all the native something stuff happens, this any other so fast forward. I got the record out, Flavored Choice, faking the funk comes out. Now I know who he is because my father just got My father said me, I don't know if he knows that I'm gonna do that. Ran up on him that all that time back. But I know who he is. You know, you know my father se I'm proud of him, like you know, like and I'm cool that like that my father like said, you're faking the fun came out faking, Isn't that on the way man can't jump? Its main source for people that don't know, we gotta talk. I'm in the exotic you know what I'm saying. That's family, Um, you know, like comes out and I buy the record, like that's how much it's a crazy record, by the way, crazy, But now I'm gonna record not that that's why this show I'm about to say, it hurts even more, you know what I'm saying, Like yo, so yeah, right right, frush, you know what I'm saying. So so I buy the record. You know it's literally supported to that degree when the record gets on two minutes and fifty seconds. If you go on YouTube right now, two minutes and fifty seconds, faking the funk, you're here. Just turn it up now listen. I listen right under it. Now, listen now listen. And I kept putting that ship back and I'm like, that sounds so much like it's me from from Holseby knows this nigga put my voice under faking the funk, even the line not ring the bell. That's some ship I used to rhyme on Pristan Roosevelt when we called a four bagger. If you called a four bag and you hit the stops, I'm ring the belt some my corn board war story, ring the bell. I'm like, I'm going to kill this nigga. You know what I'm saying, like, because what happened was this. I hustle where you live and I've never seen you ever because he's gonna flush into Yeah, he's from walking distance from where I hustle for years, got felonies there. I've never seen this in my life now, unbeknownst to me, so so crushed me. I'm fair now now nobody else knows my war, including him, But faking the funcus far from my war. You know, I'm saying, like, how dare you? I'm I'm I'm disgusted discussing to degree that to me is beyond a record because I hustle where you're from. You know what I'm saying, like like like you gotta be out of your fucking mind. You know what I'm saying, like like like it's beyond the record. So eventually, oh, my man's here, you know, so eventually, so so I got it out here. I'm pissed. I'm pissed at this dude, you know what I'm saying. So visually I'm like, I'm a bumping to him eventually, So eventually I'm on a hun you know what I'm saying, call um right next to Willie Burgs like two three and the more. It's like two three in the morning. And when my man queues sitting right next to me, we mean the seventh series BM. You know what I'm saying. I looked at my left, who do I see large professor at the like we had a red light's large professor and I cannelt ye. So before the light changes, I'm like culling this nigger, you know what I'm saying. Before the light changes, I pulled my car out and I cut his car off at the light. Right at the light. He can't even move forward a hundred in the middle of street. I got a car cut off, Like I'm a cop. I get off the car, get out the car, walk around the side to his mirror, to his window. I'm like his eyes as big as sources, like you know, like what the fund is happening. I'm like, um, put up yo, what up yo? Um listening professor, did you did you say mple my voice, I'm faking the funk? He's like huh, Like wait, man, did you sample my voice on faking the phone? And he's looking at you know, he looks around, he looks at the scenario, and he looks at me like like, I'm sure he never imagined this that you know what I'm saying. And he's like no, it looks at me like no, and like in that moment, in that moment, I'm glad he said that. Glad he denied it. I'm glad he denied it because and he said, yeah, this is my word. I was so mad at him, I was gonna pull him out the window like that's there's no if fans or buts about it. I'm gonna let you finish. But this is a sampling like a problem you was. You was saying because she jumped, intervened, he didn't do this, nig is crazy. So you felt like he was because he from the little kid ship. I'm telling you the ship got he like that what it is. But what I'm saying, did you feel like he just shouldn't have sampled you or because how he wasn't mad at about It wasn't homage to sam. It wasn't like here to be At one point, I thought that was hamish. Actually, I'm asking you like you didn't think it. You couldn't feel like, yeah, that was dumb. I don't know dress dress. Yeah. Let me tell y'all all right, like like right now, right now, I'm a little disappointed in y'all. Disappointed, mad a little bit because y'all'll know goddamn well when hip hop is and what hip hop is not, and y'all know that the shot sniggers were taking. So you feel, yeah, not just just just to temperature up the climate of hip hop, that's okay. Faking the funk he was saying, you were taking the phone talking at games, you felt it was just saying. I just said I had a round where when I was hustling up where I say, ring the bell, This nigga said, war started ring the bell. This nigga that got my voice under it. It's my voice, it's mine. Faking the funk, I don't know, man, Like on top of you, on top of it, a hustle, on top of a hustle a hustle where this nigga is saying that he's from. He's claiming flushing and you know, and claim flushing. It's all loved, yo, I love you know y' y'all gonna like were goals, but I'm telling you all where it was all right, So you know, claim flushing is all good. But at the end of the day, like like repped flushing. You know what I'm saying. It's a difference, you know what I'm saying, the different claiming some of them repping something. You know what I'm saying. I repped Flushing, you know what I'm saying. And um, so you know. So so I was letting them know, like, yo, you must be out of your mind. And the fact that you denied it said everything, because if it was any of what y'are talking about, ain't nothing wrong with saying yeah you know, or did I or did I do something wrong or just you know? But no, no, it was you're pulling up in front out the street. It's no time to say yeah, maybe i'll call you later say yeah, I just told you I think he did the right that you know, he absolutely did the right. Then I just told you I think he did the right thing. But but but but but but later he told you, but it wasn't what but but I didn't do but I didn't do the wrong thing. It was it was it was what I thought it was, you know. And so when you listen to it, you know you're here, and I listen. I listened. So I asked him you did you see with my voice? And he's like nah, And and in that moment, I was like, Yo, if you didn't sample my voice, then you ain't nobody, because somebody sampled my voice. But if it wasn't you, then you ain't no body I'm talking to whoever did that, or they would they would be able to stand by that. And I got back in my car. You know what I'm saying. But every time I've seen him after that, that nigga couldn't get a pound from me. If he swild my niggas, I'd be like, funk that nigga. Yeah, any way, this is a together. And that'd be the things that cats thought that they could do to me when the load, when the low cats thought that that that that would be my work, and and it would be it would be funny when the cat that thinks that they don't funk with you, realize that they can't funk with you. You know what I'm saying, And and and that's a little more of my walk than cats ever realized. But I don't. I don't talk a lot. I'm saying, unless some more drink chips. I'm saying, like, you know what I'm saying. But I'm I'm gonna bring this fools. I'm telling if if I tell you a story a hunt of time, I'm gonna tell you exactly the same thing. Ain't Nober the truth. So now I'm mad at him, you know what I'm saying, because I feel like he disrespected me. And and I'm not speaking on it because I don't want it to become something that everybody's like, yo, because now I gotta do something to you being record or as mad as I was, you know what I'm saying. And I know niggas that got him under pressure where he lives, like like is that deep? Like you know what I'm saying. Like, but anyway, I'm like, yo, I don't want to be I was mad at him for a while. I wanted up leaving New York, going to Carolina and coming back and when I came back, Professor was one of the first people I saw when I got back. And this is my word, in my heart, I didn't want to be mad at him. In my heart, I was like my father sent me to find him, like like like like in my heart, even though I felt like he tried to play me. You know, I'm saying he didn't know me, He didn't know he didn't know himself to do that ship. You know what I'm saying, because if he didn't know himself, he would have never done that ship. You know what I'm saying, because at the end of the day, like you ain't getting props off of off of that ship. In my eyes, the person that you focus that ship at, you know what I'm saying, Like nigger, I walked through that ship, you know I'm saying, and and and I'll prove who was faking the funk if anybody was. But I don't want to do that. I don't want to be mad at you know. More so what I see him at a DJ at a gig in Manhattan, and I woke up to him at the d end of the DJ. But yeah, yeah, this is this is literally like here too later you know I'm saying, I don't went down south came back, but I don't want to be mad. Every time I saw him, I would I would just be on some bullshit with and I'm the type of chat out I wanted to make him mad enough to want to fight me. So the busses ass like, that's literally the type of ship definitely crazy, you know, but yeah, but you know, but but but he did that. I didn't do that, you know what I'm saying, like like that that that'd be my ship. I'm one of those dudes like once you break that, I'm the wrong person I had to never talk about. Don't want to those people want you like you know how people break the rules but then want you to play by the rules. I don't want those people like I make it blatantly obviously want you break the rules. Ain't no fucking rules. Now I'm saying, like that's me and that's why I don't like to get put in the positions. But nonetheless, so I walk up to him and I'm like, Yo, my dude, I don't want to be mad at you know, more mad like it was my word like we was kids. I don't think you meant that and honestly, I don't want to be looking at you like I want to do something to you. I don't know what I'm saying, so I want to apologize for the energy that I was coming at you. And you can see the relief in them. I'm saying this any other. He was like, Yo, Yo, that's cool man, it's any other like you know, like it's almost like he wanted to apologize, but an apologize. He didn't have to admit, so he didn't. But it's cool, but just to say. But he gave me his number and I appreciate it. I was like, yo, that's so duk, like like I'm definitely reach out, like like I thought it was cool that he trusted my energy in doing that. You know, he gave me his number, like like now I can get up with him, like like like my dad wanted me to type ship. I feel good about having his number. So I call him, you know, and we're talking this and the other. And he invited me over to his crib. And when I go to his crib, I didn't know where he lived, but he lives in the call out. She just no, no, no, I don't know where he lived. Drinking ahead I found out he lived in the car out at this time or still now you're all right, I was like, yeah, it's no NICKI like so, so I found out, you know, like he revited me to call out at the time. So I go over there and you know, we're sitting with talking um and I tell him how my father sent me to find him, and you know, like he's like, oh, ship, Like it's almost like, you know, like it's almost like when I came to you know, like like like like he literally played like I was from Carolina like that she came in in out what I'm saying, so like he had no idea. And then I started talking about, you know, about me being in the Bland and you know, growing up in the Bland, you know what I'm saying, and that together he starts telling me about him growing up in the Bland and it's not the other. Then he goes in the back. His father had just died. God bless him, you know what I'm saying, you know, God bless his pop. His father had just died. And he goes in the back and he's packing up a bunch of stuff. He goes to the back and he's playing me beach, which I was amazed that I'm listening to the beach steps professor playing for me, you know, like I thought all this time. He goes in the back and he comes back with a picture and he says to me, he sends me a picture. He said, Yo, this is my pop. He's like with his best friend. You know what this is. I said, Yeah, that's my uncle Raymond, my father's younger brother. H It's like that was my my dad's best friend. You know what I'm saying. Gray was passed away as well. No, no, no, no, my my uncle Raymond still out Okay, but but my uncle Raymond was his father's best friend. You know what I'm saying, Like like like that's how we were kids together in the fucking big park and flushing his pictures, it's literally pictures of us as kids, meadow park, no fleshing, the parking in the you know what I'm saying, life Like, there's literally pictures of us as kids. You know what I'm saying. So so again when I say when we look at each other, what we see and when we don't see, you know what I'm saying, We family, man, We much more family than than than systemically induced realities. You know what I'm saying. We family, and we gotta stop the bullshit every time we look at each other. That's what we gotta see. We gotta start moving together. We gotta start pooling our resources. Family. Man. It's it's how you know. And it's like life is taking me on so many missions for me to come full circle and be face to face with myself. All right, I'm sitting with fucking large because we don't win on this whole ship, and we was there from the beginning. Would you ever do a versus against the effects? Yeah? Me, and That's Effects is my favorite show I love. I love rocking shows with That's Effects. Yeah, I would that. Yeah, how are you? Yeah? I do it versus against anybody? I can care less. I would do it. I would do it versus versus the whole wolf saying about myself, you know, I do I know if I'm just saying like like like I'm you know, like yeah, yeah, I'd go against like the biggest you know, like battle rapper. I'm not a battle rapper, but like like I find, I find I find put myself in situations as an MC like like exhilarating, like like like every time, every time I've got I've been on a record with a bunch of m C s um like that ship is a it's a test of your metal, you know what I'm saying, and and and I take it as such like like this is my word like and not just sound like that, but I think every m C needs this in them like you can't. You can't. It's not a record that I've ever been on with other MCS that that I'm not dominant on it, at least to you in your opinion. Now it doesn't exist. That's worried like you telling you know, like Perry and if it does, point point it out like that there's not and not to say that I dominated it, but that I'm not dominant, you know what I'm saying, Like I'm not saying that I'm the one, but on any record i'm one with other cats, I'm dominant. What I'm saying like like you'll look at me and you'll be like that, that's that's one of the standout versus on that record are none by no record that I'm on with other people. Earlier, I stopped you for a seconds. I think you said the ultimate versus that you would want to see, and who was that? Who the ultimate versus that you would want to see? Inside you? You you're batting anybody? You said native tone versus um death Row. And for the reason being the diversity that's missing, how about can I give him a better one? Still native tongue, ready, native tongue worst Dungeon family. That would be cool, But but that death Ro is really not here no more like shug everyone that everything deteriorated. They probably wouldn't come together as death Ro. But the Dungeon family outcast, goody mab Who else am I missing? Um? Uh okay? Who else is done? Fans? Come on, sleepy Brown? Yeah that would that would be dope. Yeah, it would be dope. And would it would definitely be. And it's kind of like I feel like native tongue past the torch to the Dungeon family here, so because I feel like outcasts kind of like the new tribe, kind of like a different version of tribe. Yeah, you know what they they they they did something that I wish we had done, meaning that I wish we had been a microcosm of the records we made, Like we made these records about about about black empowerment. We made these records about unity, about pooling our resources, about education, about educating our seats, about being pre parents, about being a family unit, about staying together and moving the culture forward, and then we didn't set the example that we asked the people to do. It's supposed to be a native tongue tour in which they're supposed to be native tongue distribution. We're supposed to have the native tongue tour, supposed have native tongue water some motherfucking to the sea covers to like it's it's supposed to be something so prolific native tongue. It's supposed to be something so it's not too late. But I've been saying this for a long time and the parties that that need to step up need to step up, man, like you know, like it is what it is, but ultimately like it's like yo, like well not like it like yeah, I mean, you know some of us all and some of us you know, need to get with it, but nonetheless like it's like yo, Like we made records about exactly what we're talking about, and the Dungeon family kind of has kind of step like like they did what they're supposed to. They got on their position themselves, on our shoulders and took it a lower higher. That's what you're supposed to do. That's what we're all supposed to do with right, no doubt. And you know so for that aspect, I think it's dope. It's a celebration of of our community. I think it's dope on on the versus. But the reason I want to versus with with something so in contrast, it's because it's versus, you know what I'm saying. And to say this that like has it's a little bit like the two part that that I just spoke to a little earlier. I'm not trying to take away from them, but cats it brought into an analysis are air quotes definitely a reality that could never be reality, and and literally to the degree that they were afraid of it, like right like like like like I'm a little disappointed in and how we've been moving as a community, like like like the gang culture and all that stuff, like like you know, like like like a lot of a lot of my thought process, I don't say a lot. And the reason I don't say a lot because my my answer to it is I'm a fucking grown up, you know what I'm saying, Like, if you forty plus, it's time for you to be an example of something other than up than other than you know what I'm saying. And and if you didn't grow up in something, don't go seeking something, you know what I'm saying, like like like like be strong enough to lead everyone everyone, you know what I'm saying, and and and and I'm gonna say something else And I don't know what it's worth because it's a question. Yo, what's going on in Chicago is crazy and what's even crazier to me? And like I said, this is not a shot. This is something I've sincerely wonder, Like is that the home of farrakot h is at the home of the nation. That's where I'm asking because in my opinion, the two are co related. And I'm not seeing the co relation. And I say that to say that I'm just as accountable for what's going on here, like like we gotta step up in front of cats. We gotta start being willing to stand for something, you know what I'm saying, Like like if if the person you respect you respect because of their salary and you're fucking idiot. You know what I'm saying, And somebody needs to be telling you that. And if ain't nobody telling you that, allow me for real, like yo, like we need to stop some of the stuff that we're doing, myself included, Like I'm trying to be a better person, a better father, a better all the above, and they don't come where we're from. It don't come easy. I was forty years old when I found out what a nuclear family man. You know what I'm saying, Like I didn't even know what it meant he was saying. And I'm not a stupid person, but I was forty years oldhen I found with a nuclear family man. The most important thing in our community is our families, and they've broken that down, They've taken out away from us. That's what we need to be fighting for. We don't need to be fighting for nothing else, but our families and the broken ones need to be fighting to fix themselves, like it's worth it. It's us as a father today, I make sacrifices that I wish my fault had made for me that I wish. You know what I'm saying. And that's not a shot in him. He's a result of what all, All of all our fathers are results of you know what I'm saying, playing their hands that they got dope. But at the end of the day, as I've been playing my hand, I've learned that there was some sacrifices that was worth taking. There was some ship that was worth not doing or not being to just stay put or if you know better, act better. Period. Yo, Sometimes you don't know better, but some people know better and don't act better. But sometimes you don't know better, but you know right from wrong, you know what I'm saying. Like like, I didn't always have a moral compass. That's why I missed Fife. Fife had a moral compass. Fife made me better by just being around him. Fife is a kind of cap. If we all jumped the turnstyle, Fife wouldn't jump it. And I was stupid enough to think that the first time it happened that he was scared. But that was me being stupid. He just had a moral compass. Some people do the right thing when nobody's looking. That was Fife, know what I'm saying, But that ship don't really exists. You know, when you're young and you rambunctious and you're willing to roll the dice, you know what I'm saying. So you roll the dice every chance you get. You look forward to getting the dice, what I'm saying. And so like as you get older and you start seeing cats that got a little bit of fiber to them, that stands for something, you know what I'm saying, that that are loyal to a fault because that's who they are, you know, like that means something to you and and it means something in life, you know. And I'm talking a lot, you know, like I said, you know, but at the end of the day, actually one question, right, because why did you guys name the group black sheep? You know? Question because you know, I forget we bring up a fight. I think fight said this lot's like bad guys were black bag cats is bad luck, bad black magic. Then you name it black sheep, and black sheep is the one that stands out right, the one third base third very say, okay, okay, that was a white guy. I don't know what the search was the other one like, okay it was it was I don't know. Yeah, okay, um, what were you the black sheep of We thought of that the natives like like like when we when we did the demo, like like you know what I'm saying, like like like we realized the power of the click we was in, Like like this is my word, man, those cats are so powerful. I know, this is my word. Like I couldn't have better big brothers, right, like like I've learned so much artistically from them, just to say, so, we're coming out with an album, we're doing, we're working on music. We're in this click, like like these are some dope cats. We have to find a way to like we're doing the same process. We all produced, producing the same kind of way, but we have to find a way to be as dope as them, but not sound like them, you know what I'm saying, Like like you know, like like and so at the end of the day, like you know, like if you looked at and this just was just being true to what we saw. You looked at daylight. Daylight was kind of hippy is and even though you know when I didn't want you to call them hippy, but you know they're kind of really free flowing. Trial was kind of the same, you know what I'm saying, a little bit more kenty cloth cloth, but you know, at the same time all of that, all of that, you know, jungle was much more fatigues and even before there was been fashioned you know what I'm saying. Like they definitely was you know, heavy, heavy on on the fatigues and whatnot. So you know, at the time this is my word like I like before I sold it like I had jewelry, and you know, like um, you know, fucking little Gumby and curly and all of this ship. You know what I'm saying. And you know I'm much more of a you see, uh, more of a current street. Not to say hard, but to say the click I came up with in New York. All all goal was to be able to fit in Lord Cast, Big Show, the Lord Sea Shot. Um, you know saying shortly black. You know what I'm saying, Um, Steve v O God bless you know what I'm saying. Ross you know, Um Jr pop Yo. Just to say, all of the cats I just said, we all dressed to get in. Now when I say to get in, it didn't matter what the function was. But I know what, Carl, can I offer me? I wasn't getting in there, you know what I'm saying. If you noticed me throughout my entire career, I was dressed to attend. It didn't matter what it was. I was good. You know what I'm saying. And that's the click I came from. We was we was getting in that room. You know what I'm saying, Oh, that's how you gotta get that looked again, that roope, and that's from the door. That's where I came from. I never made I never put clothes and rhymes. That's just my giving, you know what I'm saying, like like like I ain't got to talk about that. You're gonna see that. That's my giving. I ain't got That's a waste of words for me, you know what I'm saying, Like you're gonna see that. You're saying that like that's just what it's like. It's like a cat that a line. Ain't gonna scott and tell you it was a line. You know, I'm saying, they're gonta smack the shift. He normally don't have to tell you. You can really look at you like nigger, you know, Oh my bad saying like he gotta say you sha, you know what it is you're saying like you know, So that's where I'm from. Um again Kanye stopped, but just saying, but just say like yo, like you know, like I come from some real stuff where you know, like honestly I couldn't tell my story. You saw Kanye Porto Sagua, Right, That's what I'm here, restaurant. Continue that's cool. No, no, no, And not because because I actually wrote him said I actually say yo what he said. Yeah, but he said, ain't gonna tell you what you're wearing. Because because because it will make much to sound even more grounded, we just say just say like yo, like man, as time is going on, man, like you know, we all just trying to figure it out still, God damn it. Let's make some lloyds for your card. Yea panther glasses you think you seeing those? Those are? Let me give roses getting Yeah, totally forgot, yo. Where's the roses that gud boards or somebody que would have had the regular size roses for you? They told us to the last minute he was coming to it today. It was very bad communicated Vinny, not not them. Vinney was bad back. But we want to literally give you up roses, your flowers, and we got we got we got one for you too, cute, goddamnit. And if I could clean up a little bit too, man like like the car cannas and the food bulls and you know all that, like yo, put sorry, sorry, we just wet. Yeah, you know and l he you know he alumni. Right, this is amazing. I appreciate Let this think very much. This is appreciate it. Shout out shout to organic food King and with the flowers an organic food. Let me ask you this one more because um, they are so recently finally negotiated getting their masters back. Is that a journey that you're on. Is that something that you're gonna pursue? Um? Yeah, like like definitely. Um. One of the things that I definitely want to drop a jewel or two for cats, especially for the older artists. Um. One of the things that I've been able to learn is um that you know, like we've got especially if you have a contract from the nineties, you have a window at thirty years, you know. And Carmon told something about that, right, Yeah, that was a different, a different thing. Cameron said, after ten years, you can recreate your thing. This is something different, same, same category. Different, But yeah, I hope that's the case that that's f live, that is. But I hadn't necessarily heard that particularly thing, and I'm kind of like really jumping in it. But cam is definitely shop. I wouldn't put it past that situation existing. But what I know if it exists is at thirty years. Um, there's a window where um, as long as this addressed in in writing at thirty five years, between thirty two and thirty five years, but um, everything can be reverse reverse if it's not. If the paperwork's not done and not put in, it just rolls over, you know what I'm saying. And a lot of times once that's happened, you know, that's where you know, it's that's the lifetime of that artist. So you know, like who would know those terms? Though? That's the crazy of the things that we that we find out as we move forward. These these are things that are kind of common knowledge that they just don't share with you. Well, it's not common because it's not being shared at all. It's yeah, yeah, what I'm saying, But in their community, you know what I'm saying, In the community that's taken you know what I'm saying. Trust me, it's common amongst thieves. You know what I'm saying, and yeah, you know, they know, and they know not to tell. They don't not to tell, like you know, once you found that the first time you found out what points really was, you know what I'm saying, like you know, like, oh, you've got eight nine points, ten points. They don't tell you that that's percentage eight percentage. That means it's nine that exists. That's not yours, right and and golf a big you're splitting it or it's more than two y'alls, but there's ninetent out there. It exists. Since so when I say they made their money back, first check you, I'm saying like like like it's free, like like like you know, like I should be a multi millionaire if they just gave me half, you know, say the game, right, but yeah, right, right, but but that's not what they do. But you know, but like at the end of the day, you should look into it because well, now I'm already I'm already signed already in I'm speaking when I know not yeah, like I'm already situated to get my ship back, and I'm saying not easier when I started my I'm starting my journey when I'm going to continuing my journey. It was a lot easier than what I thought. It was a lot easier than when I tried back in the days because a lot of them giving up their rights to people that we actually signed to signed solder to someone else and they gave away they write too. So so it's like it's like so, but Dayli Daylie was a little different because they knew who it was. They knew Thompson. Mean you know what I'm saying, And I'm so happy, Yeah, yeah, yeah, of course that was. That was and it's funked up, especially because day Line is like like like one of the foundation bricks of the fucking label. Like you know, it says so much to you know, to the people that how you treat your your your home team says everything. You know what I'm saying, like says everything, like like they that that company. Literally Tom still we've been giving back all the groups they masters working out, working part of it, a part of that. But we're not taken about nature, you know that. But then you know that Tom didn't do the ship, No it's him, because no, no, no Tom, Tom sold it and then he brought it back up. This is what I'm saying. That's why I say he did do it back. I'm something about yeah, yeah, he bought it back for my now right now, he brought it back from him right now, I'm talking about for them to negotiate like whatever, he put his label on the market, whatever it did. Then he went back and bought certain albums like individually, and that's how Dayloight got caught up. Yeah that's a fact, trust me. I mean it. Trust I don't know. But as far as now though, like he just sold everything, and like he didn't let them off when he sold it, when he sold everything when he sold it to let them off, I believe. So yeah, yeah, yeah, I know what you're saying. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know what you're saying. But what I'm saying is that was the second time. This is one time he sold it and then whatever ver and then came back. And that's the screpancy where they came here is because he had brought it back and we got into it and then I guess you're playing dirty, like he said, so he was waiting for a minute, so you just put me on the stuff. Hold on, So you're saying that when Daylock got their masses back they didn't negotiate with Tom. This is someone else didn't negotiate it with. Holy that's great information. That's great information. Holy shit, Holy, Because if y'all under the same unbrella yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely on this. I didn't know that. Yeah yeah, well I didn't know that though I thought it was what that's that's a that's great information. Thank you, Thank you guys here. So listen, man, you're cute. You gotta you gotta take a shot. Man, you gotta take a shot. You gotta take a shot. Goddamn. And then we're going what you got going on? Cute? What what's the new? Still doing things? What's the leading man? We uh we got we got some projects getting ready to drop, working on the album right now. And then I'm doing a project of show base and uh yeah, you know, working with my family. Me and she just banged out a joint fire and uh course you know that. So yeah, yeah, what your coups think? Come on, Y'allalute to y'all, bro, what's a little to y'all? Salute? Yeah, salute, salute. I like that. Nory. I don't smoke, but I smoked. I hit the smoke. Yeah, trust me, people smoke, they go a little crazy. They're going a little for a couple of people. Man, So what you got going on cheek? You know we we smoked, you know, daily all day with it. But she went to smoke already got you? Yeah you're good. Yeah, yeah, come on to your family. I got my book, Another kind of Freedom. She'll b x dot com on Amazon. You feel safer with that? Why? I also got a documentary that AMC just picked up. I'm supposed to be dropping regulations launch April at the top of first quarter, and I'm doing the score documented me about your whole life. Yeah, the gall from but it's already done. Just picked it up. So it was it was a lot of um, there was a lot of handicapping us with the license and a lot of the music the documentary, but you know, I guess they got it ironed out and so early next quarter the book. You know, yeah, come and dress. What's what's going on for you? I got some really, some really amazing stuff happening right now. Um, I have this really cool project that's under the Monica D and D. D and D stands for Dilla and Dress. I met j Diller. I met I met Diller's mom um pre COVID and I was doing a charity of Van Puerto Rico, and um, you know, she just so happened out of a house there. So I meet her and her husband and they invite me back to the house that got some DJ. She's cooking, she's telling me all about her son out of her mouth. Just blowing my mind, you know, because I was kind of the one native that really didn't have the religion. Yeah, you know, I kind of just made him in passing. I didn't really know him like that, so so it was kind of yeah, it was kind of awesome, you know, to be getting this. And at the end of the night, her husband and herself or my dukes, offered me the opportunity they had just gotten back a lot of his music under the estate, under the catalog, under the umbrella of the estate, they helpered me an opportunity to go through all of this personal stuff and create a project. So I was overwhelmed, like, oh my god, like you know, A would have been crazy with the track, but they let me do this, and so I put it was became like this mission. I started listening to every interview just doing every beat I could find everything I could find about him, and it became like this organic thing that I did where he became like a best friend of mine that I never hung out with, Like I kicked it with his best friends and you know, yeah, but I started meeting people around him and and what what happened was the album took place and that and there's a documentary about the making of the album that that's coming. So that's coming together at sometimes next year. But the album has the likes of Bunby Chuck, d CeeLo Green, Corey, Guns, Source, Money, Chi Ali, Uh My Son, Dela Funky, Homo sapien to Um. I mean like like it's the smuggage book freeways on there. Um yeah, I said, so its money, like like it's it's heavy. It's heavy, you know I'm saying like it's it's a real heavy piece. Um My man Uh Alexander Simone who was the grandson of Nina Simone, Jalil Shaw, Uh Centauria, a new upcoming artist that's gonna blow everybody's mind. Was my album. But all of these, but all these I pull all these featured artists. What I'm saying, like all of these cats some of them like I've never got a chance to do one with Bunny, I gotta do one with Bumby and you know, like it was just for dillab for everybody I just name is rocking with me over a dillerb what I'm saying. So, so that's coming sometime next year. I don't know the date because we're still doing a documentary, so you can't really put a date on that one, but it's coming. Then I got this a couple of I'm doing a series of EPs of what I'm doing to stay busy. So I'm just reaching out to dope produces that I think a dope like, whether they're well known or not well known, and I'm gonna do like five songs with them. So the first one coming out is me and my dude Stu Bangers. I don't know if you're familiar with Stu Bangers out of Massachusetts. Your son is like just straight cryptonite hard, you know, it's like he gets it in. So me and Stu Bank has got this project called called Sheep stew Um. I also got another EP that's gonna be coming out with It's almost like a Lucy Pearl, you know what I'm saying, and I'll just say to the two guys and one girl, well, just really one gout one girl. Sound terrible, sound very it sounds kind of portant. It was very important. But you're right, it is two guys girl. But but but one is a producer and I'm just gonna give the way to producer. The producer is a producer by the by the name of Vitamin D. You familiar vitamin D A little bit, your vitamin D is Vitamin D is one of the dopest produced. Every dope producer in the game knows exactly who vite him in d is and it's it's I'm taking upon myself to make sure everybody knows who like. Every dope producing the game knows who he is. And it's like like he's that dope and so I'm doing this amazing project with him. And and there is a Lucy up in there. I'm not gonna give away who she is yet. Okay, I think it's time to take a picture, picture and taking the drop. Just do one more shot. He trying to you know, he's a drink chad. But love word man and the work y'all are doing. Man, y'all doing some amazing work. And and and to say that that don't that don't mean that that knocks don't come with it and all that ship you're not not But y'all are bouncing off ship like like like men. Y'all, y'all, y'all, y'all, y'all, y'all are good for all community and and and y'all you know what I'm saying, y'all are setting a dope example of of how capable we are. Litt let me just say, let me say this before we leave, but our whole purpose is the key the true generation alive. And that means you know, people who you know to be famous, to be in the hip hop. Is this. I apologize to anybody who ever been the war. I've been to the army and you take this the wrong way and been the But the same thing is fighting a war. It's a different kind of veterans. It's a different type of veterans. But we're veterans, veterans of our own things. We're not comparing the pain and the struggle. But that ship, that ship is a mental to what you're saying. A lot of people don't understand that. Like you know, you've got other You've got other friends that you know, have a job and when they take off their unit form, that's it. Like our uniform is on four seven and it's my work. When the Cap comes home from war, people around him can't really relate to what he's been through. And the same kind of with us, like you know, like people can see it and they can form an assumption, but they have no idea to the degree, you know, like the undercurrent and the ship that's over yet this ship under your feet and over your head and you got to navigate that ship, you know, and it's real, you know what I'm saying. So, but but that's life, Y'all's life, y'all. But we're want to say to you, you know, ch Q, this is your platform, this is your format when you'll want to come over here and promote I don't even know what pick you got over there. You want to promote that, you want to promote the book. I'm gonna promote the documentary goal you have the goalief goal Leaf Golifa speak to the mic. So we get to okay, cool, yes, yes, so it's but right, I'm assuming all right, cool, Yeah, that's something I'm getting to Golden golden leave. I definitely get I never get a black sheep straining two you got you gotta do that, and you should put a white sheep on the couple and the commercial needs take advantage with Jesus. Yeah. Love, y'all take a drain draining first right. Thanks for joining us for another episode of Drink Champs hosted by Yours truly, d J e F and n r E. Please make sure to follow us on all our socials.
