Jeff explains the cult-like echo chambers, the pull of identity and belonging, and why “meeting in the middle” with patience and curiosity works better than shaming.

He now works through his nonprofit to help others exit, stressing the need to replace lost purpose and community with healthier pursuits.

Anyone who’s heard Amanda talk about her love for Barry Manilow has probably also heard her mention her childhood best friend, Melanie. Earlier this year, Melanie’s world was turned upside down when her daughter, Jess, was suddenly diagnosed with renal failure. Jess is now on the waiting list for a kidney transplant — and Melanie is her donor. In this episode, we’re honoured to have both Jess and Melanie join us in studio to share their story.
