As you may know, it’s NAIDOC week, which is an annual celebration held in Australia during the first full week of July to recognise and honour the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It's a time for all Australians to learn about and celebrate the rich heritage of First Nations peoples. The week also serves as an opportunity to acknowledge the ongoing challenges faced by Indigenous communities and to promote reconciliation.
Let’s lace up our hiking boots, jump on our bike or start up the car and head off on a musical journey around the Australian landscape in acknowledgement of NAIDOC week, and to explore and celebrate some of the diverse range of musical goodness created by Australia’s First Nations people. Our journey will traverse the mountains, deserts, forests and coastlines of this vast land, soundtracked by a collection of songs that meander from traditional to folk, to electronic and beyond.
Do Your Thing would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri people, traditional owners of the land from which we broadcast, and pay our respects to their elders past and present. Just a note to any Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander listeners - this week's show contains the names and singing voices of people who have passed.
