DMV Spotlight on Aug 31, 2025 on Suicide Prevention efforts. Guest Mike Lamma, Executive Vice President of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention explains the mission of the organization includes funding research into suicide prevention, education in schools and elsewhere, advocacy efforts in legislation as well as officer programs for those who’ve lost loved ones to suicide.

Lamma explains the National Suicide Prevention and Crisis Hotline 9-8-8 was an outgrowth of advocacy efforts. Lamma also discussed the Out of the Darkness Walks around the DC Metro area during the month of September for National Suicide Prevention month. Lamma also warning parents that some online resources, such as their own, can be trusted while there are also negative and unregulated resources.
