DMV Spotlight shines a light on an effort by the State Council of Higher Education in Virginia ( SCHEV) alongside several state universities for a potential three year undergraduate degree. Guest Mark Owczarski, Associate Vice President and Spokesman for Virginia Tech explained many schools may offer a two- year associate degree or a 4-year Baccalaureate but there a gap for a three-year program. Owczarski notes that not all degree offerings will work with a 3 year program but says there are considerations underway for certain health degrees as well as agriculture degrees being offered at VA Tech that may work well.Owczarski says primary purpose of any state run institution of higher learning is to provide access to education to as many people who want it and to remove any barriers, including cost. VA Tech hopes to offer a three year degree by the Fall of 2027.

DMV Spotlight on August 2nd, 2026 shines a light on the Fairfax County Carnival and Fair. The annual event returns to Frying Pan Farm Park, the only working farm within the Fairfax County Park Authority says Public Information office, Andy Grabel. The Carnival and Fair offer residents both amusement rides and visits with farm animals. Grabel also provided an overview of the Recreation Centers, Waterfront Parks, Special Events and Golf Courses operated by the Fairfax County Parks Authority. Grabel shared several of his favorites spots and events within the park system and highlighted the accessibility of various events.

President and CEO Joseph Mettimano explains that best way to help if you see someone on the street in need is to call 9-1-1 if they are having a heat emergency or if the person needs help to either be prepared with McDonald's gift cards or something called "bread coin' that is a token purchased online that can be redeemed at various food establishments around the city. Mettimano also discussed the progress at Mission NoVA...now celebrating its 2 year anniversary helping local families with food and clothing. Mettimano also discussed 4 graduates of the Mission's 16 month program to help men get prepared for life beyond the street with counseling, addiction treatment, spiritual growth and life skills training to become productive members of society.
