DMV Spotlight on 6-21-26 shines a light on the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center and its work to rehabilitate injured native animals. Guest, Dr. Jen Riley,  Veterinarian and Hospital Director for the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center discussed the conditions of 4 Bald Eagles all recently found injured in Stafford County Virginia, two juvenile birds which were saved and two adult eagles which did not survive. Dr. Riley explained the older birds of prey had ingested lead from the innards of recently hunted larger animals that were shot using lead bullets, urging the use of copper bullets instead. Even fragments of lead says Dr. Riley are enough to poison and kill the birds. She also discussed the Center's education efforts and fundraising efforts for the 501-c3.
