Slipknot was the most extreme thing to come out of Iowa since taco pizza was invented there in 1974. Their sound was massive: nine masked members played with brutal force, propelling their fans, affectionally known as "maggots," to a cathartic release of destructive energy at every show. But when two teenage fans claimed that the band's songs inspired them to commit murder, the destructive energy Slipknot had so far controlled began to tear the band apart.
