Tony Moreau On What Makes Mining Great

View descriptionShare

In this episode we chat to Tony Moreau, CEO and director of American Eagle Gold, a junior miner focused on exploring for world-class gold and copper deposits in North America, namely its flagship asset… NAK copper-gold property located in British Columbia.

Tony is a Chartered Financial Analyst, and worked in a variety of position’s for IAM Gold, most recently Business Development and Innovation. Apart from his role with American Eagle Gold, he also leads the Young Mining Professionals Toronto Chapter and is the Co-Chair of the YMP Scholarship Fund. We had an interesting chat around the company but also some of Tony’s experience and encounters with senior leaders of our industry, showing what a great industry the mining industry is.

So please share this episode to others outside of the mining industry because its not what they think as you will discover from listening to this episode.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Just because you hit stumbling blocks every now and then doesn't mean you can't pull it back. American Eagle saw its value fall, but success revamped its fortunes almost overnight.
  • When people think of British Columbia they think of the Golden Triangle, but there is far more to the area than just this area.
  • The problem with finding miners in their specified areas is that competitors will hire workers at a very high rate, pushing up the average costs of hire for all other companies.
  • The two main rules about junior mining are that you must first look after your structure, and secondly if you have to fail, then do it fast.

BEST MOMENTS

'We got a Pulp Fiction shot of adrenaline'

'We've got a lot of blue sky ahead, and a lot of great property'

'It's all about reserve replacement'

'The biggest challenge is to keep yourself in the news and have people know who you are'
