Saint of the Day: St. Stanislaus of Krakow, 1030-1079; born near Krakow, Poland; educated and ordained at Gnesen; he soon he became noted for his preaching and became a much sought after spiritual adviser; he was successful in his reforming efforts, and in 1072 was named Bishop of Krakow; he denounced the cruelties and injustices of King Boleslaus, and excommunicated him; Boleslaus himself killed Stanislaus while the Bishop was saying Mass in a chapel outside the city
