It's time to flashback with Michael Smith.

Oh, yes, it's time to jump in the time machine with Michael Smith for the first time in twenty twenty five. Good morning to you, Michael.

Oh, good morning Will and David. Now you know, in about the two hundred and thirty plus flashbacks we've done, I've had the opportunity to interview all sorts of remarkable people, from sports stars, musicians, to chefs, academics and politicians. But this week on flashback first, in fact, the first for my career, because I have interviewed somebody completely naked and I'm talking about them, not me. Because just to clarify that, this year marks fifty years since Maslin's became Australia's first legal nude beach. It happened back in February nineteen seventy five under the premiership of Don Dunstan. As you can imagine, fairly controversial at the time, but interestingly he got a lot of support from across the political divide, particularly from former Liberal Attorney General and later Supreme Court Judge Robin Millhouse. South Australia really led the way when it came to nude beaches. Other states took years to follow our lead. In fact, to this day, Queensland still doesn't have a legal nude beach. In fact, only about eighteen months ago people were fine for getting their gear off on the beach near Noosa. I've caught up with Shas Weaver, who's the president of the Australian Naturist Federation, who reckons this Maslin's milestone is well worth celebrating.

It's fifty years. You know, we were the first legal clothing optional beach in Australia. We set the pace for everyone else. Maslins shows Australia that the nudist community are people loving our freedom. We're looking after the environment, we're not causing trouble and there are people in these seventies and eighties who are still going. Honestly, yeah, haven't lived he You've swum in the sea with no clothes on. Really, it's the most beautiful feeling.

About fifteen years ago, David, I remember you wrote a column about Maslins which started with a very funny gag about a soameliear, I'm not sure you can sell it on breakfast radio though.

Uh no you can't. What can't You can't talk about a joke and then say No, I'm not going to tell you the joke.

Well, people can google the joke. It's worth it's worth looking up whatever.

Say it real fast, you're going why was the Sameli I kicked out of the newest colony? Who's walking around with a semion? That's the jokes, delicious wine. Play it back slowly, so the Chez Weaver, So it was chasing the all together when you spoke to her, Mike, she was.

In the all together. She has been going to Maslins for about forty years. In fact, only put her clothes on to open open the door of her house to let us in and said she felt much more comfortable with no clothes on. So that was a first for my career.

I was going to say, you've been in this game a long time. Is your first nude interview?

Yes?

What do you do with your gaze in that situation?

Michael?

You sort of looking well painting on the wall? Is it all strict eye contact?

A shout out to also will colleague Tody Salvatore, who is for televisual purposes very cleverly shot the interview through an alo vera bush to mark anything that that the sensors mightn't be happy with.

And this segment is still going to be on Sunday night during the during the news, Michael, it's not anything.

It's been signed off by our boss. Well when I've been pushed to the midnight slot though Sunday, all right, Well.

That is excellent.

That's going to be fantastic what they call appointment setting television. Michael Smith with these excellent flashback segment, unafraid of storytelling wherever that story may be. We should turn the police home care text line into a bit of a private confessional. I wonder how many of our listeners have ever gone to Maslems just once out of curiosity, well without without you even suggesting it. I'm not going to read name. Someone said my brother got sun trucks swimming at Maslins forty five years ago. Another one here says I did the nudy swim at Maslins once in my twenties. I think I went alone because I couldn't let anybody knew I knew see me like that. Thank you to that person as well, sit before it zero, late thirty ninety five. I'm not going to join the confessional. What I will say though, Maslins. You've said enough about the Murray River Back Friend, There's nothing you can say about Madslines. It is easily one of the most beautiful beaches in South Australia. Just stunning. David Penberthy and Will Goodings six to nine five Double a Breakfast
