Fine minutes after six. Good morning to you and welcome to Thursday and five to blaz Breakfast. Is the sixth of June. It is getting cool in Adelaide. It's starting to get a little whiff of wind this morning. We're still in double digits eleven point three degrees outside at the moment, so it's not too bad, but not last night. There's just little gentle reminders that we are now starting to get into the teeth of June. Something that's coming up this morning. I don't want to overpromise, because in the past we have under delivered. But on my run sheet this morning, there are two words that do excite me. They are pulp fiction. Lucy's review coming up after six thirty. She's back in the state having been Galivan who around the Wit Sundays for the last few days, looking forward to hearing about her travels. After six thirty, Miley Hogan and the US is going to join US. Donald Trump at a pretty ominous phone call with Vladimir Putin about what comes next following the destruction of the long range Russian bomber fleet and doesn't sound good. We'll talk about that then then after seven thirty today Matt Abraham on what is today's State Budget Day, will get his thought on the the annual budget day drop. We kind of get the key details they come out in the newspaper before the budget papers later in the day and then to around it the bragam this morning. Jimmy Barnes, the Legend himself, will be on after eight thirty. David Benworthy, good morning to.
You, Good morning listeners, Good morning. Well, I'll tell you what I struggle to think. What more is going to be left in the budget to write about and to talk about for tomorrow because we now know we don't know what the debt figure is going to be. We know that it's going to go up again.
It'll be around fifty I reckon, Yeah was forty six? The media Budget review from memory? Yeah, Well, when we spoke with the Treasurer a couple of weeks back, he confirmed on air that it would be higher than that, higher than it was in the midyear what's it called the midyear Economic Review MINDJI budget Review, Midie budget review, Media budget review. But we now know what the surplus will be got very big, and that's because of the eighteen million, eighteen million down from a projected two one hundred and one at the Bad Buzzer Review.
It's a big drop, isn't it.
But the government can argue or will argue, that it's because of the drought, and it's because of why how, and that that's swallowed up a whole bunch of money that otherwise would still be sitting there in government coffers. So anyway we'll get into their argument is that's why I have a surplus. When their emergencies pop up. It gives you don't have to dip into the credit card to be able to pay for thing the thing that I think is interesting and maybe we'll get it we made. Abram will probably get into this, but I was reading that excellent reporting that the Advertiser had this morning. They sit down with the treasurer and he went through week thoughts and feelings and concerns and so forth. Revealed the eighteen million dollar number, he said, delivering a new surplus of one hundred and seventy nine million in the upcoming financial year.
Okay, well that's good. Another surplus, that's good.
At the Media Budget Review, that was projected to be a four hundred and forty nine million dollar surplus so that one's so this year has come off one hundred and eighty million, next year has come off almost three hundred.
Men, what's that one about.
Isn't it money for the election campaign?
Well it would have to be probably.
Yeah, because they're gonna have to promise something. So I think you're exactly right. That's personal play thing money. That's yeah, re election money.
Because there's no other budget before the election. Nope, the elections in March. They can't bring it forward, so they can, you know, just go on some spending spree. But that there that money there. I think you're exact. I think you've nailed it.
That would have to be it promises undelivered pre election promises.
Yeah, yeah, stuff, we're going to make up you know that number.
And I hate tom aut politics like this, but this is just how politics in Australia works.
You know who can say the biggest number.
Look, the person who cares about health most is the one who says we're going to spend more on health, not the one who says I can deliver the same quality of service for you for less, because that's just political death. Yeah, in Australia, I hate it. That said, just to play in the game that we're playing in here. That number of the one hundred and seventy nine million, four and forty nine million that we're talking about for next year, that's what that's Vincent Talie's Tazi's opportunity.
Yeah, what are you going to do?
Money that he can spend too?
That's right? What are you gonna do with it? What are you gonna dream up?
Yeah?
How do you spend it? Again?
I hate to talk about it. It's all about how we spend much. Who can say the largest number? But that's what he's got to play with, and that can be something that goes to his base. It could be like some big payroll tax change. That's right, yep, you know so polp fiction. What are we expecting and nothing to do? To go and do nothing good? I'm just looking at Loose now through the glass booth. She's got a good poker.
Face, louse.
She's always looking tanned. After the three days, well we should have with Sundays. We should make the point that we are putting someone else on the short list this morning for their own with Sundays Dream Holiday Venture thanks to Jetsta will have a clue this hour, clue next hour a clue in the third hour of a location, you get it right. Yesterday it was white Haven Beach that Lucy had been to in her travel and you're on the short list, one of six people who will be drawn out next week with a chance of getting flights, accommodation, and some once in a lifetime experiences, all thanks to jet Start, so you can get to experience what Lucy did.
Speaking of wonderful coastal destinations, I wonder if any of our listeners in Port Wakefield want to join us today because what's happening there with the closure of the abbatoire. Thats a huge number of jobs to lose in a town that small, and there are people saying that basically our fear is that Port Wakefield, which has always been a town that's had a sense of identity, a sense of place, it doesn't want to become just a dot on the road on the way to York's where you basically treat it like a you know, a pit stop on the freeway where you nip into the survey, grab a pie and a nice coffee and then keep driving again.
Call us if you're from Port Wakefelle would love to hear from you.
This morning eight double two three A double can text us on zero before eight zero eight, thirteen ninety five fifteen after six. We'll take a quick break and jump into the news headlines next.
David Penberthy and Will Goodings six to line five double a breakfast nine.
And after six.
Having some issues with the YouTube live stream this morning. Facebook is up and running, though if you're watching a Facebook you'll see it's all hunky dori YouTube. They'll bear with us were I'm just going to reboot it and have another crack and see how that goes. News headlines on this Thursday morning. A bomb scare at a McDonald's in Adelaide's North last night four staff and customers to evacuate. Police were called to the Saints Road Makers at Salisbury Plane just after eight A man allegedly threatened to bomb the store. Then he left a suspicious package inside. The bomb response unit was called in. No injuries were reported. Emergency crews remained on the scene for several hours. We went across there after seven o'clock. Hayden Nelson is there for sunrise this morning, so there was no bomb though the guy was just making it up. By the sound of things. Well, yeah, but I haven't seen that confirmed yet. No, no, but it would seem that way. Yeah, we could to hear straight from Hayden about it.
Yeah.
A debate on a motion that could topple Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliffe and force the state to an early election were resumed this morning. A parliament ended up a journey last night. They didn't get to a vote. Nineteen MPs did speak on the no confidence motion. The debate went for some nine hours. The Liberal minority government's grip on office started coming apart after the budget and now it's crystallized around this whole stadium issue as well.
The pretty ominous for the stadium, isn't it.
It doesn't sound good because he's basically the only person there who's passionately advocating for that's right.
Isn't it crazy?
You know, it's such a huge thing for Tazzy, But to get bogged down in the weeds over well, I don't know, is it the weeds?
I mean, it is a huge amount of money in a small state. It occurred to.
Me how big a spent it is for Tassy when we were speaking with Matt Denholm yesterday and he made the point ten billion dollar debt in Tazzi their budget projects, and they said that's that's huge for a state of five hundred thousand. People thought, well, then one billion dollars worth of stadium is adding ten percent to a debt they already.
Think is yeah.
Well, I mean it's part of it obviously, but it is a large component of that debt figure.
So I was in an Australia.
I don't think it is part of the debt figure yet because I haven't spent the money yet. You know it would be in addition then, So I was thinking out in our context, Let's say our debt figure today comes in at fifty billion. That's like US advocating to build a five billion dollar stadium in South Australia. No way would that get popular support. We build ours, we'd upgrade outland over five hundred and thirty five million.
Yeah.
But as Ben Jordan texted in yesterday, I mean, since it probably started with the adelaide over what great then it does now seem to be this expectation that the AFL can get almost all of the benefit and not stump up much of the cash at the start.
Here's what I think the very cynical AFL position is the a f L doesn't see much benefit having a Tassy side, not for TV. There's not a big TV audience there. They don't watch it, but they're already watching footy. The TV networks aren'tnna ad an extra five hundred million dollar on the thing on the on the tab off the back of such a small popular that's right. So what I think the AFL's argument is we need a stadium there that can end up hosting things and can be a draw card to justify having a Tasmanium side. That to me would seem to be their very cynical view of it. I think most footy fans just want Tazzy to get a side because they're passionate football people and there's I mean, five hundred thousand of them is not nothing.
Yeah.
I do think though that there's a there's a gather around style argument for the long term economic benefit for Tasmania of having a really good stadium like it would.
Make it more to go.
I was making the point from the perspective of because I think Peo people have said, well, why wouldn't they Apple just let them? They have stadiums they play AFL at why do they need a billion dollar indoor one. Well, that's why I asked Matt yesterday about Belle Reeve. Like I remember going. In fact it was with Matt because we were mates. We used to work together in Canberra. He was the Tigers correspondent. We went to an Australia the.
India from memory.
One day match at Belle Reeve and I remember it because it was packed and Ben Hilton House was in the side the hilf so when he came on everyone was going crazy because he's Tasman.
It was. It was huge.
It was a really good day. It was a day game. But Belle Reeve was a really nice ground. Oh why can't they play putty there? Well they can, But the AFEL just doesn't see what the AFOLD doesn't see the benefits stumping up millions of dollars a year after year to prop up a franchise when what's the ultimate payoff going to be hosting twenty thousand people a week at a small light.
Now I actually think that'd be great, so do I. But I'm just saying that's I think that's that's the AFL's rationale.
I don't know couldn't you just upgrade bell Belle Reeve a bit the same way we upgraded the Adelade.
Yeah.
I would like to think so, but that's just unless the AFL shifts. I'm not sure. German and Portuguese police searching for Madeline mccannon Portugal are using a radar scanner and an excavator as the operation ramps up. There focusing on abandoned buildings near the resort where the toddler went missing in two thousand and seven. Can you know it was eighteen years ago?
Now?
Nine News Europe correspondent Hannah Sinclair says there are more police on.
The ground, more equipment was being used. An advanced radar scanner, which can scan up to four and a half meters below the ground, has been brought in as several abandoned buildings were also searched.
The Adelaide Caparet Festival kicks off tonight the twenty twenty five variety Gallery Who Matches Dy's Theater. It will feature seventy seven performances across twelve nights. Eleven world premieres. Carloida, Vika and Linda Bull and Jessica Malboy will all be part of another major festival on the South Australian and Adelaide calendar, a much loved one too.
It certainly is.
Let's have look at the weather for today. Today's not interesting, I tee you what. The rest of the week has just got more interesting though. Top of seventeen today with maybe a mill of rain, so you might get a little just around.
Be a cool sort of a day.
Tomorrow two to fifteen meals of rain now, so we're going to get something tomorrow. How about this though, Saturday two to twenty meals of rain.
Wow, that's gone up a lot.
Topic CA has gone up significantly, I think because Sunday's probably been drawn back a bit. Sunday one to ten meals, but Sunday is going to be icy seven to thirteen degrees top of thirteen on Sunday, fifteen on Monday, and maybe up to five meals of rain, maybe up to three on Tuesday, and sixteen Wednesday, maybe up to five meals of rain. I don't recall a five or six day run of rain forecast like that for a long, long time.
Long Toker's going to continue in the next week. Monday four meal, Tuesday three meal, Wednesday five meals, so not just the long weekend being largely washed out. It's going to make my footy pretty interesting tomorrow night, although we're not sure exactly what and it starts, we'll ask. Yeah, yeah, Moleskin Derby going to be a bit damp under foot at the Home of Football, going to get very might have to get the Scotch.
Guard onto the r MS.
Be worried about the cuff the cuffs of the old Moleskins as well. It's going to make the walk from the Earl of Leicester after the plow was lunch to the ground somewhat tricky, very untidy. Time to take my golf umbreller. Tom Rent spanted into the five double A studio get a three K cash guard on selected models during exteena Mitsubishi's end of financial year.
So good morning you, Tom Rent.
In morning to you as well.
Will Jason horn Francis meeting with Nazaiah Wanganeen Millerer at a restaurant just off the parade in the last couple of nights. Really yeah, And what do you make of that much in that you reckon?
Well, that's just I'm excited if I support for ye toot quality. Sources have told me unless Jason wants to go and Kilda. Well, yeah, exactly, That's that's one way of looking at it. As probably the first time I've heard it put that way. I have been told though, that he also trained because those two trained together in the off season.
I have been told that Riley Philthorpe is also quite close with the zai Wangony Miller Crows fan. I think it is. Look, you watch a lot of footy pemo you do as well. I've seen a lot of Saint Kilder games recently. He is by far their best player by that far. It's it's actually frightening. He can seriously play related to the great Gavin Wangon, and of.
Course he is.
You guys are expert analysts and commentators, but a mug puntal like me. I was at the game when the Crows demolished the Saints earlier this year and even I noticed I said the Jim, he's that indigenous blake and he goes, oh, yeah, yeah, Wangley Miller, what that surname? You picked him for that surname.
Alone, didn't you. Yeah.
I mean he's just a good ball user, quality guy. You know, He's going to be worth every penny where.
He just stands out.
Wow.
Yeah, so you know that that's just got everyone sort of salivating.
Now, and where is he going to go?
You know, could he potentially go to the Crows or Port You know, Willy end up staying at Saint Kilda. So the bidding warp absolutely is on, So bring it on. I think the Crows and Port though up to their eyeballs in it, so you know, should be exciting times wherever he goes, so hopefully to one of the two clubs.
Behooves you to have a couple of public, high profile chit chats with the opposition players around contract time, doesn't it. Yeah, I still a good, good tactic, good tactic just to make sure you know where the comma's in the right place, where the zeros.
Are being lined up exactly.
So tonight, if Australia beat Japan, yes on home turf in w A about eight thirty the games on Channel Times tonight, we're through.
He should be through.
Yeah.
So the gold difference is much better than Saudi Arabia. I think they're minus two where plus seven.
So you know, if we.
Win, it'll be better than that, it'll be plus eight plus nine potentially.
Because there's only one more game after this one is one and it is.
Saudi Arabia, So.
Regardless of what happens tonight, the Soccer US would only need to draw their final game. I would think even if Saudi Arabia have a big win we lose, hopefully our goal difference is still better. But if we win, you're right, we should probably be okay. And Japan haven't brought out as good as squad, but it's not really in their culture to take the foot off the pedal.
But the Soccer's have not beaten.
Japan in their past eleven matches.
So we've beaten them since two thousand and six World Cup, have we?
That's a good question, I'm sure about that.
But we've beaten them very few times since that one in kaisers Latin.
It's it's been since then.
Certainly haven't won in their last eleven and it's been hard going.
In the Asia Cup, we beat them because we played career in that final, didn't.
We Yeah, I don't know if we missed them on the other side, but maybe have beaten them once or twice more. It hasn't been a common occurrence though, so yeah, we've got that to look forward to and the French Open has been fascinating. There's a story of a twenty two year old back from an ACL world number three hundred and sixty one. She's just gone through to the semifinals, Lowess Poisson. She's sending the locals into raptures over there in France. So just beat Mirror and Drever overnight. It's got to downtake on Coco Gov. So great story. So you know in the tennis wilderness there for a while off the back of this ACL but only a few months back and into the semis of a Grand Slam, which is pretty amazing.
Fantastic story. Good on you ready, good on your boys.
David Pemberthy and Will Goodings six to nine five double a breakfast.
Twenty three minutes to seven police and where they're coming up very shortly the we're off to the US, and now I was time Matt Abraham on Budget Day. He did get a belated invite to the budget lock up, so he'll be champing at the bit. Looking forward to Matt on Budget Spin after seven point thirty this morning. It is a Thursday morning. Back from Paradise to reality. Louis is in the five dol a breakfast studio with us. Movies are better at Wallace Cinemas at the time of big screen magic and entertainment.
Visit Wallace dot com dot are you good morning?
To you loose, good morning, welcome back, Loose.
Thank you, yep. Love the with Sundays, Loved Early Beach and rested and ready back to reality.
So Early Beach just describe for us, because I don't know if a lot of people will have necessarily been and stayed there.
Lot you did the last three days.
Magical, very relaxed. I love Port Douglas. It's it's more casual than Port Douglas. Port Douglas has an air of ritziness about it as well as being a good place for backpackers.
Early Beach entirely relaxed. Vibe. Yeah, pretty hilly.
Like my hotel was on a very very steep incline, but it meant the view over the bay was just incredible.
So good for the dry lasted yeah.
Good for the glute muscles, good for the old calves. The water was flat as it was like glass.
Every day five full sun, humid.
I nearly nearly didn't get on the plane.
Well, we're glad you hear, Luce, and we're glad that you did go on the trip because one of our listeners is going to get to see that same thing. Escape to the WIT Sundays this winter flowed direct from Adelaide with Jetstar in under three hours. Book now Jetstar dot com dot are you we put someone on the shortlist yesterday, we put someone else on the shortlist this morning to win this prize, flights, accommodation, experiences, it's all included. You just need to guess the location the WIT Sunday's location to get on the standby list. Today's first clue one eh hour is it's part of a subgroup of WIT Sunday Islands. Part of a subgroup of WIT Sunday Islands. That's clue number one. Stay listening. There'll be a chance to call in and secure your place on the shortlist after eight o'clock this morning. Now movies, Lucy. Before we get to the wheel and the review of this week, shall we revisit last week. You've had some time off lounging around in a beautiful It's Sundays. Did you find the time relaxing on your hotel bed to go into the world of butch Vincent Vega and the rest.
Pulp fiction was not relaxing. It was very nearly it.
Did not finish. What very very nearly it did not finish. I had to watch it in several sittings.
That's not good.
Boy? Okay, how do I describe what I thought? Pulp fiction was unconventional?
Obviously the storyline jumps about the place, which I actually quite liked how it all came together at the end. But getting to that point, I was like, oh man, this is this is real tough for my brain.
Had it's funny moments. Samuel L.
Jackson I love as a as an actor, he provided a lot of those funny moments.
Yeah, I sort of I don't know what to say because I really didn't like it.
What was what was the moment?
What?
What had you wanting to be out?
The scene?
The gimp scene, to be honest, the gimp scene.
Well, it's not everyone's capit, you know what? It was worth it just to hear Lucy say the radio and.
Not the not the gimp bit itself. But what happened downstairs in that where they got captured.
What happened down there?
I was like, nah, so it would it be fair?
To say that while watching the film, Lusey, you felt pretty far from okay.
Did that scene really especially.
Line from that scene?
Well, I actually I had to skip over a few bits of it, so I didn't even didn't even hear that bit because I could read the room and I fast forwarded a bit.
Look, is it one of those things that loose? Where can I like that?
You said that unconventional because even though it wasn't your cup of tea, that to me sounds like a compliment. And I think it's like, for example, like not everyone likes classical music. My mother loves classical music.
Great for studying classical music, Well I don't.
I just I can't. For me, in my mind, there's no entry point for it. But I'm not going to dispute the fact that Beethoven and Mozart and Handle are all geniuses.
Sure I can.
And Quentin Tarantino's character I thought was good as well. He was in his character was in the film for a lot longer than I thought he might be.
Is a suburban duib.
Yeah.
Look, I just it exhausted me, and I'm going to give it a one.
Oh. I like that it had an impact on you, though like, clearly you look like you've had a visceral reaction of finding it completely exhausting. And what about the touching story of the heirloom watch?
Yeah, real touching. Will so tell us where's that watch been?
It's been through some things, you know, people.
Like I remember story of Christopher Walken's appearance there.
I didn't hate like the cast.
What about who's that Harvey cut the wolf?
The cleanup scene?
Oh yeah, that actually was not a bad bad scene, giving one, giving it a one.
The criticism of Quentin Tarantino a direct as a director has always been does he make good great movies or does he just write great scenes? And pop fictions often held up as an example of that. They stand alone individual great.
Little scenes and mastered them all together to make a two and a half hour marathon. My Godfather and the last scene when they're in the diner, Yes, I liked it all came together, But my god Samuel L.
Jackson was just monologuing on and on.
And I was like, in a superb way, it's got philosophy and it's.
Fine, dipped over it because I was just needed to get to the end.
Did you have a royale with cheese? When you were in front.
Oh okay, so all the quotes that you guys were giving me say what, say what again?
Cheeseburglh blah blah blah, all.
Was in the first ten minutes, and I was like, do I even need to keep watching this?
Well, that's true. You have worked with us for ten years. You certainly don't need to watch The Big Labowski.
I've already seen it and I didn't like it.
All.
Let's spin the wheel and try again this week, see if we can't do better. Five double A breakfast audience eight double two three double A doubles that up.
If you want to win yourself Wallace.
Cinema Family, pass and vote for what the movie is this week. Eighteen is the number on the wheel, which means what movie year was eighteen?
Reservoir Dogs.
Reservoir Dogs is not in the movie bowl, and had it been, it would have been removed this morning. So we've gone from my birth year nineteen ninety four to the my brother's birth year nineteen ninety one. Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, Kevin Costner up against Thelma and Louise.
Thelma and Louise has been in before. I think.
I think it's also lost twice.
Now, okay, Thelma and Louise or robin Hood Prince of Thieves big at the time, but I don't think it's the cultural sort of legacy that Filma and Louise has as a film. Eight double two three double O double is the number you can vote for Filma and Louise or for.
Robin Hood Prince of Thief.
The number eighteen hasn't been spun up, so this is in the very original list of the films that I catered to. All the numbers eighteen has not come up yet.
Eight double two three double O double. Just for casting your vote, you could win yourself a double pass to get along to the movies the wonderful Wall of cinemas Chris in Rich have in Good Morning.
Yeah Gone, I'd like to vote their robin Hood Prince of.
Bee Robinhood Prince of Thieves. Thank you, Chris.
Eight double two three double O double o is the number. Nineteen ninety one.
I love Film on Lones I saw that at the movies. I thought it was an incredibly good film.
Do you love it more than Pulpit?
No? No, but I really do love it.
What would you guys rate pulp fiction.
I have no five out of five. It's so influential.
It was interesting you mentioned you love Samuel L. Jackson that film. Samuel Jackson wasn't a movie star before that movie.
Really was Uma Thurman? Is that right?
Yeah, that's right. I'm not sure.
Samuel Jackson's story is really interesting because Lawrence Fishburn got offered that role of Juels and his agent said, Lawrence, you're beyond supporting cast. You're a leading man now, and he turned it down, And then he turned down the role in die Hard that Samuel L. Jackson ultimately played, and his decision ultimately meant that Samuel Jackson became one of the biggest movie.
Stars in the world. Sally and Hillcrest Filmer and Luise or.
Robin Hood.
Go past where watching them wearing tights.
Started?
Was that a Robin Hood vote?
Yeah, that's a Robin Hood vote.
Catherine, Good morning.
Elma and Louise, and see you gave it one more style than I would have.
David south Bright and good morning.
I go Selma and Louis. You needs a bit the lighthearted.
Thank you, David. I don't disagree.
Margaret in Parafield Gardens, good.
Morning, Good morning.
Both movies are fantastic, but I'm sorry, you just can't go past any movie that has Alan Rickman in it.
Yeah, yeah, Robin Hood, thank you, Marca, Jerry, good morning.
Good morning.
I'd go sell them on.
Louise purely for a Brad Pitt no shirt. Although it's although it's hard to look past Alan Rickmand saying I'll cut his heart out with a spoon.
Magnificent work. Jerry in South Clipton.
Good morning, good morning.
I love both, but somewhere and Louise, it's not okay, good on you, sir.
Does that mean it's finally one good stuff?
We'll give it Jerry and Warrendale The Wallace Past.
A lot of people have said Thelma Luis on the text line, someone said, how dare you?
Lucy?
Pulp fiction one of my favorites, although someone said I agree, pop fiction is crap.
Church Here at five, Double.
Breakfast, Leslie says John Travolta dancers makes it work worth it? Actually, Yeah, the twisting scene. Once I got over how weird it was.
I sort of liked it.
That was so good. I love the music in that that they're dancing too. Yeah, never never can tell. Yeah, Uberman said, Quentin taranteed about that, say this music's ridiculous, and he said, trust me, it's going to be amazing.
Scene was amazing. The whole film not amazing.
Good stuff loose all right, We're to check traffic police a weather coming up in just a moment. Len Andrew's Real Estate Experts and commercial of Residential Property Management Lenn Andrews dot Com Today.
David Penberthy and Will Goodings six to line five, double a breakfast.
Nine minutes to seven. Are there many rhymes that are truisms? Ryan has sent us through a picture, A magnificent picture of the sky, beautiful red sunrise this morning, says, you know what they say about red sky in the morning. It's either sailor's warning or Shepherd's warning, depending on which part of the world you're in.
I think rain.
No one of them, shepherdste anyway, red sky in morning, Sailor's warning. What are other rhymes that are true? Eight double two to three double O doublew we You can text us on zero four zero eight thirteen ninety five.
Other rhymes that are true?
Yeah, you know, little those little truisms. I actually don't know if there's any truth to the red sky in the morning.
But doesn't mean it's going to rain.
Yeah, that's what he's saying. Well, and the forecast would suggest that if you're if you're a shepherd, consider yourself.
For exactly right.
Jenny Horbat at the Weather Bureau joins us I don't think, Jenny, you basically your forecast on the color of the sky.
But there is some rain on the ways.
Yeah, Look, maybe not too much today, but definitely as we head into Friday and the weekend through there, we could get a few spots coming through. So that high cloud is across from the west, that's the band of patchy cloud ahead of the Friday's front. So yeah, we could see that cloud increasing a little bit of shower activity a few spots during the day while it's got that China rain feel, but more likely as we head into the evening and overnight period through there. Maximum temperature seven point two actually happened last night at about nine pm. A little bit of a northerly wind and some of that cloud has kept that temperature up for the remainder of the overnight period. Eleven point four at the West Terrace Night, a period observation site at the moment, we are aiming for top temperatures of seventeen degrees for the city and northern suburbs, around sixteen for the coast, fifteen on the forecast for Mount Barker, So having a look tomorrow that midim temperature around eight degrees, also aiming for a maximum of seventeen, probably going to feel a bit cooler with that when the shower is coming through with so we are expecting to see them picking up with that change during the early afternoon, so we'll see those northerly winds shifting westly. Could be a bit breezy at times, a little bit gusty with those showers, especially around the hills. Another front coming through on Saturday, with the current timing maybe setting off relatively dry Saturday morning through there, and then those showers picking up again as we head into the afternoon and evening. Looking at that maximum temperature around sixteen degrees, much cooler day on Sunday there in that southwesterly airstream, can't rule out still a few showers hanging around, and likewise on Monday, looking at maximum around fifteen also in that southwesterly with those hit and misshowers continuing and even Tuesday one or two probably still remaining, and possibly another front on Wednesday, but we'll watch this space. Bit of time to pass between now and then.
Guys, good stuff, Jenny, thanks for that, very comprehensive as always.
All right, let's say to say boss and you can still Matt Browns of the line, Matt. Two people have been arrested after running from a stolen ute.
That's right.
Well. Just before nine pm on Wednesday, the fourth of June, Eastern District patrols spotted a stolen Nisuzu Dmax in Malden Street at Northfield with two occupants. The two subspecs tried to run from police, but were quickly apprehended after a food chase and further checks revealed the green Susi ut had been reported stolen from a Glen Osmond address on Monday morning. So a thirty five year old man from Surrey Downs and a twenty three year old woman from Elizabeth East were arrested and charged with the legal use of a motor vehicle. The man was bailed to appear in the Adelaide magistrates called a later date and the woman was refused bailed will appear in the Adelaid magistrates called the latest day and the stolen ut was towed from the scene for forensic examination. So some good work by patrols there.
So yeah, absolutely, Matt and Matt you said this next item the bomb at mac As it turns out it was a hoax out there at Ocdonald's. Yes, and Salisbury Playing.
Ah, that's right, David. A man's been arrested after a suspicious bag was left at a Salisbury Playing fast food restaurant on Wednesday night. About seven forty five pm on Wednesday, the fourth of June, Northern District Police responded to reports that a man had allegedly left a bag inside the restaurant after claiming it contained a bomb. Patrols quickly evacuated the area and detained the man, and technicians from the Bomb Response Units attended and determined there were no explosives in the bag. The forty four year old man from Parafield Gardens was arrested and charged with creating a false belief. He was refused bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Major sre. It's called later today, so you can go and get your mcmuffins and big knacks and everything. Everything is safe there everybody.
And Matt just finally a crash at Hope Valley.
That's right. Just after ten pm last night, Wednesday of the fourth of June, a police were called Grand Junction Road after reports of a crash. Hyendi sedan was traveling south at the intersection of Hancock Road and Grand Junction Road when it rolled and collided with an unoccupied business premises. The driver and passenger of the car, two and nineteen year old men from sant Agnes, received minor injuries. The driver was taken the hospital for treatment and for also blood sample to be taken. Investigations in relation to the crash wre ongoing. So we're asking for any witnesses, anyone who might have seen the Hyundai to call crime Stoppers on one eight hundred, triple three, triple zero.
All right, good stuff, Matt, thank you, send you comes to a Matt Brown save I'll getting some rhyming truisms coming in. Lynn says, a minute on the lips, a lifetime on the hips. That's the kind of stuff. Rafter Kaz makes the point she's usually not a proponent of violence, but says a pinch and of punch for the first day of the month, she says an in person ruism. Maybe it is a few more coming through. We'll get to some more of those on zero four zero eight, thirteen ninety five. In just a moment, first, let's head to the US. Miley Hogan for seven years reporting on a high stakes phone call between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. Miley, good morning to you. Do we know what was discussed?
Yeah, good morning. Well, and few things would discussed. According to Donald Trump, he's given his own assessment of this phone call, with putting a message out on social media, which we have seen the President do a number of times. He described this conversation as a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate peace, saying that President Putin has warned him that he will retaliate for the air strikes that place with the drone attacks that took place on the air bases deep in Russia over the weekend from Ukraine. You may remember that attack. It was where Ukraine did this strategic, highly sophisticated attack where it had these drones inside deep inside Russia, and it targeted five airfields and forty bomber aircraft or President Trump says, the President Putin. He's going to respond to that. So now we wait to see what that next move may be.
Did Trump express any disapproval of the fact that Putin is sort of out there saber rattling and saying that whatever Ukraine's done, he's going to do the same or even worse.
No, he did not mention any deterrence. He didn't mention that he put any pressure on Putin even to agree to a cease fire or try to deter him from responding to this attack. So it doesn't appear that Trump, really, that we know of, or that he's decided to make public, that he's put any pressure at all on President Putin to not respond.
Miley, Thank you, Moley Hogan for seven years in the US. Donald Trump's version of ambulance ramping at the hydrogen plant right now would appear to be stopping the war in Ukraine on day one and solving the budget deficit. Yeah, both those things just simply aren't happening.
That's up the spout. Speaking of spout, we've got quite a few plumbers. I didn't know this, being incapable of changing a washer. Ben and another guy on the text line, no name given. Ben says I was always told when turning taps are doing home plumbing, lefty lucy, righty tity.
I always say that to myself every time I have to screw something together. Every sing righty tidy, that's right. Oh yeah, that's lefty lucy righty title. It's actually really handy. Gets me through our construction. That one, that's good. I like this from Ben, who's revealing a bit about himself. If it turns out to be a truism. Sun's out, guns out, no guns out today.
It's pretty cool out there.
A minute to seven five, double A News is covering up our wrap at the morning story, isn't it.
David Pemberthy and Will Goodings six to line five, double A Breakfast.
But it's after saving good what exep.
You're joining us for the first time of this Thursday, the bit of jew And usually we do the news rap. Now we will and this is probably bad radio, but I'm gonna do it anyway. Go outside and look at the sky. The sunrise is unbelievable out there at the moment it is.
We are not exaggerating at all, folks. I just went and stood on the balcony. It looks like the best panel van Art you've ever seen. It looks like the cover of a Genesis album from nineteen seventy three.
It is absolutely stunning.
And you know what it made me think of Will that great interview we did with Chung Lay, the Australian journalist, and her wonderful, wonderful answer to the question what is it actually like when you're released from jail?
And she said it makes you notice things that you take for granted. Today sunrise is something you cannot miss it. You cannot miss it. It's it's it's almost like the pulp fiction of Cinne Whereason it will.
We're going to get so many great pictures through. What we might do is collect these and put these up on the live stream at some point. Ralph thank you over Brighton railway station. Adam sent us one over Port Wakefield, which we will be talking about a little bit later, the plight of poor old Port Wakefield with the abatire shutting down. We've got others from Peter Burrough, Pat thank you Green with Ryan sent one in earlier, I think the start of the conversation about Red Sky in the morning. So keep them coming in all of our budding five double a Breakfast photographers and we'll give them some airtime. Even the iPhone on a stick has outdone itself this morning, where we've spared every expense. The Facebook and YouTube live stream from the roof here at time my square. It looks magnificent as you look towards the hills, spectacular sunrise that is going on in our skies back here on Terra Firma. Today the state budget will be handed down. I know David's got the sort of jittery excitement nerves of the budget lockup in a couple of hours time. A lot of the big picture details released and interview of the Treasurer did with the Advertiser this morning at which he has revealed there will be a thin eighteen million dollar serplus for this year in total at the mid year budget review that was meant to be two hundred and one million dollars. The one hundred and eighty largely due to Wyala and drought for farmers. Now the media budget review for people who go what the hell is all this? Basically halfway through every budget year they stop and release the document that says, well, how are we going? It's how our projections looking, and that's what they did that in December, so we refer back to that as opposed to the last budget because it's more accurate. So eighteen million dollars. He's also confident of delivering a new surtplus of one hundred and seventy nine million in the upcoming financial year in the lead up to the next state election. I think that's a notable number because my reading of the Media Budget review is that was meant to be a four hundred and forty nine million dollar cerpplus. So we've eaten into it this year and even by a larger margin, eaten into next years. You made the astute observation that might have a little something to do with the state election coming up. Well, yes, alternately, maybe we know that these heroic guestimates as to how much the Women's and Children's Hospital is going to cost to build are written on the back of a beer coaster with a crayon. But the only two things in Australia that aren't going up in price the South thrown upgrade and the new Women's and Children's Hospital. Everything else milk, bananas, blueberry, here's houses, here's what we need electricity. No, you're right, we need to formalize this. At some point in the next few days, we're going to get a prize and we're going to do the nearest to the pin on what's the date we stuck the new costings come out after the election next year. I've had the day after the election. We're going to do that, maybe even on election night. In the victory speech was delivered at seven oh one pm. We got some data out from the National Accounts yesterday about the state of the Australian economy. It is sick zero point two good way, no sick, not fully sick, no, just old fashion ill okay, zero point two percent GDP growth one point three percent throughout the year. So that means what that means is, yes, the economy is growing, which is what you're gonna hear Jim Chalmers say in a moment. But on a per capita basis, if you take out the fact that we're adding people per person, the Australia's GDP has now fallen one point seven percent over the last eleven quarters, according to the Compwealth Bank. That's the longest negative run of GDP per capita since the nineteen eighty one eighty two recession. Well, so if you if you're out there running a business. You think it feels tough, but keep getting told that things are okay. It is tough. It is seriously hard out there.
Here's Jim Charms.
Most of the rest of the world sees what's happening in Australia and they think that there are some very good things happening in Australia. I firmly believe there are good reasons to be optimistic about our economy. If I believe that Australia had peaked or at this was the best that we hope for, I wouldn't be here.
Well that's rubbish, I'm sorry. But the idea that there's other economies out there that are actually growing on both a a net and a per capita basis would look at astra and country. Our productivity went backwards again yesterday, backwards, not stagnant, backwards. We are less productive per unit of labor than we were at the last data set. The idea that people looking at us licking their lips with envy, well maybe they are, they're probably not. First of arise, got a beautiful sun, sunrise, So that's going on at the moment. Let's let's go to Hayden Nelson now though, because there's an update on an issue that's affected Adelaide overnight that we want to get to. There was a bomb scare at a Salisbury planes mac Is. Hayden Nelson has been at the scene and joins us. Now, Hayden, good morning to you.
Yeah, morning guys, morning days morning.
Will so just get us up to speed with what we've learned about this situation, the person involved, and just the area where this has happened.
Yeah, well just in the st shopping center. So this is the McDonald's on the corner of Saints Road and Maine North Road. Certainly not on the bingo cards for Dynasty last night and staff were at about eight pm where police alleged this forty four year old Parafield Gardens man who's gone inside threatened staff and customers saying he had a bomb in a backpack. He's then run back outside in the course of that, the staff have done done what they needed to do and evacuated the restaurant. So the customers have been taken outside and the bomb response cord has been brought in from response unit has been brought in from Staypol to look at that backpack. To deem it state. It's then been taken outside. In the process, police have been speaking to this man and he's now been charged with creating a false belief and he's been refused police bail.
Must have been terrifying for the staff because I guess the thing is you don't know whether the person's telling the truth or not about whether they've got a bomb.
Yeah, yeah, certainly, certainly. And their actions to make sure everyone was out there safely not knowing, you know, when you've got a backpack, sort of a nondescript backpack, not knowing what's inside it. Yeah, to make sure everyone was safe. And I know he's been charged with creating false belief, but he's got a wonder there are some pretty strict laws about violence against stuff in this state, whether it comes under that category, and whether that's something that prosecutors may consider a bit further down the line as well.
Yeah, well, good stuff. Hayden Hayden Elson. It's the Salisbury planes macers for seven years Adelaide. What about the photos we're getting from all over the state too, One from Lynn on her balcony in Nord. Then there's dallas Is.
On the footbridge by the Adelaide Oval with himself standing in the front of the photo. He says, it's a spectacular background, not so much of the foreground. Gwen, she sent a beautiful photograph in from Point Turton.
One here and the name given.
Three beautiful pictures though, Hey guys from the Southern Expressway. Even the Southern Expressway looks majestic under the beautiful How do you even describe the color of the sky.
Will It's beyond pink, isn't it. Yeah, yeah, it's.
Remarkable's like this sort of bright orange, just crazy moon to Bay Old Ranella, titty Witty Beach, Redwood Park. One just says, wow, don't know where it's taken. And Noel, we had that one before Brighton Railway station. So we've got a cross section of the Burbs, country towns, coastal inland.
You name it.
I just want to flag something very quickly before we go to the break here. This is a very serious story about criminality victims and how we treat people that come up for parole in Australia. Hannah Ford had a story on seven News last night. I want to frame this story this way.
And Thompson.
Was a victim of a serial rapist Joseph Jerome while we even talking about this guy getting out. I read this story last night and just went, why, why is this discussion happening?
Well, I just I want to start from her perspective.
So she receives correspondence last week that he's getting out today.
I didn't see his features. Had that as a Palla carboron. He pretty much said, don't maybe I've got a gun.
It's just taken a lot just to keep going.
Don't learn that.
So Anne Thompson's lived with this for decades. She was eighteen when she was attacked. She gets a letter from the Department of Prectional Services last week or by the way, Joseph Joe's been let out on Thursday, the fifth of June.
Even but they haven't.
They also admitted that this guy is completely unreformed, and he's shown no willingness to address his past behavior or change his ways. In twenty nineteen, he was assessed and it was found that he had schizophrenia, was unable to control his sexual urges, and just as Hinton determined that if he was released, you know, he would be unlikely to reoffend. I'm not sure they ultimately come to that decision. But why in the hell is this person being let out?
Well, this is this is an absolute Dictionary definition ultimate highest form of violence towards women. So on that continuum, you know, domestic violence, but what this guy has done over and over to women the ultimate form of violence to women. So how is it that as a society we talk about, yes, making boys more aware, you know, we talk about things like toxic masculinity, and you know, we talk about how people like Andrew Tait are completely undesirable. Like all of those conversations happen and we say, oh, you know what, Ribbon Day will cover the breakfast who's speaking at it? But what's the law doing to contribute when you look at it in this context? Have they not got my memo? Has this guy who's the absolute pinnacle, worst of the worst, Yeah, and he's going to be wandering around.
Attacked three women in nineteen ninety one, I tried to get another one in nineteen ninety five, been in jar for twenty eight years. And the woman who's carried that with her her whole life gets a pat phone call or emailed a letter, a letter, a letter. I just, by the way, that's just appalling. So the only Attorney General's Department has applied for an indefinite detention order. Yeah, we'll get on them, which is great. That'll be seen in the Supreme Court today. I'm intrigued that why that gets heard on the day gets released. Maybe it's a formality because it has to be if in the event that one isn't seen through today, they've got him on an extended supervision order, which will mean, according to the tisers reporting, that'll be have strict parole like conditions, including electro electronic monitoring. I just can't believe that so much time and effort is being dedicated to talking about this.
You wonder too, have the ag and good on kind Martha doing that and for intervening.
But do they.
Automatically find out or did they just were they told? Or do they have to have to learn of it because it creates the scenario that maybe if they didn't know, nothing would have happen. Well, well, I wonder about the timing of that. I'd be interested to hear from someone from the Attorney General's office to just fill us in on this. Can you only apply for the indefinite detention order on the day they get released or could have we done this two weeks ago and save Dan Thompson the corrections letter.
I don't know. I'm interested to know that.
I don't know the answer to that question, but maybe someone from the Tenor General's office could let us know.
Great shot from day mao.
Beautiful.
What about the backdrop.
He's outside the Reef Plumbing store in Lonsdale and the industrial estate there.
What a combination.
You've got this industrial estate in the foreground and the behind it, the clouds and the sky just looks like some spectacular paintings.
People coming in.
We're going to put them up as a montage at some point this morning on the Facebook and YouTube.
LiF's dream.
Let's check traffic register for the Big Branch because everybody counts go to the Big Brunch drive Doc.
David Penberthy and Will Goodings six to line five, double a Breakfast.
Well it's a Thursday morning. Time to start thinking about footy. I reckon in recent time the Thursday nights have stolen the glory of Friday night footy a bit. Well not this week, because all eyes in Adelaide are on Friday Night with Crows and the Lions. Ryan Fitzgerald will be watching along and he's got all your tips covered over the next ten minutes fifty Good morning to you.
Hallelujah.
We finally get a Friday night game and it's a blockbuster when we needed as well. Actually, I don't know if you boys saw on Fox Footy the other night, but they finally released you know, that little premiership window that they do, which has been a quadring at yes, which has been accurate I think for the last sixteen out of eighteen.
Premierships, and the Crows are on top of that one.
I don't want to, I don't want to get too excited, but it is.
It's it's just good to.
Know that Nixy's got them in the right spot at the moment. How long we can sustain that for up, that's up to them. But it's exciting to watch.
So Fitzy last week obviously the Ryan Fitzgerald Cup, Adelaide v the rabble. What's the worst thing anyone ever called you when you were playing?
First of all, like I can understand the club just want to quash all that stuff.
They don't want to be mixed up with that. But it wasn't that bad.
And you know, Wayne Miller, I didn't mean it, but oh god, I've been called worse.
I mean I had Rodney Edis coach.
But actually I remember when I got traded back to.
The Adelaide Crows. Do you know who wasn't a fan of me? And if he was off.
You, he used to get stuck into your big time curls, Neil Curley used to get stuck in the knuckles. Yes, knuckles. Why did we pick up Fitzgerald? He's given nothing up ford knuckles.
Well that's rough coming from the king, did you about it? Mate? Well?
Do you know?
This is a very funny story.
But he he was the one that actually got rid of my old man at the Bays in the early seventies as well.
So he he.
Got stuck into my dad and then he got stuck.
Into early Fitzgerald feud. It's the general.
From generation to generation, the FitzGeralds have been absolutely slayed by the curlies.
He's grabbed us by the curlies.
The short ends. I'nbelievable.
Hey mate, we'll rip into the We'll rip into the tips. So tonight's game this should be good too, the Dogs and the Hawks. Oh, this is going to be a great game. Just The Hawks are way off at the moment.
They will rebound at some stage, but the Bulldogs have had a week off so they'll be a bit refreshed.
I'm going to go the Bullies. So Tomorrow night, mate, massive game of the round. What's going to happen? Oh, this is going to be huge.
I would hope that the hometown advantage gets us over the line. Very even game, but because we're at home or the weather play into Brisbane's hands.
Their midfield is very good. But no, I'm going to go the Crows to win this game.
Then the Tigers versus the Swan.
Surely this one is going to come out of the point to prove after the debacle last week.
This is the it's at the Boys. Yeah, I don't know. I think Richmond's going to win this one.
I'm going to pick the Tigers at home, then the Cats and the Suns. Then in Geelong.
Yeah, it's in Geelong, so I'm going to go the Cats. The Sons were a bit off last week. They might have a bit of a run where they lose a couple of games.
The Cats and then Porte have to travel to Canberra for the first game for them after the buye against the Giants at Marnik Roval.
Yeah, Giants were coming off the back of Callum Ward. He's done his knee and looks like his career is over as well. They'll fire up, so the Giants will win that game.
The North and the Eagles.
I don't even know where this is hands Oval, Where's hands Oval, Bunbury. It's in w A Yeah, down down south of Perth.
Ah gosh, So that'll be great good luck to all the eighty eighty people that are going to this game on the weekend. I would say North album will win that game against the West Coast Eagles.
And then Carlton Essendon at the g.
Yeah, this is going to be a blockbuster as well. Carlton will bounce back.
I'll go the Blues and finally on the public holiday Monday, God Save the King.
Melbourne versus the Pies.
Yeah, this is going to be a closer game than you think. But I just Collingwood just a supreme at the moment. The way they've been run, even if they have a bad patch, they always find their way back.
So I'll go the Pies to beat the D's Good on your mate, thanks, VIZI will chatting in next week. Mate, good on your boys. I'll speak to you then.
Thank you.
David Penberthy and Will Goodings six to nine five double A breakfast.
I was.
I'mgging, here is the receiving you're eating the doors?
I tell you what any bosses axt and he wondered to not turning up the day of the bump mats.
And he is spinning around this morning because he's hours away from just commandeering the budget lock up with Stephen Mulligan. David will be there as well. It's going to be a big morning, big day in state politics. Before we get to that, Matt and good morning to you, I just want to shout out a text that sort of goes to the infinite reach of view in this segment, and it comes to us from Gabby. Gabby texted about something he said last week. Gabby said, please pass us on to Man. On last Thursday's chat, he mentioned the little religious shop on Findon Road. I'm the owner of that little shop with lots of rosaries, Christian supplies, adelaide. We sell many different religious items in the shop, which is open to the public. I would come from a list into five double A from the time I wake up at five thirty am to six pm every day. And how about this, anyone who today mentions matt Abraham's name, we'll receive ten percent.
Off any rosary bead purchase.
My wife Rachel also work with Matthew at the Catholic Church office. Regards Gabby Christian Supplies Adelaide. Good on you, Gabby. See what about that? Everyone's listening.
I'm bless her you, Gabby.
I love the idea of the crazy Rosary beat sale.
Rosary beat they go, you buy mine, I'll give you one Rosary beat free. I've gone crazy. Cunningham's Catholics.
And this is a true story of one of the Archbishop PHILP. Wilson, the late Archbishop Philip Wilson, who whose lawyer banned me from having any contact with him or the church.
But let's put that aside.
He he he said he once went into you know, he had the cross crucifix on the full crucifix and he went into a country survey on a trip and the girl sitting behind the counter, the one behind the count, said, I've got one of those, point to his cross, but mine doesn't have the little man on it.
Anyway, Off just mention's name. People will do that getting brace yourself.
You can have a busy day anyway, where were we It's budget day.
It is budget day, Matt, and you're going to be there.
Yes, yes, I won't be commandeering it unless you can commandeer a budget lock up from the back of the room.
No.
Two was cast a thousands there though. Yeah, yeah, there is all the treaty.
It's a set piece, isn't it. I mean we do. I know we've said this before, but it is a It is a set piece where you go into the some sort of palatial room at the Adelaid Convention Center with views over our gorgeous city and get about ten minutes to have a cup of two or something or whatever you want, and then the Treasurer gets up and talks you through his budget with a big white board thing, you know, PowerPoint presentation, which is exactly what is in front of you as you're reading it. But that's okay. So that goes for about well it.
Feels like how it does go for about it now, Yeah, and then there's a press conference after that.
Then they have a little braakman. There's a press conference.
You get your quotes.
Yeah, and but before the treasure gets up. The Premier arrives and tells us how wonderful the treasure is. They went to university together, their mates, and off they go. Trust him like a brother from another mother. But this story in the TiSER today, and I heard you talking about it driving on the way in that the incredibly shrinking budget surplus, which was going to be one hundred and seventy something and who's counting one hundred and seventy eight hundred and seventy two has come down to eighteen million, which is it's nothing. It's not really a surplus loose change, you know they probably got it was probably in deficit. And he said the Treasurer can't go in there, you know, because mal Lawskis was on you know, five double a breakfast with Pember and Will only twenty four hours earlier saying, well we you know, we've returned pluses in every three years and it's going to be surpluses for the rest of the rest of our living sort of eternity while I'm premier, which are both the same thing, and can you find me a serving, and the treasure going okay, okay, well maybe if we cut out a few press six we can come up with eighteen million for a few payments, for a few payments, don't pay contract any No, no, they wouldn't have cut them out, so and yeah, so you come up with eighty million dollars. I'm being a bit cynical here, but it's not hard to find in this massive, multi billion dollar budget eighteen million dollars stuck in the hollow log somewhere.
What about Will's point though about the future surplus projections, Yeah, projected to be four than forty nine million at the midyear budget review. It's down to well, according to the Treasury himself this morning, and it's been at the advertis it's down to one hundred and seventy nine dollars.
As though, that's this is a fantastic turnaround from eighteen million to one hundred and seventy nine, where it's actually from four hundred million to one hundred and seventy nine, And it won't be one hundred and seventy nine.
But I'm going to get my calcul later out.
Don't do maths on air, journo maths. So this is what we're faced with in a budget. One of the excuses in inverted commas he gives is that they had to rescue the Whaler Steel Works. Well, the money to rescue, from my reading of it, unless I missed something, the money to rescue the Whaler Steel Works came from the money that was ear mark for the big hydrogen project, which has been put on ice.
Correct.
So it shouldn't have been an extra expenditure, is what you're saying.
It shouldn't be at all.
And the.
That sort of went nowhere, the hydrogen project and the State Prosperity Project, which was all part of the hydrogen thing that's vanished up up someone's clacker. I suppose you know in Treasury. It's not to put too fine a point on us. I didn't really mean to say that, but.
Job writing headlines for the engine years.
I missed my calling. I missed my calling. But do you remember the State Prosperity Project?
He doesn't.
They had beer mats and beer coasters.
Advertiser would they get they could have outf a billion dollars for the giant wrap around ads that ran.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, they were high fiving, thank you very much.
It was probably your Clive Farmer ring it up. There's got a bit of money like to spend.
Only if you ensis cly so. Yeah, So there we are that there's money washing everywhere in a big budget. One of the things that we will be washing everywhere will be state debt that I think is projected to hit forty billion dollars roughly.
Yeah, I reckon it'll be closer to fifty. Yeah.
Okay, Well, look what's ten billion among friends?
Really?
Our population isn't ten times out of Tasmania?
Is it? No?
No, about three or three or four?
Yeah? But isn't now? Is it?
So?
Isn't there debt potentially ten times the size of their debt?
It's probably less.
It's more you compare it to debt to revenues the kind of way you generally would compare it, not debt to population.
And I reckon, I've.
Thought of a line for a piece I'm going to do for the O's tomorrow, don't you reckon? Guys that if say you've got like a bit of a drinking problem, it helps if your next door neighbors are George Best and Keith Moon, because everything's relative in life, and the fact that it sort of doesn't matter to a degree how profligate or reckless. Steve Mullikan and Peter mallenous because are with their money, they're never going to look as bad as Victoria.
That's right.
Yeah, And you put that to the premier and oh no, no, no, they we're a lot better than Victoria. I'm paraphrasing him here. He mentioned by the way debt to debt to revenue. He said, this is the important fact that there are several ways of measuring debt. You can have debt to revenue, you can have debt to gross state product, and you pick the one that you want. So debt to state product is how much you make as a day, how much you export, all that sort of gear, how much activity you generate compared to how much debt you're carrying. Debt to revenue if you look bad up most of the big sites, say for a company or a government, a comfortable level of debt to revenue, in other words, how much debt you're caring and how much money you're making. Now, in the case of a government, they're making the money from US tax payers largely and big corporations, but there's payroll tax, there's land tax, there's stamp duty, all that sort of caper. So your debt to revenue the comfortable level should be around thirty or forty percent. Right ours is very close to ninety percent, and it's projected to over the next four years get to one hundred and ten percent. When it gets over one hundred percent, that means that you are borrowing money to pay your interest payments. So your revenue isn't covering your interest payments. You are borrowing money to pay your inter payments. And that's what we're doing.
By thirty June twenty twenty eight, non financial public sectors, forget that debt to revenue one hundred and thirty four point five percent.
That's right, it's meant to be thirty, thirty or forty percent. That's what Rory's type was comfortable. Then we're told, I know, fifty is okay. And then and this is by the way, Rob Lucas, you know, coming up, coming up, so it's not exclusively a labor thing. Then we were told, oh, you know, sixty is okay. Oh seventies getting towards a tipping point that's uncomfortable. No, we're going to be We're going to be over one hundred percent. And as you said, in two to three years time, nearly one hundred and forty percent. That's amazing.
The treasure is danger.
The danger here is that the well everyone else is doing it argument seems to be holding a sway because I mentioned Victoria, but New South Wales is in a similar boat, and we've now got the state labor governments all over the country that are borrowing heavily to pay for infrastructure.
On the never and ever, the Treasurer will argue.
The spin on this today will be interest repayments won't be higher despite the debt going higher because of reduced borrowing costs at the moment, So expect to hear a bit about that today despite the net debt figure going out. Hey, we're going to take a quick break. We'll come back in more with more, just a moment register of the Big Brunch, because everybody counts go to the Big Brunch.
Drive dot Com.
David Penberthy and Will Goodings six to nine, five Double A Breakfast six.
To eight, Matt Abraham and the five Double A Breakfast Studio.
Lots of good text coming throw on zero four eight, zero eight thirteen ninety five as Matt takes us through his thoughts on the state. But do you want to get the spin? Matt any any other loose thoughts before we round it out.
No, let's hop into a little bit of spin. Matts, now, machete laws, I want you. The first bit of spin is from Premier Peter mault nawskis in an excellence on an excellent breakfast program yours yesterday, day before Tuesday times when you're having fun, So on Tuesday, when we'll have a listen to this because this is this is this is sort of almost pure spin, because it shows a politician who's able to sort of begin to answer the question, pivot into bagging his opponent, and then get back on track seamlessly, seamlessly have listened to this.
Vincent Tarzi was saying yesterday labor must bear mashitties.
Today, Oh well, well, well, I think Vince has.
Got to start to pay a bit of attention to the legislation that passes through the Parliament that he supports. I mean, they voted for this, These are the toughest. I mean, if they weren't so obsessed with their internal divisions and culture wars, he'd probably have a bit more time available to himself to pay attention to the legislation that he votes for. We've got the toughest knife laws in the country.
Back on track, how slap slap slap?
And you know, you know mister Tazi's in trouble when when they use the full first name, so you know it's like you're in trouble with.
Your mum when you.
So vincent that is, well, we've got next zero policy, but I am giving that ten out of ten. Now we're fully expecting today. Well, we know that debt will go up, and it has gone up in the past three budgets, the first three budgets of Stephen Mulligan, debt has gone up. And if anybody says to him, why can't you reduce debt? I think he might have to channel the former UK Prime Minister Therese May.
Sadly, I have not been able to do so I tried three times.
It wouldn't it be great if he does that? Sadly And I'm going to be I've got a clue. But people use that, you know, why don't you give up alcohol? And that's a believe that they bump up there. Anyway, three budgets, three out of ten.
Matts mat Our abd and correspondent Dave Lloyd's texting in he said he's got an idea to reduce state debt. He said, what we do is we buy all the rosary beads today at ten percent off and then sell them next week at full price.
Should we send that one food to the treasury? Do you think? Well?
I mean, I think they've got enough stock down at you I think so the Christian Supplies shop on Finder and.
Rud Well they have for now, wait and see, wrote tell Dave and Willson get down there. As for the five double a price, well, enjoy the biscuits and the coffee.
Then thank you very much.
We've seen a few hours.
Man dress code smart case is a dress cod?
Should I have you ever worried about?
David Penberthy and will Goodings six to line five double a breakfast?
Hey, minutes after ike break you ain't coming up. In just a moment, we have clue number two for you right here and now. In our competition to send a listener after the wed Sundays with flights, accommodation and experiences taken from taking care for thanks to Jetstar. Fly direct from Adelaide with Jetstar and under three hours to the whit Sunday's Good Way to Escape Winter Book now at Jetstar dot com. We're gonna have six people on a standby list. We have one as of yesterday. You when the third, the third clue comes through, have a chance to call in and guess the location that each clue has been pointing to. If you get it right, you're on the list. Today's clue we've already given one. He's clue number two. Its former name was discontinued in nineteen eighty nine. So this location's former name was discontinued in nineteen eighty nine. So combined with clue number one, that might narrow it down a bit. Clue number three, I think will give it away, and that's coming up after eight thirty this morning with Sunday strip. Could be you don't miss out, stay listening and give us a call after eight thirty when we reveal clue number three. Well, it feels the early A month goes by without some news story breaking over a council, be it a city council, a regional council, or country council, where there's been some major blow up involving staff members and councilors haranguing and abusing each other. Often these disputes end up coming at a cost to the rate payers as well, because I can think of at least four councils off the top of my head, including the Adelaide City Council, where they have to call in the lawyers to mediate and the people who live in those council areas end up paying for all of this rat baggery.
Well SA best MLC.
Connie Bnarus thinks that it's time to have a proper look at the impact and frequency of this type of workplace harassment, not just abuse, but also sexual harassment in the local government sector. And we've got Connie on the line now. Connie, good morning, and thanks for joining us for breaking at eight. As I was saying at the start, there's no shortage of these stories.
There is there, Yeah, good morning, thanks for having me. There is no shortage. It's feeling more like a weekly basis now. Just yesterday we had a mayor design. We've heard account after account in recent weeks of these things making their way into the public realm. I think the starting point should be, though, that we have an Equal Opportunity Commission there and their job is to lift the lids on these sorts of things. Up until a few years ago, the EQ Opportunity Act didn't even apply to local government, it didn't apply to MPs and didn't apply to the legal profession. And we fixed that in twenty one I moved amendments to that and since then we've had two inquiries, one into Parliament and one into the legal profession. Two into the legal profession in fact, looking at these exact sorts of issues, and people ask well, why the Equal Opportunity Commissioner. They're the best body to look at this. They're independent, they're impartial, and their job is to go into workplaces like this and professions like this, the lid on the sorts of systemic and cultural issues that exist around harassment, bullying, sexual harassment, and actually identify where the cracks and the problems are and find ways to fix them.
Does it fun to you, Connie, that there might be a bit of a lack of professionalism in the local government sector where the rigor that exists in other workplaces where people are frequently forced and rightly to attend meetings reminding them of their rights and their responsibilities at work, that that hasn't been happening enough.
Yeah, I do, and people might disagree with me on that, but it's not different to politics, is it. In that respect, It's exactly the same in fact and the legal profession, and we almost hold ourselves to a different standard and we think some of these things are okay, which is why I move those changes in the first place, because one should that's the exempt from those thoors. There was no logic between it in that and in fact, the first you know, the justifications given when those laws were first introduced were well, we need robust debate and we've got things like parliamentary privilege and privilege of applies and you know judiciary and local government should be above those sorts of issues. Well we're not, and they're not, and that's been proven. I think when I first introduced this motion at the beginning of the year, you know, I had an inkling that this was getting worse and we would reach a tipping point. So I've let it sit there in the hope that people would speak out more. I didn't quite anticipate how many people would speak out. There were five mayors in the chamber yesterday.
And that's only a handful five.
And the president of the Local Government Association, she was there, Heather Ross Holmes was she was there in supportively. I've spoken to the Adelaide city lord mayor, I've spoken to the mayor of nor would pay them and Saint he has actually said to me that it has never been worse in terms of toxic culture and bullying and harassment as it is now.
On Kaparinga was a basket case for a long time. If you look anywhere on the map. Yeah, that's right, t tre Gully burnside. There's so many that spring to mind.
But you're quite right, Dave. Do you want to be putting the bill for that? And I don't think great payers think that that's a good use of their money. I've got one local counselor who has refused to let local council pay her legal fee. She's paying it out of her own pocket. And in that particular instance, we've got a counsel who has spent in excess of four hundred thousand dollars apparently on legal fees. Now it's not just legal fees, it's investigators, it's mediators, and we're not taking into account the toll that this is having on those individuals and the weaponization that I talked of yesterday, because we know, like politics, this can be very factional and very deliberate in terms of targeting members in council for particular outcomes. That takes its toll on a person. And you know, these are elected people. We put them there to provide, to represent our communities and to do a job for us in the community and to provide services. I don't want my rate pays being spent on that, and I don't think your listeners do either.
One hundred percent. There's a great idea, Connie. We're glad that we got you on today to flesh it out. Connie banaras sa best MLC. Thanks for joining us for breaking at eight. I love this text. How's this for some lateral humor from Bianca in Summertown. Bianca writes, something still resonating with me this morning, just thinking about the police report about the Maca's bomb hoax, with the offender being charged with quote creating a false belief. Reflecting on that as here slapping on my makeup for the day. It's like a guy in a Suite's like a middle aged guy in a suit.
Yeah, gez, you look good. You should see me when I'm not in a suit. The Commission needs to put out a statement. I think they're just calm people about creating a false belief today. There's a lot of it going on there is. There is a lot of it going on, particularly with you know, touched up photographs all of that.
Oh yeah look good, Yeah, exactly right.
A little bit different seven am when you wake up next to me, God, what have I done?
Perish all right?
Tomorrow we are two weeks out from our best of SA big gala dinner at the Adelaide Oval, and each and every day the lead up we are celebrating some great South Australian businesses and as we hear from them each time, of course you've got an opportunity to win two tickets plus This morning as we celebrate the WA you could win a one hundred do WA giftbou Chief you call in now in eight double two three double O, double O. We love Today.
I'm at the WEA headquarters in Street talking with Leslie Venning, their CEO.
Leslie.
There are so many courses available here at WA.
What's new?
So in this guide we've got book binding for beginners, Traditional medicines for women's health, personal financial management. That's just three of about fifty so lots to choose from.
Now you mentioned the new guide. It's out and where can we find it?
So the guide is out this week, it's in the weekend papers and here at the WBA, and of course there's copies online that you can download and look through as well.
Do you have any idea of how many actual courses you run.
It's over one thousand courses a year, and last year it was over ten thousand enrollments.
That is amazing. You started over one hundred years ago. How have you been so successful over that many years.
I think part of our success is moving with the times, changing what courses are available, and moving with what's interesting people at the time. So a few years ago it might have been your rental property, now it's subdividing your block. So as interests change, we change what we're offering, and.
At the core of learning a new language remains there.
That's right.
We have over twenty five languages that we offer every year, both fun and travel which are short courses and year long courses as well.
But you're actually a licensed travel agent.
We are.
We offer about twelve local and overseas destinations a year, and they're educational and cultural tour groups.
Okay, the guide is out. Just remind us where we can get a copy from.
Weekend papers here at the WA. Our website is www dot we A hyphen sa dot com dot Au, or you can pick it up here at the building.
Leslie, I love catching up with you and learning about what's new here at the WEA.
Thank you very much for coming, Jane.
Spiag.
Congrats to Paul and Paralleow. We will see you on the big night. You've got that one hundred dollar WA gift voucher as well to coming your way for face to face learning. You'll genuinely enjoy this something for everyone at w EA. Visit w e A s A dot com dot Au. You did a course, didn't you. I've done courses there, did you Polish language? You've done cooking there? Yeah, it was great. I did it years ago and it was a lady called Cloudier who was from Mexico City, and it was sort of Mexican home cooking. And some of the recipes that she taught me, well, did you memorize them? Things like simple Mexican rice, which is the nice accompaniment for any Mexican stew or just on the side with cemential artis or something like that.
But cloudy.
It was lovely and they're affordable too at a time when you know you feel like you're getting fleeced every time you leave the house. One of those WEA courses.
What you get out of it, like the residual, life changing benefits of it, and it's also a really good.
Way to meet people.
There were absolutely there are a couple of girls in our group who were receptionists and they were just like the party girls. They'd turned up with a two leader cask of Freddy Alexia every Thursday. And yeah, from memory, I think one of the chaps who was in the course too and they ended up dating.
It's a good way to.
Meet people there. You go many many reasons to go to do a WEA goods. We're going to take a break. We'll check traffic first on the other side of it. Throughout the morning, we've been referencing Port Wakefield in our concerns for the future of that town and the concerns coming out of that town following the closure of the seven Point pork meat process. Are two hundred and seventy jobs lost cataclysmic for that town. When we're crossing there in just a moment, register of the big brunch because every bike counts. Go to the Big Bunch Drive dot Com.
David Pemberthy and Will Goodings six to nine five double a Breakfast.
Twenty three minutes after right.
We opened the show just about this morning talking about Port Wakefield. Two hundred and seventy jobs set to be lost with the closure of the seven point pork processing facility there that will take place in January next year. There about one hundred and sixty people who live in the regional council area that will lose jobs as well. Rodney Reid is the mayor of the Wakefield Regional Council and joins us now Rodney, good morning to.
You, Good morning David and Will so Man.
We're just trying to wrap our heads around this because proportionally to lose that many jobs in the city, the size the Port Wakefield, it really is a massive hit, isn't it.
It certainly is. It is our largest employer in.
Our council district, in the whole district, wow.
In our Wakefield Regional Council.
Yet in terms of those job losses, like is there is there is there any light on the horizon in terms of the types of jobs that the men and women who work there could be able to transfer to.
Some of them are quite specific to obviously the abbatoirs situation, and my understanding is the company will look to relocate some to other abbatoirs. That doesn't help us as a region, which that will take our residents away from us. Some of them would be general trade skills which I'm sure would be transferable, as would administration type roles as well.
Mayor are their concerns for businesses that aren't directly related to, but are somewhat effectively adjacent to the port processor there the viability of jobs and businesses that existed because you had this huge bulk of people going to work in one.
Area, well, certainly every business will be impacted some ways. If you look at some of the food outlets in Port Wakefield itself, the fuel outlets, they will be impacted because they won't have the passing traffic. About one hundred and sixty of the workers are residents to our council district. That means there's one hundred and ten traveling in to Port Wakefield every day to work there. It also impacts on sporting groups. It will impact on Balaclava, which is a larger shopping center where people our residents would be shopping. It will impact on numbers across all organizations within our communities.
Is there any way that to help the community to maintain numbers, to maintain population and has there been any thought given to talking to the state government and talking to the private sector as well about maybe attracting some new business or even shifting like a even a government department or something there so that there is that critical mass of people to keep the population up in Port Lakefield.
As a council, we're proactive in promoting our district and trying to bring new businesses into our region all the time. We know that we're very agricultural focused. We've got land availability that's already zoned for commercial and industrial usage. So we're all ready out there promoting ourselves trying to attract people into our district. We're promoting it as a place, a great place to live, a great place to work. We're in close proximity to the city, to the Copper Coast, to the river, to the Barossa, the Clare Valley. We've got lots of things in our favor. So this is a real blow that will set us backward.
Yeah, Well, anything we can do to help mayor stay in touch with us because it's a wonderful part of the state. And yeah, hopefully this hit, and it is a big one, can somehow be absorbed and the city will keep prospering. Rodney read the Mayor of Wakefield Regional Council.
There it's twenty seven minutes after right. We're going to take a break. Five double news is coming up. On the other side of it. Jimmy Barnes is in town. He's playing at the Entertainment Center Theater on Saturday night. We'll be joining us on five double Breakfast.
Next David Pemberthy and Will Goodings six to nine five double a breakfast.
We agree. Bit, it's the night before nine o'clock.
We've got clue number three for you in a chance to win a holiday to the Wit Sundays, all thanks to Jetstar. Two clues thus far. A third coming up. You'll be the second person on the short list. There's only going to be six of you, big big chants if you managed to correctly identify the secret location before nine o'clock this morning. That is not too far away. But first, one of the legends of Australian music, Jimmy Barnes, who is going to be in Adelaide for the Saturday night concert as part of the Defiant Tour at the Entertainment Center and is tomorrow releasing a whole bunch of new music on the new album titled Just Like the Tour Defiant. Jimmy Barnes, Good morning to you.
Getting Hayes.
How are you?
Yeah, We're great, Jimmy, Great to catch up with you again. We always love our chats twenty.
First studio album.
Yeah, I've been around for a while. How do you just been very busy?
That's all, you know, But where does it come from? How do you keep going?
Because a lot of people say, well, you know, you made your point musically, Well, true.
No, you knows. As a songwriter, you just want to keep writing songs.
You know, For me as a live performer, I really like, you know, to spice up the show all the time and keep the show you know, exciting for the punters and all that. And as a predominant live performer, one of the things I need is new songs to go into the set.
So, you know, writing albums really is sort of you.
Know, leads to that, but it's also it's really satisfying to get get a great group of songs, I mean, you know, buzzing around in your head and get them actually down on tape and get them out to the public and see how people like and see if they connect with them.
You know a lot of people listen to music when they're working out and doing exercise, you being a fitness for it these days, do you write the music while you're working out?
Well, you know, sometimes happens, the weirdest thing happens in the hospital, happens everywhere, you know, you get I get ideas for songs, you know, you know, driving in the car anywhere. You know, just you know, quite often because you have to sit still on an airplane for you know, like if you're flying around the place.
I quite often get ideas for the and songs on the airplane.
And you know, the beauty of the iPhone is I can just sort of type in some lyrics or hummer melody into the phone and then come back.
To it when I get home.
But I don't know if I've actually I've never really been. I'm too busy gasping for breath when I'm working out too.
Because about the ods the other day, you have gotten into fitness later in life.
Well, well, you know, I'm just I'm sixty nine. I tried really how to keep fits. So you know, I'd like to get up and I've been swimming a lot, you know, every day, and you know, particularly because I had I had some problems with you know, I had a heart surgery and I had hip surgery in all that over the last three years. And so it's really important to be a balance back from that because if you if you don't do the physio, if you don't do some don't do some fitness, you know, things are stepping up and you'll get sore and all what's And I intend to be working for a while and I'm enjoying what I do join my life. So yeah, I just you know, I want to be as as possible. You know, I'm probably fitter now than I was when I was when I was thirty five.
You know.
I read that place that we'll just mentioned Jim and in the os on on Saturday, and it had some, like others, very positive reviews of the of the new album Defiant, But there was one sentence that actually really jumped out at me. And thinking about your life trajectory and you know, it's a matter of record. You wrote about it yourself in your book, particularly the Chiosewl book, the second book, Working class Man, about how wildlife was on the road. I thought it was good advice for people who haven't necessarily been abstemious, that you're you're never too old to go. I can sort myself out here.
Well.
You know.
The thing is, you know, like people think, oh, you know, I've been smoking for you know, thirty years, and what's the point of stopping now? If you stop now, you're going to feel better, you know, if you've been hammering yourself drinking for you know, or what partying for forty years, you know, anytime you stop, it's going to make you're going to you're going to feel a change. You may take a few months to sort of feel the change, but it's never too late, never too late to change the lifestyle.
You know.
I just think, you know, you know, you know, some old people sort of grow at different times, and so you know, when you're when people are ready to get healthy and focused, you know, you know, you've always got a chance to do it. And you know, and even if it's late in your life, you can go. You know what I've still got things I want to do. I want to stick around, see my grandkids or whatever it is, you know, and and and you know, for me, you know, I was wild for a long time there, you know, drinking all the time and all that sort of stuff.
And I can't imagine being like that now.
Okay, you know, I'm so happy being focused and clear headed and all that sort of stuff.
And it makes my job a lot easier.
Do you mentioned big fitter now than you were when you were in your thirties, And you mentioned also wanting to tour for a lot longer at the age of sixty nine. I've always wondered how physically taxing is a night performing? Is it being on tour? Is it exhausting? And you are you better or less capable of doing it than you were?
Oh?
It's pretty full on.
But it's always been full on, you know normally, you know, you know, in the old days, i'd sort of gone come off stage and collapse and all that sort of.
I'm pretty good these days. You know, I've got to tame myself.
I you know, I you know, I like to go when I go on stage, I like to give one hundred percent. So I don't want to go up there and do it half assed, so you know what I mean. So you know, I really it's all about preparation. So if I do the right prep you know, like I've been training for this tour and stuff like that, you know, then you know, you know, sure you're going to be worn out, but you'll be You'll still be you know, I'm good. I finished a show and I'm great, and go home and you know, happy and healthy and all that sort of stuff and ready for the next one, because quite often we do multiple shows the Doe in a few days in a row, you know, for two or three days in a row, and lots of traveling in between.
So you've got to got to stay focused.
Jim Jimmy, You've you've you've had a wonderful relationship with the Chisel guys, and you've had parents where you've done the solo work. Then the band's well, it's not a case of getting back together. The band has never has always been able to read. But what's the status with Chisel now is there?
Could you do you see future work still on the horizon with the rest of the guys, Well.
You know, I'm going to say that just the you know, the last tour of that fiftieth anniversary tour we did was so so much fun.
It was so joyous.
I mean, feud have told us that fifty years earlier, that we'd we'd be still playing music in fifty years and still be pulling big crowds.
Irrelevant, we were to laugh, But it was so great.
The band was firing, we were playing as well as we've ever played. You know, the audiences were just so incredibly sort of you know, they're just hungry for it, you know, hungry to hear those songs. So I think, as long as the audience is like that, and as long as we are you know, as long we know we get on better than we ever have, you know. But the you know, we were sort of like you know that I hate to say that.
We've grown up. You know, it took fifty years, but you know, literally when you get to the point.
Where you realize, you know, we've lost like Steve along the way, our drama, our dear friend, and we've lost dear friends along the way. But the fact that we're still here and we're able to play, we sort of realized that this is that's a real gift and so we don't take it for granted. So I wouldn't say that you won't see us again because you know, I'd love to play some more with cultures, or because of just so much fun.
And what's your relationship like with Adelaide these days? You've spoke in often. Well, you know, I read the book Heartbreaking Fashion about the toughness of your youth in Adelaide's North.
Yeah, you know, there was a there was a period there where, you know, when I was all when it was when I was dealing with all the past and abuse and violence and all that sort of stuff that that Adelaide sort of was was looming over me.
And it was a bit dark for a while.
But but but after it's funny, after writing those books and getting that stuff out of me, you know, I've sort of got to the point now where you know, I go back there and I can you know, I feel you know, the connection to the place I can feel.
I don't just remember the bad things anymore.
I remember all the all the you know, the good things are just running wild with your mates and you know when you're a kid and playing football and all that.
Sort of stuff. You know, I remember all the good things as well known.
And I've got some dear friends, and I've got family in Adelaide, and and so I go back now and I feel the connection to the place, you know, I know I talked recently, I got back to Elizabeth.
You know, whenever I get a chance of.
I'm driving through, the 'll pop in and even there where where it was so I was so full of fear as a child, you know, I feel I feel a warmth now about it. You know, I can sort of I can move on from from the trauma and and and just you know, remember being a kid and running, running free in the streets there, you know.
Yeah, well, it's going to be great having you back on the weekend. And also importantly, we should stress the first taste of the album, to Find is being released tomorrow, which is the double single New Day. So I'm sure a lot of our listeners will want to jump on and listen to that. But Jimmy Wills love talking to you, mate, all the best for the tour.
Listen, mate, I can't think of a better place to start the two than Adelide. So we're gonna we're gonna be rocking tomorrow night. We finished rehearsals yesterday the band's kick cooking sounds.
Great, fantastic. Good Jimmy, you guys are the best, you too, thank you. I love talking that like that.
He's just awesome and he he's so good, he's so natural. Yeah, that was terrific when that book came out. We did that thing up at the Mount Library and packed, absolutely packed and just you say, totally candid about what he's been through. But what a catalog songs, the sale work.
Which will work. It's just yeah, it's so Australian man. It is great, great history here in Adelaide of course as well. For sure. All right, we're gonna take a break. Well, chick traffic.
I'm just having a look at the clue, the final clue in our competition this morning to put someone on the shortlist to win a trip to the Wits Sundays. It's coming up on the other side of this break, Let's check traffic. Register for the Big Brunch, because every boake counts. Go to the Big Brunch. Drive dot Com.

Last night a few of the people down at the protests were interviewed, and you don't get deep into the roster of issues that they have before Elon Musk's politics come up. Yeah, in fact, you got the set prominent Donald Trump critic. Now, oh, I know, I think these people did update their perspective last night. He was talking about the big beautiful Bill, as Donald Trump has been calling and how it's basically making Americans into debt slaves. I think was his tweet overnight.
I got to say good on him for having a crack, But I got an email yesterday from the organizers of the protest yesterday. Now you mentioned that you had it, you had it on TV last night.
Will here we go?
Here's the intro.
Today, a group of twenty seven community members gathered out front of the City of carr In to express their concerns over the council's decision.
Bloody blahodyh blah.
Today, a group of I mean, at least they're honest about their numbers. Today, a group of twenty seven. Just repeat, there's ninety four thousand ratepayers in the Marian Council area. I remember, as Paul Kelly said, from little things, big things grow. Maybe that's the hope for the twenty seven who were there, because it doesn't. It doesn't feel like a sort of overwhelming grassroots.

Dozens is the word you want there? Yeah, because it's two dozen plus three, So you could have. I would have if I was pressed to put a number on it. Yeah, but it's twenty seven. It's twenty seven.
But you know, they're got as much right to express their views the other the ninety it was much right to express their opinion as the ninety three thousand, nine hundred and eighty three people who didn't express an opinion seventy three seventy Sorry they didn't get that wrong.
And with that, I reassure you that I'll be your guy counting the numbers today for the five double a Breakfast audience inside the state budget lockup. Have fun with Matt Abraham and the lockup.
