Did you know Australia is home to two distinct First Nations people?  

Across a tiny stretch of water from the tip of Cape York Peninsula in Queensland's north, lies a group of islands which is home to Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Torres Strait Islander elders campaigned many years ago to ensure the survival and maintenance of their customs and traditions, collectively referred to as Ailan Kastom.

As a general rule, whether it's Baker Boy, Archie Moore or Aswan Reid, there are cultural protocols that should be observed.  It's so important, the country's leading arts body, Creative Australia developed a guide to protect Indigenous traditional and contemporary expressions of culture and knowledge.  

In this episode, Wiradjuri musician Ebony Williams, shares her experience around cultural protocols when engaging with Indigenous people in the arts.

The interview was promoted by the decision of a Kimberley community, in the state's north, to ban welcome to country ceremonies or communicate with Rio Tinto, until they charged their practices to better in protect Aboriginal cultural heritage.
