Today's case explores a topic that is unfamiliar to us in the West and that is arranged marriage. An arranged marriage is one where the initiative to unite does not come from the bride and groom, but from their parents. Historically, it was common for kings to marry their sons to the daughters of neighboring nobles or even enemies to forge alliances between kingdoms. Although, many view arranged marriages as a relic of the past, it still persists to this day in some societies, particularly in India and it was there that in 2011 young Bimal and Shriya entered into such a union which eventually led to a court case.
