An 11-year-old boy in Illinois runs from his home wearing only his underwear and covered in bruises, leading police to charge his mother and her boyfriend in what prosecutors describe as years of abuse.

An Alabama man who never killed anyone but spent more than three decades on death row for murder will now spend the rest of his life in prison after the governor commutes his sentence just two days before his scheduled execution by nitrogen hypoxia.
