Continental Drift #761 - 3 May 2026 - Fusions and Sufi Devotional

View descriptionShare

Turkish meets flamenco, the Persian lute and Farsi singers in jazz, Tibetan spiritualism in Australia, modern Greek folk, Indian classical fusions, and great voices from Pakistan are among the top selections this week. I'll compare recordings by two Pakistani Sufi devotional singers; the fairly recent 'lost' album recorded by the great Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in 1990, and the now unique vocal technique of Ustad Saami.  Later, the astonishing fusion band Shakti led by John McLaughlin.
