More and more artists are taking archival recordings and wrapping them with new music and sounds, mostly using digital technology to combine it all. Usually two main strategies are used; either grab short samples or excerpts and repeat them as both rhythmic and melodic elements, or show great respect for the original by including longish sections, layering and cloaking the source material with new performances.   Also, reviving First Nations music in Canada.
