The Prime Minister has announced a new position of National Commissioner for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people to be created this year.

The commissioner is to be tasked with the safety and welfare of Indigenous children in out of home care.  This includes not only protection of young people’s rights and well-being but, the prime minister says, “calling on their strengths, sense of hope and ideas for change”.
