The love for chess is strong in Byron Bay, where Peter Hanna sets up an oversized chess set and surrounding regular-sized chess tables overlooking Main Beach, weather permitting.
Mr Hanna has been trying to have a permanent, sheltered chess area happening for twenty years and finally has the support of the Byron Shire Council, thanks to outgoing Independent Councillor Cate Coorey moving for it in the last ordinary meeting for the year before elections in September.
