CN 08-11-24 Vigil for killed journalists; Anti-native forest logging rallies; NSW Drugs Summit and the call for a drugs court in Lismore

View descriptionShare

Today we hear some of the calls made at this week’s NSW government drugs summit forum in Lismore, including one for a drugs court in Lismore from former magistrate and Dean of Law at Southern Cross University David Heilpern who join us in the newsroom halfway through the show.

David Heilpern was also at Sunday’s anti-native forest logging rally in Mullumbimby, part of a host of rallies around the country last weekend, and we hear part of his the speech he gave as well as from Greens Member of the Legislative Council Sue Higginson.

From our colleagues at The Wire we hear recommendations for students in the recent report on the COVID-19 response and cross to Tasmania, where police have arrested an eighty-two-year-old First Nations elder who was protesting against logging.

We also take you to Brisbane, where the Media Arts and Entertainment Alliance held a vigil last weekend to commemorate International Day for an End to Immunity from Crimes Against Journalists.
