The campaign to free Julian Assange had been expected to climax this month with the visit of President Jo Biden to Australia to address federal parliament in Canberra and attend the Quadritateral Security Dialogue summit, known as the QUAD, in Sydney. 



Pro-Assange protests were organised in both Sydney and Canberra where pressure on President Biden had come from Prime Minister Albanese, opposition Leader Peter Dutton and many other parliamentarians calling for an end to the persecution of Mr Assange.



Many have been calling for the US to drop the charges and some optimists had even hoped Mr Biden would use the Quad meeting to free Mr Assange.



But the planned was cancelled, quashing such hopes.



The scheduled protests went ahead, as Dr John Jiggens reports.
